Pacers vs. Knicks Links: Game 1 defense dialed in for Pacers

USA TODAY Sports

Pacers Game 1 performance has Knicks searching for answers heading into Game 2.

The Indiana Pacers stout performance and win over the New York Knicks on Sunday quickly changed the narrative surrounding their Eastern Conference Semifinal series. Better to lean on defensive toughness than prolific scoring threats in the playoffs.

With the Knicks involved, the New York media is jumping all over the problems facing the Knicks in the second round of the playoffs after their strong finish to the regular season. I've even seen some mention that Amare Stoudemire's possible return in Game 3 could be a difference. Didn't the Knicks play better after Stoudemire went down with a knee injury in mid-March?

J.R. Smith is taking a lot of heat for his poor shooting performance. Hard to believe D.J. Augustin essentially matched Smith's impact no the game, although Augustin was far more efficient making five of six shots. Also the Pacers had an advantage with the starting backcourts. George Hill and Lance Stephenson combined for 25 points, 20 rebounds and nine assists to get the better of Raymond Felton and Pablo Prigioni who combined for 18 points, two rebounds and nine assists.

All kinds of great links today with the New York Post winning the tabloid headline battle with this beaut: Stinko de Melo
