The New York Knicks moved back into second place in the Eastern Conference standings after beating the short-handed Miami Heat on Tuesday night. The Knicks and Pacers have combined to win their last 14 games while taking turns residing in second place.
Over the past week or so, when the Pacers won they took the lead by a half game, then the Knicks would win to take a percentage points lead. That back-and-forth will finally change tonight when the Knicks play the Atlanta Hawks which will give them either a full half game lead or half game deficit. The Knicks have nine games remaining while the Pacers have just seven, so the Knicks current one game lead in the loss column remains a bonus for New York.
The Hawks should be motivated after winning their last two games and remaining just one game behind Brooklyn for home court advantage in the playoffs. But the Knicks, like the Pacers, are playing at a different level right now while both teams wait for the other to falter.
