Pacers vs. Cavaliers: David West may sit with lower back injury

Howard Smith-USA TODAY Sports

According to the Pacers, West will be a game time decision tonight in Cleveland after hurting his back in Philadelphia.

The not-so-good times keep on rolling for the Indiana Pacers as they prepare to play the Cleveland Cavaliers on Monday night.

Forward David West may not play and is officially a game time decision with a lower back sprain, according to the team.

Wonderful. Just when it appears the Pacers have a good chance to begin building a little positive momentum, we get this news. Seems to me a lower back sprain sounds worse than a lower back strain, but if West is not already ruled out for the game tonight or at least questionable, then the severity must not be too bad.

West missed a game in mid-February against Charlotte with an eye injury which the Pacers easily won. Tyler Hansbrough started in place of West and took advantage to score 19 points and grab 10 rebounds. I assume Hansbrough would start against the Cavs if West can't go and for whatever reason, Hans seems to play better as a starter.

Obviously, the Pacers have to error on the side of caution with a long-term view regarding West. BUT...it sure would be nice to have him available for the game tonight.
