Pacers Links: Pacers off to Toronto after Clippers beat them to the punch

USA TODAY Sports

Pacers late comeback stifled by Chris Paul simply refusing to lose.

The Indiana Pacers found out what their opponents have had to endure much of the season. The Pacers have thrived this season with a strong, physical defense on the perimeter and around the rim that attacks instead of reacts.

The Los Angeles Clippers came into Bankers Life Fieldhouse and played the role of the aggressor, beating the Pacers to the first punch and driving the home team crazy with their physical defense.

The Pacers 20 turnovers and Clippers 50 points in the paint are the main ingredients in the Pacers losing recipe last night which show the Pacers weren't on top of their game.

"We got to play good basketball to beat a team like that and we didn't play good basketball," Frank Vogel said after the game.

Despite their poor play, the Pacers did show some guts, responding to Vogel's plea for one last push after falling behind by 17 points with under six minutes to play. But after cutting the lead to four with plenty of time to play, Chris Paul simply wouldn't give in and give the Pacers the additional stop they needed. Instead Paul's eight points in the final two minutes eventually took the life out of the Pacers and sealed the win for the Clippers.

That's a good win for the Clippers who looked like a far more mature team than they were last year when they rolled into town.

"I watch the Pacers play a lot," Paul said after the game. "D West is like my brother. And they have been beating teams real bad lately, especially here at home so I think this is a good win for us."

So the Pacers will welcome Roy Hibbert back to the lineup on Friday night in Toronto when they try to avoid any further slippage while dealing with their season-long nemesis in the Raptors.
