Pacers Links: Pacers beat Hawks, now look for three wins in three days at 76ers

USA TODAY Sports

Pacers enjoy a rare win over Atlanta for their fourth consecutive win and 15th in a row at home.

Forget the fact that the NBA forced the Indiana Pacers to play back-to-back-back games this week. Now the Pacers have a chance to WIN back-to-back-to-back games.

The Pacers have to hit the road to complete the feat when they visit the Philadelphia 76ers on Wednesday night. The game defines "schedule loss" for the Pacers who already struggle on the road but also have to play their third game in three nights. No doubt, Frank Vogel has never considered the term "schedule loss" and will maintain expectations that his team execute well enough to win.

On the way home last night, I heard Mark Montieth provide a little inspiration while talking with Eddie White on Pacers OT (after every game on 1070 The Fan, btw). Monthieth, a vaunted Pacers historian, mentioned that in the Pacers' first ABA season in 1967, the team played a back-to-back-to-back set and won all three. Not only that, all three wins were on the road under far less favorable travel conditions.

Here is the list of ABA results, which shows that the Pacers beat Kentucky (in Louisville), 106-99 on Oct. 20, then New Orleans, 114-111 on Oct. 21 and finally Dallas, 121-101 on Oct. 22. Nice trip, no? We'll see if the current Pacers can gut out a similar triple against the Sixers who will be down Thaddeus Young.
