It didn't take long for Solomon Hill to assert himself with the Fort Wayne Mad Ants.
The Pacers rookie made his first appearance for the team's D-League affiliate in Fort Wayne on Monday night, starting at forward and playing over 33 minutes in the Mad Ants' 103-102 loss to the Sioux City Skyforce. Hill finished the game with 19 (6-12 FG, 2-5 3PT) points, five assists, three rebounds and two steals while also turning the ball over six times. But he wasted little time showing he was playing in Fort Wayne to go to work.
After Fort Wayne secured the opening tip, the ball made it to Hill's hands on the right wing where he drove to the middle for a pull up jumper to start the scoring. On the next possession, Hill ended up with the ball up top, took a hard dribble to his right drawing defensive attention and then snapped a one-handed pass diagonally through the lane to Tony Mitchell for a dunk.
The most valuable part of the night came at closing time when Hill was on the floor for a tight finish. He tied the game on a transition dunk with three minutes left, but those would be Hill's last points, as Sioux City took back the lead and never let it up down the stretch. Hill was on the floor for Fort Wayne's last best chance to tie the game, trailing by three with 12 seconds to play, but Sioux City forced a turnover and put away the win.
Pacers' training-camp invitee, Ron Howard played like the Fonz, leading the Mad Ants with 23 points.
Also, you can watch the game in its entirety here, or at least pick your spots. I'd suggest watching the first couple of minutes of regulation to see the first two possession which will leave you smiling over Hill getting a little burn in the D-League.
