According to reports, the Indiana Pacers have agreed to sign the Crash Davis of the D-League, Blake Ahearn to a partially guaranteed contract to come to training camp with a chance to make the roster. Thanks to pacerfan20o8 and Keauhou for sharing the news and info on Ahearn in the FanPosts.
Ahearn, 28 is an undersized shooting guard who can flat out shoot it and also considered playing in China before agreeing to try out with the Pacers. Over the pas five season, Ahearn has played in a total of 19 NBA games in three stints with Miami, San Antonio and Utah.
Ahearn's name is often praised for his D-League exploits as a player who could help an NBA team in the right situation. Hard to say is that situation will be with the Pacers, but hey, he can't fare any worse than Sarunas Jasikevicius. Scoring in the D-League hasn't been a problem for Ahearn who holds the dubious honor of being the D's all-time leading scorer.
Last season in 37 games with the Reno Big Horns, Ahearn averaged 23.8 points and 5.1 assists, while shooting 40.5% from 3-point land and 96.2% from the free throw line. Yep, dude can shoot it.
