Read a tweet from Mike Wells, and he replied to a post from a fan that if the Pacers sign Kaman and Mayo that he believes that will be an upgrade over just having Hibbert.
What do you all think? Personally, I was a bit crestfallen when I heard of the offer Hibbert received from Portland...on the one hand I absolutely love Roy and the type of person he is and the energy/enthusiasm he has brought to the franchise...on the other hand I in no way think he is worth a 14 million cap number.
If this off-season has done anything, it has reaffirmed that stars don't migrate towards the Indy's, Cleveland's, Milwaukee's, Utah's of the world on their own free will. As a team, it appears we will need to try and bump the system with what has been working the best way we can...building of a team. This is going to be difficult to get past the star-studded teams in front of us...but we don't have much of a choice.
Build for depth and hope that we can improve on the progress made last year. Go forward with what is presently constructed, no strangle-hold cap killing contracts, and compete. In a year trade DG for prospects/picks and see what can be done. Such is life of small-market team in a big-market league...there is only so much we can do, and as is I feel the team is doing the best that we can and being competitive in the process.
IMO, we let Roy walk...sign Kaman, Mayo, and another big back-up type and go forward from there. I think that team will win between 46 and 52 ball games next year...compete in the playoffs...and look at building for the future.
