I seriously doubt the Pacers are going to resign Roy. Call it a gut level feeling. I love Roy! Not a lot was expected from him when he was drafted. His work ethic and commitment to getting better allowed him to rise to an all star game appearance. His work in the community was a breath of fresh air right when the Pacers needed it. The problem is Roy is not a max money player. Smits made at least one all star game and we never paid him max money. He wasn't the shot blocker Roy is, but he was a lot better on the block in both scoring and getting position, and his jumpshot was better. Neither of those two were or are great rebounders for their size. And personally, I don't think Roy has much more of a ceiling due to his limited athleticism.
The Pacers have brought in Kaman and had discussions with him about signing here. I would hope it would be for under 10 million a season. Kaman is solid when healthy, but staying healthy has plagued him in his career lately. We don't have much depth at that position so that scares me. So what do you guys think about Javel Mcgee? He is a restricted free agent, but from reading a little bit of Denvers press it sounds like they will be hesitant to match anything over 7 million annual salary. That should mean an 8, 9, or 10 million a year contract could bring him here. Also, no one has offered him a deal just yet so we could be the first to do so and players appreciate that (ie, Hibbert and Portland). As I discussed with a couple guys on an earlier thread, he's a bit of a knucklehead but his ceiling is VERY high. He is a phenomenal athlete and a shot blocking machine. If you watched the Denver-LA series, he looked like the best big man on the court. Right now he is inconsistent, but if he ever gets consistent he is going to be a total beast!
If we don't resign Roy who would you guys prefer to pick up and why? Kaman, or McGee? My vote is for McGee. That ceiling and faith our locker room could keep him grounded swings it for me.
