Assuming that Orlando Johnson sticks with the team after training camp, the roster would stand at 13. Since we kept 15 players under contract for most of 2012, it would leave the Pacers room to add another 1 or 2 players for next year. Since (in my opinion) I expect OJ & Pendergraph to be firmly placed at the end of the Pacers bench, it opens up the opportunity to add players who, although they may not be sexy names, could come in a give you solid NBA minutes when called on.
So my question is, what type of role players do you think we need to fill out the roster (ie. A wing defender, a shooter, or another rebounder) and who do think we can get to fill that role?
It’s entirely possible to bring back one of our existing FA’s: Amundson, Barbosa or Fez, but I also know there are a lot of serviceable players still out there. Don’t kill me on the list, but some of the first serviceable players that come to mind are: Matt Barnes, Jonny Fynn, CJ Miles, Jodie Meeks, Ronnie Brewer, and Mickael Pietrus. Of course I’d add Landry and Lee to the list but I’m not sure we are ready to spend that kind of money to complete the roster. Heck, what are your feelings about bringing back Jermaine O’Neal for a year and let him retire a Pacer? Again, none are superstars and all will have their faults, but they can all come in, play solid NBA minutes and be good role players from the bench.
