With the Augustin signing...is the Pacers bench better than last year's?

We all know what the starting 5 is going to look like now that Hibbert and Hill are back, but with all the movement on the back end, has the Front Office solidified the back end or made it worse?

So far, as it stands, the lineup looks like this:

Starting line:

PG - Hill

SG - George

SF - Granger

PF - West

C - Hibbert

Bench:

PG - Augustin

SG - ??? Lance ???

SF - Green

PF - Mahinmi/Plumlee

C - Mahinmi/Plumlee

Last year's bench was:

PG - Collison

SG - Barbosa

SF - Jones

PF - Hansbrough

C - Foster/Amundson

I'd say they definitely upgraded the backup front court, despite the baffling Plumlee pick and the odd trade for Mahinmi. It's tougher, bigger, more athletic, and more defensive oriented.

Barbosa seemed like a big pickup at the deadline last season, but didn't end up living up to the hype. And SG is the last piece to fall in place for Indy. Hopefully Courtney Lee or OJ Mayo still can be had with a Hansbrough chip to dangle but they might have to settle for Stephenson at the backup 2 or slide Augustin or Hill into the off-guard. I will miss Dhantay Jones but it'll be nice to never see him pull up for a jumper as quickly as possible (like he was inclined to do often). Green is a D-League prodigy so he definitely has a solid work ethic but outside of his athleticism, there remains a lot to be seen about his game. Augustin seems to be an upgrade over Collison mainly because he is a better passer, he's stonger and bigger, and is willing to play the 6th man spot which Collison apparently wasn't pleased with.

I'm optimistic now that Augustin is on board. Hopefully the backend can play a bit better than the bench did in the postseason last year.
