The NBA is trying something new this year with the NBA Social Media Awards and Indiana Pacers guard Paul George has been nominated for the "Social Slam Award" for his flying windmill dunk against the New Orleans Hornets. NBA TV will dedicate a show to revealing all of the Social Media Awards which essentially capture all of the great moments and highlights from the past season.
PG has some stiff competition with Blake Griffin and LeBron James among the other Social Slam nominees so voter early and often. Also, former Pacer Jalen Rose is among the nominees for a "Triple Threat" award for former players who are active in traditional and social media. Here are more details.
Vote for Paul and Jalen at NBA.com/sma starting June 6. Voting for The Social Slam Award will remain open during the show with the winner announced live. Winners will be announced during the June 20 broadcast on NBA TV.
Three-time NBA World Champion Rick Fox (@RickaFox) will host the show, joined by TNT and NBA TV analyst and social media guru Shaquille O'Neal (@SHAQ) and SLAM magazine's social maven Lang Whitaker (@Langwhitaker), along with contributions from The Basketball Jones' JE Skeets (@jeskeets) and Tas Melas (@tasmelas). The show will recognize some of the best moments from the 2011-12 NBA regular season which resonated with fans and generated the most social engagement.
