Whether or not you agree with the picks the Pacers made last night, one thing is obvious; these picks were picked special to fill some glaring holes. We got a backup center for Big Roy, and didnt have to go out and use a bunch of money to sign one. We also (in my opinion) got our replacement for Leandro Barbosa (OJ). So lets take a quick look at how our team looks right now. I am leaving out AJ Price and Barbosa under the thinking that we wont re-sign them: PG: Hill, DC, Stephenson SG: PG, OJ, Dahntay Jones SF: Danny PF: West, Hansbrough, Pendergraph C: Roy, Plumlee, Fesenko/Amundson We still have 2 roster spots left. Our backcourt seems filled out. Our bigs seem filled out. There is still 1 glaring need: a backup to Danny. We still need a backup SF. Dahntay is too small, and although PG usually plays that position when Danny leaves, that means him and Danny have to be spread out, which i dont like. Before the draft we had a need at SG, but it seems OJ will be the backup there. Since we didnt draft a point, it seems reasonable that DC will be back. As previously mentioned, we got our backup center. Now the SF spot. Maybe Jeff Green? Him and Roy played together at Georgetown, he would get solid minutes, this is a legitimate playoff team and maybe a championship contender if we add a player of his caliber to our bench. Why not? It would be somewhat cheap considering his heart problems. But he has been cleared to play, and we wouldnt be playing him too much. Regardless, i think realisticly this roster is almost filled out (assuming we re-sign Roy, Hill and Fesenko/Amundson). We just need a backup SF, and then the other roster spot can be filled however the team deems necessary. We dont need Brandon Roy anymore, we dont have to worry about Oden maybe wanting to come here. This draft filled some needs and should allow us to come back with a similar squad but improved in the areas where we needed to improve. Thoughts?
