At 11:00 this morning Larry Bird finally uttered words that many of us didn't want to hear, that he was stepping down. If you watched the press conference, it was of new beginnings. We learned that Walsh and Pritchard will be working together, but it will be Walsh who has the final say. I found that interesting, as it become clear that Walsh's role will be larger than first expected. I've always wanted to say this, a little more after the jump. Haha ok.
Which brings me to my next point. I am happy to say that Larry Bird will be doing the draft! I'm not sure about the lot of you, but I for am happy for this news. To further add to the excitement, he mentioned a woman who he talks to about the draft. I think her name was Susan something. Anyways, every year he walks into the draft room, and she usually is the one that has a deal for him. She told him about David West, George Hill, and Paul George. Larry then goes on to say that he thinks she has something good planned this year, so he wants to do the draft. Now, I know Larry is hush hush normally about his moves, but did he tip his cap? I know it's not detailed, but is that an indication that something major is on the horizon? With the draft a mere day away, this press conference just brought a new level of excitement out of me. I can't wait for tomorrow night.
So what are we doing tomorrow night? Unfortunately, all Larry said was, we're either picking or we're trading. I'm not exactly sure what I was expecting, but still. I guess deep down I was hoping for an accidental slip of the tongue. Oh well, I guess I'll have to wait like the rest of you.
One thing can be rest assure, Larry is stepping down due to HEALTH reasons. He did mention that Simon is willing to spend, and that re-signing Hibbert and Hill are top priorities, and that they are both staying. That will remain to be seen, as all front office people are going to say that. I at least felt relieved knowing that they are going to look to sign both. Happy Draft Eve!
