Wells: Possibility Donnie Walsh Will Return To Pacers

Stay connected for news and updates

Indiana Pacers beat writer Mike Wells reports that former Pacers president Donnie Walsh could return to the front office in some capacity and it sounds like he already has become a presence down at Bankers Life Fieldhouse even though nothing is official.

There's a possibility that former CEO Donnie Walsh will return to the franchise in some capacity, multiple sources told The Star.

It's uncertain what role Walsh will play with the franchise.

Wells went on to say that Walsh has been present for some of the predraft workouts which isn't completely out of the ordinary since he would just have to drive downtown from his north-side home. But, making that drive indicates Walsh still has his mind in the game.

The Pacers may want to keep that experienced basketball mind on retainer in some capacity but what advisory role Walsh would take depends on whether or not Larry Bird will return in his role as team president. With Kevin Pritchard in line to take over GM duties Walsh could step in for a year or two if Bird steps away.
