After all these years of just being comfortable with them sucking and feeling like I knew what they needed to do to get back on that long road back to respectability (suck a little more so they could draft high), now they are not only proving me wrong, but getting my hopes up.
Then in game one they break my heart. Then in game two they look like a solid, but somewhat incomplete team. Now, in game three, they got me back to thinking they can go as far as their collective effort/dependability can take them.
If we play like we did tonight in game 3 (especially on the road) we can beat any team. I mean, even with our level of play tonight we might not beat some of the truly elite teams in a best of 7 (Miami is the only one left in tact in the east). But, we'd take 'em to 6 or 7 games with tonight's effort. Now, we mix in some games like game one and game two and we're swept.
Truth be told, we are not out of the woods right now. But, I think with a 2-1 series lead and a clearly deeper, more talented team, we can make it out of this series alive even when the Magic put together 4 quarters of good defense and hot shooting (which I think they are still capable of). I don't want to act like I'm looking ahead, but that bitch slap back to reality we got in game one probably couldn't have came at a better time for the Pacers and might be the difference between an embarrassing first round upset and a respectable 2nd round showing.
But, the title of this post is misleading. I should have said, if they come out and lay an egg on Saturday, and then don't hold a comfortable lead at half-time in game 5....I will look back and be very upset at our boys for all the hope they gave me tonight.
GO PACERS!!! Get it Saturday and let's close this one out at home next week. Save me the grief.
