First of all how anyone can think Darren Collison will disrupt the Pacers locker room is just being ridiculous (where are the facts on that one, what a totally insane comment). That sound like something a drama queen would come up with. There is no evident of DC starting any trouble with anyone, so why would anyone believe that crap. He has shown to be a Professional well mannered guy with his actions since turning pro. Now with that being said I am sure it was a huge blow to him that Coach Vogal decided to go with Hill. We all have an ego folks and anyone who makes their way to the NBA has to have a gigantic one, so yes he was hurt as all of us would have been.
Here’s how I see it. I am betting that Darren will soon realize that this could be an enormous benefit for a couple of reasons. First he will not have a play outside of his game and worry about getting everybody besides himself involved in the offensive. Remember as a starter he had Granger, Roy, West and PG on the floor with him. Now he can think about his own production more. Case in point watch Hans, nine out of ten times Hans gets the ball he’s going to shoot (someway somehow he will get his shot off). There’s a big different coming off the bench because a bench player wants and needs to make things happen quickly in part because they have less time on the court and secondly because the coaching staff and the team needs energy and reliably from them while the starters rest. Darren will quick realize he can take full advantage of this and be more in attack mode when on the floor. His speed can be utilized more effectively in this new roll. I am not saying he need to shoot all the time but he will be able to push the offensive more and playing with guys like Barbosa, D. Jones, Amusdson & Hans , will not hurt either. I believe it’s going to be fun to watch. Oh there is one other issue I want to address about Collison it’s the thought that his defense is so bad. I am not buying it, I know he’s not a great defender but he has certainly gotten better since last year. He actually isn’t a bad on ball defender and has gotten some very nice steals for us but he does have problems with big guards.
I to wish Darren had a few more game to adjust but the fact is he doesn’t. I am sure he will figure it out, and remember he is human but he is also a pro. Like all player he has good and bad qualities but I believe this new roll will help him with the good. Lastly DC has been nothing but great off the court and in the locker room with his teammates I have never heard a bad thing on him and that’s good enough for me, so let’s not make a problem out of nothing, also I have not heard that he has complained about the loss of his starting job just that he was disappointed. So I say let see if he comes through I for one think he will but I have to admit I love an underdog and I always will. THAT’S WHY I LOVE MY PACERS. GO PACERS!!
