Now that Vogel has announced the starting point guard spot is George Hill's, what are your thoughts on how this impacts THIS Pacer team moving forward THIS season. I wanted to get a Fan Post up about the effects of this season and generate some conversation about how we view this team. I know it is tempting to look forward (I've done it plenty of times myself), but how about looking at this version of the team and how it shapes up moving forward in this season and post season.
The Pacers have played very well with Hill at the point, and that goes without saying. The cynic may say the current 7 game winning streak has some "Fools Gold" ambivalence to it seeing as we haven't beaten an upper echelon team. An optimist may say while not necessarily upper echelon, the Pacers have beat the Bucks twice and Philly once (twice after tonight?) and those are two teams that are fighting with everything they have to make the playoffs, so those should prove to be quality wins.
When I look at what like most about George Hill running the point it comes to his lack of turnovers. With a 6:1 Ast:TO ratio, I find this most encouraging. That combined with Hill's body type will prove to be an upgrade over what Collison was able to give us at the point, a couple inches nearly 20 pounds, and just another form of toughness to match-up physically with some more physically imposing backcourts. I do hope that Collison can come back healthy, as he would be a major upgrade over Price as our 2nd team point guard and maybe regain some sense of chemistry with Hansbrough they seemed to have at times last year. If nothing else Collison will be able to provide another speedy option off the bench to go along with the Blur Barbosa.
Overall, I feel that having Hill in the starting line up is going to be a positive for our team moving forward this season. I think this is going to be an exciting team to watch come the playoffs and I am ready to enjoy the ride! What do you all think? Positives, negatives, likes, dislikes of the transition?
