Forget the excuse, forget all the hypotheticals why the fans have not come back. The same crap gets put up time and time again of how the economy is bad, how Indianapolis is not a big metropolis at any level. The fact is the Pacers are the second worst in attendance marginally ahead of the Nets who already have announced to all their NJ fanbase that they don't give a rats a$$ about them and are moving to a larger city in Brooklyn. Basically if the Nets weren't moving their team and basically flipping their middle finger to their fans, the 40-22 Pacers would have the worst attendance in the league. Great job Indy, great job of making history, as this is probably the worst attendance in contemperary history for a team with over .640 winning percentage.
So, in order for the city to truely embrace the Pacers, the Pacers need to go out there and win a playoff series or the city won't support them. Well if people really buy into that notion, then they are not true fans at all. So, unless they go deep into the playoffs, this season has been basically a complete wasted season? And what if this team do go deep in the playoffs, then people suddenly all jump back into the fray? well, nice to show that our fanbase is composed mainly of bandwagon followers and not loyal idehards. There's no guranteeds in life and certainly not in sports, but one thing is for sure, the Pacers had a great year regardless of whatever happens in the playoffs and its been a pleasure watching this team, and it has been clearly noted how nobody in the local community gives a rats ass about the team. Can someone tell me what is not intresting about this team? please just name me one!And don't even mention the fact that this team doesn't have someone like Reggie Miller who was all flair and live for the dramatic.
Seriously, the Bobcats are drawing roughly a thousand more butts in the seat than the Pacers on a given night. And is there any city in a worst financial down turn in Detroit, and somehow, they're still able to draw fans to come see a god awful team. Not enough attention has been drawn to this complete abandonment of a awesome team who deserve all the support in the world. Sure the local media tries to urge people to come out and support the team, but it has done absolutely nothing. Some have sugguested that the pacers' media and advertisement personnels are to blame. Forget all of it, the fact that so many people still think that this team is full of thugs is amazingly ignorant. The Pacers have really cheap tickets all over the arena on most given nights, there is no excuse at all, there's only indictments of the local support for this unique team and good group of players.
And Tom, please don't be mad at me, but I think it's time to change the motto for Indycornrorws, cause apparantly, good team basketball doesn't mean that much in Indiana.
