Why all the negativity?

This is my first post so please take it easy on me. I would just like to take some time and vent to all the negative Pacers fans on here because frankly, I’m sick of reading some of this garbage! Why can’t you all look at the positives instead of stating, “well Bird should have done this,” “Vogel needs to take charge of the team and make changes to the starting line-up,” “this team won’t win a championship.” It’s garbage and that’s why you (and me) are commenting on a blog instead of working in the front office. Before I go into detail, bottom line is this…for fans like me, I’ve been patiently waiting for a team EXACTLY like this one - for a long, LONG time. Ever since the brawl, we have been waiting for a team that we can get behind and support and that team is here now. Obviously we are still lacking a true superstar on our team (hopefully that’ll be Paul George) but what do we have now – guys who want to win and win the right way! Right now we don’t have a true Wade, James, Bryant, but that’s another beauty of this team – we have six guys (starting five + George Hill) who can put up 20+ on any given night, that’s what makes us dangerous. We have a have a team that is filled with good character guys that aren’t making the news for shootings at a night club, getting arrested, distractions inside the locker room, and most importantly WINNING. So here are my complaints because after reading a lot of comments/posts, I feel like we are the most “bandwagon fans” there are:

Larry Bird – Why all the hate? Has the guys make some bad moves, sure…but that’s the growing pains we’ve lived with. Lately, he has made some GREAT moves that has in the position we are in now. We are finally under the cap and can/had the ability to make some moves. I think Larry has done a great job personally because 1) who really wanted to take this job with how bad of shape this organization was in and 2) he finally got us under the cap so we can make/had made moves to bring in talent, while drafting good, young talent. He’s added talent to this team without giving up valuable draft picks, or strapping us financially. People want to point out Hansbrough but again, he addressed a NEED at the 4 by drafting the best 4 available…who else should Larry have taken?? Lay off the guy because he’s done some great things for this organization to get us where we are today.

Our big men (West & Hibbert) – Again, I can’t understand all the hate for both. First with David, we got a steal of a deal on him. He brings that leadership (esp. now that Foster is retiring) and tough man tenacity that we were lacking. Is putting put the numbers he did in NO before the injury, no…but you have to remember, that’s the great thing about this team - we don’t rely on just ONE guy. PF was a need this offseason and Bird filled that void with the best option out there (IMO), OR we could have paid a max deal for Nene and you all would have been pissed because he’s out for the year. Again, adding talent without strapping us financially. Hibbert…is he a top 5 center in the league, No. However, he is a legitimate starter in this league because he is a GOOD center with size that everyone would love to have on their squad. He can run the floor, is a great passer, has developed some nice post moves. Sure there are things that we would all love to see in him (ala a “killer instinct”) but he isn’t someone who we should all think we don’t resign him or be afraid of giving him any money because a big man like Roy is rare in this league. He still brings alot to the table. Look how much he’s grown over these last 3 years. I would take a Roy over any big man in this league that last name isn’t Howard, Gasol, Bynum, Stoudamire, Duncan, and maybe Chandler - I'm talking true centers. People say Jason Thompson, J.J. Hickson, etc. give me a break. We are one of the best defensive and rebounding teams in the league, and it all starts with all of our bigs down low.

I have more to say, but I know this post is getting long. Let me just wrap it up by saying stop with so much negativity towards this team. This team is the team we have all been wanting for years. There not a true championship caliber team (yet), but what did you expect from a young team, new coach, and a team that finished under .500 the previous season – all of a sudden, snap of a finger, we are winning a ring? We are getting closer to being a championship caliber team, this offseason will be important, but again we are WINNING. According to ESPN’s John Hollinger, most of the season he has ranked us in the top 10 in the NBA (currently 7th), and yet we are going to sit back a cry about how bad this team is, we should have done more, we don't have what it takes, etc. I just don’t get it…I personally love this team and think we will make a big splash in the playoffs. Let's wait until the playoffs to really evaluate them. Again, I just don't get why all the negativity towards this team...maybe it’s because we’ve been spoiled by the Colts for so many years, I don’t know. All I know is this is a good team that we should be very pleased with, and pleased with the jobs both Frank and Larry have done! GO PACERS!
