Should the Pacers Bring in Someone?

I usually start off by saying "let's trade DG", but today, I'll be a little more subtle than that. The Pacers are playing pretty good basketball right now "when" they play as a team. With a sell out crowd the other night against Orlando, the old selfish Pacers showed up, and of course 'lost'. Everyone must've decided on that particular day, that they wanted to be a superstar. And, of course we have none. DC had zero assists!!! That's our point guard, the one who is suppose to be running the team, the extension of the coach on the floor. If your point guard isnt' handing out assists, one of two things are probably happening. 1. Your team is gonna be in a mess, and /or 2. he's tryng to be the superstar that night, and DC just isn't! So now, for the trading of DG. Yes, he's picked up his game for the most part, and playing pretty good, but still taking alot of shots, missing most, in order to get his 20 pts. per game. What if? We trade DG for a great shooting guard, move Paul George up to Danny's spot, and then we get good production from both areas. Paul George is not a guard. You can call him that till you're blue in the face, but he's just not! Move him to the SF spot, and have a true point guard feeding him the ball, and have a good shooting guard out there, and maybe we'll look even better. Coach should've had a good talking to Collison after that game! Actually, he should have told him at halftime to 'run the offense, get the ball to the other players, and then let the cards fall where they may. As bad as we played, we still just barely got beat. Maybe 2 or 3 "assists" by Collison would've made a difference. No one will know for sure, but lets not have another repeat where the point guard gets no assists, please.

He’ll be cheap and he looks legit

The hell is Jeremy Lin????

Hell Yes!!!! Ive said it a couple hundred times from game 6 till now. At first many taunted me like I didnt know the game. Well guess what? Now more and more and more cornrow’ers are seeing what I have been seeing. I dont mean bring in a back up shooting guard, we have a plathora of them. We NEED a legit small forward to back up Granger/Paul…Maybe 10 mins here and there, so that way Danny And Paul are fresh somewhat in crunch time and not gassed like they will eventually get over the next 10-12 games. 2nd, How bout Lou? Yeah he has been the nut atheletic back up that resembles Tyler and I am quite impressed with him, but I like to see another big enforcer type of guy that will redirect lay ups, block shots, foul, rebound and take charges. I came up DJ Mbenga and a few others that I cant name now. But we’re there, for the 1st time in several yrs, team HATE to see us coming b/c they know its gonna be a smash mouth game. At this point I LOVE Foster and have defended him and will continue to defend him BUT he’s not going to play but maybe a few more games for us. So the need of a 6-10+ guy with some mass to him should benefit us. I said some about Kerelenko last night but he is stuck on his stupid russian team for whenever as it seems. Be nice if someone like a Tay Prince type of player can get for cheap for the remainder of the yr. TRADE Granger?? I dont know about that b/c he’s showing some real game lately. Im sure ole Larry has a few ideas up his sleeve to accomadate this exciting team. Just cant wait much longer. And what the hell Darren? ZERO assists, guys I didnt know that, no wonder a buddy of mine from NY who was at SAT’s game said our Point Guard suck bad. I get it now.

jeremy lin

jeremy started todays game against utah. he played great except the 8t.o. but without melo and amare… they won the game.

Lin win?

Funny, cause Lin’s paycheck is probably drawn from the Knicks’ tip jar unlike the rich paychecks Melo and Amare receive weekly for their “services”. Ha.

This thread is dumb

And Jeremy Lin is the only viable PG on the Knicks, and he’s cheap and hot right now. I doubt they trade him. Besides which, he’s had two good games in his entire life.

The reason the thread is dumb, though, is that you aren’t making any points. It’s like you just watched the game, got pissed and wrote this. When I read the headline I thought you were going to suggest some realistic options of players we could sign to make the team better, then we could all discuss how much those guys would help us, and how likely it is they’d sign here. Instead we get this crazy reactionary nonsense. Calm down. We’re 16-7. We have tons of cap space. We had a bad game following a tough road game with probably minimal practice. It’ll happen again.

Damn RV

Dont give up posting dude. Some guys on here like to Intimidate any posters that arent as AWESOME as they’re selves…I’ve seen a few guys take some cheap personal shots at ya. While I thought this was going to be a suggestion post and it turned out not, I didnt roll my eyes and call you out. Its for fun and entertainment and kills downtime…so post away bro! Just don’t come in here and request we trade the team away. Were a good team with a couple missing parts.

Thanks, but you just can't win...

I have posted ideas for making trades in the past. When I did, I was shot down several times usually by the same one or two guys. So this time, i decided to try a different approach. Evidently, you can’t please some people “anytime”. My whole point was to see if others would think we needed some changes, and ‘WHO" they would suggest could help our team. And to all those replys about us being 16-7, i know. IT’S GREAT. But it won’t be long before some of these teams start figuring out they can play “smashmouth” basketball against us, and then we’ll see just how tough our players are. All I was saying is “we need one more scorer” to help on the nites like we had against Orlando. We only lost by a couple points, so we are almost there. JUST ONE MORE PLAYER please.

by RVANDY9 on Feb 7, 2012 7:06 AM EST up reply actions

You are stating the obvious

Everyone knows that we need a scorer off the bench. Hans hasnt developed the way we wanted him to. It’s just that there are many teams with the same problem as us so pickings are slim.

I have no problem with you making a post suggesting we add someone

You just didn’t. I’ve never called you out for anything, but I’ll happily call you out for complaining over and over and over again without offering any tangible solutions. I’m just as pissed as you are that our team underperformed in front of a sell out crowd on a pseudo national stage (it wasn’t nationally televised, but several Hollywood types were there given that it was the night before the Super Bowl). But if I’m going to complain about it I’m going to

A. Give my team the benefit of the doubt because I love them, I think they’re good, I will root for them regardless and I believe in my heart they are trying hard.

B. Offer up actual solutions.

You spent the whole post complaining. I’m not lording over anyone or claiming I’m “AWESOME.” I’m just saying what’s the point of this? I don’t disagree that this team needs to add some pieces. I like this sort of conversation, and was hoping we could get into it on this thread. But I open it up and it’s just you complaining again and offering none of your ideas to fix the team. You want to trade Danny Granger? Great. I could get behind that if the return was fair. You want to bench Darren Collison? Fine, tell us why. I mean, it’s your time, and your post, but there are a lot of people on here who have good, realistic suggestions for how to improve the team and you could be engaging them in intelligent conversation instead of just offering up a big pile of complaint vomit.

That was nationally televised I think.

Pretty sure that one got picked up by NBAtv. In fact I’m sure of it, b/c that’s why I watched the Toros vs. Energy NBADL game the next day.

It seems you just watched that single game against Orlando without considering the other games this Pacers had the past week. Look at their legs man, there’s just no lift and it is very evident that they are TIRED.

Your rant has nothing to do about the Pacer’s lack of talent or DC’s inability to distribute the ball. He’s giving nice passes but the ball just wont get in and that’s a missed assist.

They have a nice rest so expect them to bounce back against Utah

Every time you post something it’s always the same gloom and doom. . . . Cheer up Bro . . . your a Negative Nancy! Why would we trade our best player, and who would we get if we traded him . . . . I think what you are seeing is everyone is tired of the Granger trades because much like Reggie Miller when he was her 90% of people would rather he stay in Indiana than leave or be traded. That is how Indiana is! If you play your heart out for us we will love you forever. . .In my opinion DG will be a Pacer for life baring any unforeseen (Detroit) incidents in the future.

RVVVVVVVVVVVVVV Here is a tip . . . Free of Charge . . . Next time you have a post:

1. First write it down on a piece of paper.
2. Read it back to yourself once.
3. Eat that piece of paper and forget you ever wrote it!

This will keep you from any further embarrassment . . . Good Luck in your Future Endeavors!

What if we went after Jonny Flynn?

He’s done nothing in the NBA to this point, but he could probably be had for a pretty cheap price. Perhaps, Vogel (shaw?) could get the best out of him. He is better than Price though, well statistically at least.

Apparently, as of yesterday at least, NYK and LA both were interested

Per ESPN via hoopshype.com rumors page. I don’t know how serious the Knicks are now that Lin has “arrived” (I’m joking, but really, an Asian point guard undrafted out of Harvard? How friggin awesome would it be if he were good?). I’ve never liked Flynn when he’s been linked to us before. Basically he’s Darren Collison with worse shot selection. But if he were cheap I’d certainly take a chance on him.

that's an immense insult to DC

and I’m not some big Collison fan. Jonny Flynn is AWFUL.

Well, I really meant statistically

Their games are nothing like. Flynn is stronger, and less likely to ever pass, while Collison is not as good of a penetrator, but still can facilitate an offense (even if it doesn’t show up on the stat sheet). I don’t know if I’m willing to call Flynn “awful” just yet, but he’s certainly had his chances and it might be over for him soon, so at least he’ll be motivated.

Funny...

…I was thinking the other day….I wouldn’t suggest digging him up per say. I’m sure he’s living in an apartment somewhere in So Cal smoking weed and eating cheetos. But, I was thinking I’d probably actually prefer 8-12 minutes of him than Lou if Lou falls back into that terrible stretch he played early in the season….and by early in the season I mean the whole season up until the past few games.

Uh....no. Doesn't ring a bell.

Didn’t really watch much college ball outside of ACC and Big ten in the late 90’s. Didn’t watch much at all.

I remember seeing Harrison in the NIT with Colorado and thinking, “Man, that’s a big, athletic dude…he looks kinda lazy though.”

I figured this would happen...

We are so used to being in full-on offseason mode by this point in time and we can’t help ourselves.

1.) This is a good team that has a couple of key injured pieces. They can win in the playoffs, this should be an exciting season for us. Look at where we were last year. Breathe.

2.) This team is not a lock for title contention. Yes it can be better, lets feel free to discuss the scenarios. The three biggest weaknesses?
2a.) No viable backup center (Foster hurt too much, Admundson is a huge drop off)
2b.) No viable backup SF.
2c.) Very poor Asst/TO ratio over the course of the year.

We can’t necessarily fix all of that this year. We got much better this summer, but its kind of like taking a bath. You have to do it again. Lets remember we are all pulling for the same team.
