What about D Howard to Indy?

I was looking at the trades that ESPN analysts have been putting together for Dwight Howard. The Bulls seems to be a popular flavor of the week. The Nets would supposedly give up Lopez, Marshon Brooks, and 4 1st Rounders. Yes, I said 4. Boston may even be on the list.

The Clippers you say? Would you give up the most exciting player in the league in Blake Griffin for the second most exciting player? No, I didn't think so. The Knicks? Well, they just signed Chandler, and they can't even find a way to get two star players to play together. What makes you think Howard would work there.

So, let's see what are Howard's requests? He wants to be a contender. He wants a team. He wants a quality system. He's a good kid. He likes people. He would fit in with Vogel and the Pacers. I love Hibbert. And he's been playing really well. But, what if we got Howard. Would he do this trade?

Only if we trade for lots of sub-par players and surround him with bloated contracts and Gilbert Arenas.

Meh.

I don’t think Howard much improves the team when you consider what would be left after the trade, even if “just” Hibbert + Granger + pick(s) could get it done. I’d rather have a dominating defensive center with offensive skills, which we already have, then an even-more-dominating defensive center with range that stops at 3’. I love dunks too, and it’s fun to think about, but nah.

Great point about his shooting range

Hibbert has a decent shot. But his defense is lacking, especially against stronger opponents. And now that we see PG able to score at will, do we need Granger as much?

Never happen

but in fantasy land, you give up the farm for someone like Howard.

Lets say Indiana was on a beach and had no state taxes… you essentially give Orlando whatever they want baring something absurd like NJ is doing with 4 first round picks. Yes, that include George.

True

I couldn’t believe what I was reading about the 4 picks. Frankly, I find a lot of the potential trades being thrown around absurd. And I was really excited to try the trade machine and see if I could make-it-work. I hope Bird takes baby steps and improves us with potential rather than big names. Everyone hated Reggie Miller when we drafted him, but they grew to love him, just as I do now. But it took time for some people.

No.

You lose too much in Granger and Hibbert. This team with Howard minus Granger and Hibbert is weaker than it is currently. A big part of our success is that our starting 5 are all guys that have to be guarded. You bring in Howard and you have to start Dahntay Jones, unless you slide around PG and Hill. That still means that you have only Foster and Tyler off the bench, and that’s not as attractive as what we have going on currently.

and you over estimate his… look at the current Orlando Magic… that would give you a glimpse of what’s in store for us if this trade goes through…

This team was built to wear other teams down with our depth.

If we dealt for Howard and give them 2 of our starters and a probable future starter from the draft, not only do we lose depth but we may also lose that chemistry that has allowed us to be successful so far. The team has also thrived this season because there are no off court issues. If we get Howard, there will be that apprehension about him resigning or not. Besides, with Hibbert, there is a stronger possibility of keeping him beyond this season than with Howard.

My thoughts exactly

I say let’s keep pace with Larry’s moves. I support improvement in our current roster but not at the expense of breaking down the core.

Ugh

In NBA 2K12 this off-season I’d trade Granger, Hibbert and a first for Howard (signed for a year at his PO), sign Deron Williams long term and trade Collison, Hansbrough and a future first for Eric Gordon signed at the 5-year max. But then, in NBA 2K12 you can turn injuries off…

In reality I’d say that’s too much, given how hugeified my Paul George mancrush is. Bringing in Howard would probably require also bringing in another star, which would require not having enough money to one day sign PG. Yes, I think about everything in terms of having enough money to sign PG. It is my problem, and I’m dealing with it in my own way.

Wow, that raises a sick question.

Would we trade our starting 5 for Howard, Williams, and a healthy Gordon?

Let's see....

…I can pay my electric bill or I can get a Pacer ticket.

If I don’t pay my electric bill my moms dialsys machine won’t work. But, if I don’t get a ticket to tonight’s game, the Pacers might not be able to resign PG.

“Drink alot of water mom and I’ll bring home some fresh blood from the bank in the morning!!!”

I get your logic. I’m with ya.

What's the probability of signing both Howard and Hibbert in the offseason?

Twin towers, anyone?

We may not have enough money to re-sign Hill in the process and might not be able to get who most bloggers want in Eric Gordon but that twin towers will certainly give us our bright future.

by denggoy7 on Feb 1, 2012 7:54 PM EST reply actions

He's not coming here.

I’m not sure what it is that people don’t get about this. If Dwight wanted to be in a middle market, he’d stay in Orlando. He wants to play in a big market. He wants to be an actor and entertainer. He wants to team up with a star (Rose, DWill etc). We can’t offer him any of that, and thus, he’s not coming.

by SunnyD1988 on Feb 2, 2012 8:35 AM EST reply actions

No

1.) Hibbert is younger
2.) Hibbert can make free throws
3.) Hibberts game is more likely to stick around for the long term, Howard wins with athleticism and that fades over time.
4.) Even at a max deal Hibbert will be cheaper than Howard
5.) Hibbert buys season tix for fans,
6.) Granger is still the core of this team, without him we are no better than the other teams chasing Howard.

We have a top-notch starting five, let’s leave it the way it is, please don’t ruin what we got for a bunch of spoiled superstars
