Pacers Links: David West maintains role as veteran leader for Pacers

Mark Zerof-US PRESSWIRE - Presswire

Veteran forward keeps confident young players in check.

Indiana Pacers forward David West maintains a low profile among his young and energetic teammates. But since he joined the team last season, his status as a veteran voice those young bucks could lean on has been an invaluable addition to the team dynamic.

Mike Wells reports that West is ready to start the upcoming NBA season after a healthy offseason spent preparing his body and game for the long season ahead. This was a nice change from last year when he was rehabbing under a cloud of uncertainty, hoping his knee would hold up and a team would sign him to play a big role.

Now West is a fixture in locker room, making sure everyone stays on point. When the young fellas get too far ahead of themselves, Obi-West Kenobi is there keep his team grounded and focused on the big picture.

"One thing I told the guys is not to get too high after wins and we can't get too low after losses," West said. "A sign of maturity is being able to maintain the middle ground, being able to take care of your body and being able to finish strong."
