The Indiana Pacers are back in Toronto for an encore performance against the Raptors on Friday night.
The two teams tangled on December 28th with the Pacers hanging on for a 90-85 win thanks to some timely work at winning time by Danny Granger and David West. The Pacers withstood a strong performance by Andrea Bargnani and DeMar DeRozan to take the W back through Customs.
Tonight the Pacers catch another break with Andrea Bargnani expected to miss the game. The sweet shooting big man strained a calf in the Raps' last game and had to leave early. He remains day-to-day but according to reports, not this day.
Toronto will be desperate to find a way to win tonight as the enter the game having lost four of their last five games. To add to the sense of urgency, the Raps play eight of their next nine on the road with their next five games against Chicago, Atlanta, Boston, Portland and the Clippers.
The Pacers need to push aside their positive vibes and find an edge to play with tonight. The have to stay hungry for wins regardless of the situation the opponent is playing through.
Here is the Pacers.com preview. For a Toronto perspective, check out Raptors HQ.

derozan vs pg should be fun to watch especially if
derozan struggles against pg and pg scores 40.
Without Clark
And his Clark-isms, we need to start coining some Denari-isms or Quinn-isms. Denari’s “They got a taste of the postseason last year and they liked it” is pretty awesome, haha.
sounds like a katy perry song.

Bargs is great this year
finally boarding and defending at an acceptable rate. still insanely hard to build around because his skillset’s so weird, but the guy can play.

Every time I start to think he’s garbage he goes for 19 and 8. Same thing with Barbosa.

Not worried.
We’ll have one of our explosive third quarters where we outscore them by 25.
This kind of reminds me of the New Jersey game, where regardless of the score early on you can tell just by looking at Toronto that they're not very good.
Which makes this start all the more frustrating.
not that we have any elite talent
but holy crap does Toronto need talent

Yep, the Toronto announcers really like saying the 'ooey-pooey'
However, Canadian announcers aren’t really Canadian. I feel robbed. I want to hear them say ‘aboot’ at least once.
The guy plays like shit for 5 games...

But they are just hot right now. It will fade. This game is starting like the Charlotte game it seems.
They've shot seven free throws to our zero and they're currently 9-14 from the field.
This isn’t going to continue.

And can’t say I’m surprised. Though as the better team the Pacers still have a good chance of playing better and coming back in the second half.

Are there stats showing the FG% within 5 feet of the basket for Indiana?

Not arguing that it was a dumb move.

I don’t agree with it, but I understand it. However, I don’t agree with throwing a guy out of the game because of that.
Any guy that opens his mouth needs a T now.
For consistency. Can’t be biased.
45-40
Down 5 at half. Yup just like Charlotte.
Oh hell...
… we’re playing the rest of the game without Danny’s 12.5% shooting. How will we manage?
other than that block I'm not sure. He's been defending who, Rasual Butler? If he was responsible for DeRozan, then his D hasn't been that great.
He was by far the team leader in field goal attempts and only had four points to show for it—and gave two of those back on technicals.
by dustinpurvis on Jan 13, 2012 8:17 PM EST up reply actions
Fair enough. I guess I just hadn't noticed anything on either side of the ball, in this game, that made his presence seem too valuable.
One player who has looked worse, though, is David West. By far his worst game of the season.
by dustinpurvis on Jan 13, 2012 8:24 PM EST up reply actions
+1
Even though I’d wish he was out there, I agree. He did hit a nice fade away in the lane
Didn't we lose to Philly without Danny's 12.5% shooting?
He’s a key player even if he’s not hitting shots.
Free throw shooting, defense
Aren’t intangibles though. He should’ve gotten to the line more than twice and DeRozen literally disappeared from the game after his hot start.
I thought PG was on DeRozen but I'm not really sure
Hopefully DeRozen starts playing like the first game DeRozen (at least the 1st 3 qtrs).
Why?

by Bronn on May 17, 2011 4:56 PM EDT
But it doesn't happen after every play.
Only when a guy gets knocked on his ass after a monster block.
Maybe
I could agree if I heard audio of him verbally taunting…but standing? No, no, no, no, no, no, no way I would call that a deserving tech.
Secondly...
it’s not like he wagged a finger or yelled…he stood there a little too long. And if you noticed, the Raptor came into his body flailing so that is why Danny hovered afterwards…bs call, bs call.
+1
I expect us to come out the way we closed the half . I agree that there shouldn’t have been a tech for walking. He could have asked him if he was alright for all we know. Good point Ejay.
Remember Jordan
Scored over a Knick and basically walked over him while he was on the ground barking at him the whole time. No technical there.
everything changed after the brawl
they try and nip any hint of altercation in the bud now. i think there’s also…other reasons they’re so quick to throw out T’s, but we won’t get into it
"He's like Darth Vader." - Frank Vogel on Larry Bird
well, it was A pacer

They put in an addendum this year, too
Making ’aggressive gestures anywhere on the court"
What does that even mean? That would be everyone! Basically, it sound to be at the discretion of the referee.
I'll say what I think you are thinking:
They have to market the game to a lot of white people and it will look too thuggish if they allow the trash talking and intimidation
more or less

PG
I can handle the fouls on D (even the dumb pump fake foul). What I don’t understand is the tentative nature on the offensive end.
5:36 in the quarter, in the penalty.
Give it to Roy every time.
Come on.
I watched this game as Indiana/Minnesota last night. Someone should’ve told me this was a remake. Could’ve saved my time.
The schedule is going to get tougher for the Hoosiers
I’m even keeled, but they need a good road win from them.
Boston is done.
They aren’t the team they were last year, let alone the year they won the championship. I see them as the 7th or 8th seed.
Man, that's a good question.
Depends on which Pacers team shows up.
I'm going to say yes, Indiana has done well on back to backs
but they’re inability to start strong lately is bothering me (w/ the exception of ATL)
A lot of late whistles
starting to irritate me – the refs are waiting on the outcome of the play before calling the foul.
The "wait to see the outcome" whistles...
… are new, right? I can’t remember seeing them in years past.
They seem to be becoming more frequent
I remember seeing them at times last year, at least that may have been the first time I really started noticing them.
You know...
when Foster was scouted by the Pacers way back in 1833, he hit 6 consecutive three pointers and finished 12 of 20 from beyond the arc. True story.
I am watching NBA League Pass
with the Toronto broadcasters – they are actually fairly non-partial. I like.
Oh wow, a 3-1 looked HORRIBLE...
… and panned out. Luck. Gotta love it.
No, cuz shoving an ancient Celtic to the floor is manslaughter.
It would kill them, and that’s illegal.
actually...
I would argue that the Pacers lacked mens rea (Latin for criminal intent) and therefore carry no guilt.
It's strange because it was so obviously off of Hill that the ref seemed to be acknowledging that he had let a foul go when he initially gave the ball to the Pacers.
Unfortunately the ref, who was in worse position, reversed the call.
by dustinpurvis on Jan 13, 2012 9:02 PM EST up reply actions
Yeah def
I actually look forward to 3rd quarters now
The shooting evened out.
Pacers at .417, Toronto at .436.
The first quarter belonged to Toronto.
The other two were ours. This should be a win for us.
COME ON
Fast break situations look AWFUL. HOW!?
Whoever fouled him is an idiot.
If you’re going to foul a guy that’s just grabbed two offensive boards, shove his ass to the floor.
This always confused me, how do they decide who gets the ball in bounds after a half and qtr?
Is it because Toronto didn’t have a full 25 seconds on the shot clock before the end of the 3rd?
I was wondering that myself.
Cuz they just had it. Not sure why they get it back.
Is DC usually in the game at this point?
Is he going to play the entire fourth if it’s close? Or is he going to get rest in a minute or what?
I get tired ...
of seeing guys drive to the basket, fade away and then flop on their ass and then they get the foul call.
Put the damn whistles away already!
Both teams over the limit already. Nine minutes left in the quarter. Sheesh.
I mean
Here I am at the office watching the game on the computer – the wife thinking I am out carousing with painted ladies and I got refs slowing me down.
We are now shooting better than the Rapts.

They can win that division. Even if the Celtics aren’t completely done, I doubt they push for anything more than a playoff spot and I just find it really hard to take the Knicks seriously as anything more than a lower tier playoff team. Philly’s an interesting team.
