Are we interested in Rasheed Wallace?
Excerpt from yahoo sports. Intriguing. Back-up 4 and 5 anyone?
"Rasheed Wallace is contemplating a comeback to the NBA, league sources told Yahoo! Sports.
Wallace, who retired after 15 seasons in 2010, has been working out and probing some close league friends about possible destinations to sign for the rest of the season, sources said.
At 6-foot-11, Wallace, 37, had been one of the most versatile and talented power forwards of his era. One league source who has talked with Wallace recently describes him as “serious” about a return to the NBA this season. Nevertheless, no teams contacted by Yahoo! Sports reported that they had any contact with Wallace, or his representative.
When reached on Friday, Wallace’s agent, Bill Strickland, would only tell Yahoo! Sports’ Marc Spears: “As a veteran player, [Wallace] knows what it takes to be reinstated.”
Wallace holds appeal for several contending teams, but all wonder about his shape and conditioning after sitting out 18 months. Wallace played 79 regular season games for the Celtics in his final year, but the organization never felt he truly got into playing shape until the playoff run to the NBA Finals in 2010. In a limited role, several GMs told Yahoo! they still believe his scoring and defending ability would probably be better than anyone else available to them."

No.
Slap yourself for asking.
Kidding. Well… kinda…
I'm not THAT interested
But as a solid defender and stretch big (which I honestly think we could use at times) at the vet’s minimum, sure. He has some kinda stupid contract or playing time demands he can stay on the couch, but you bet your ass I’d take him over Lou or Pedergraph.

Not at all.
Of all the Pistons, he is the one I truly hate.

I f*cking hate this guy
I don’t care that he was probably the Pistons’ best and most unique overall player during their most recent championship runs (seriously, he was a world-class defending stretch 4 with a nose for rebounding…like if Troy Murphy played great defense and shot a little worse/less). I have respect for his game. But first and foremost I assume he spent the last 18 months eating, smoking weed, getting the munchies and eating some more. At best he’s good for a few hard fouls a game and 5-10 debilitating technical fouls over the year. At worst he’s just stoned all the time. Secondly, I f*cking hate him as a human being. That much is personal.

Don't think much of his character, eh?
I’m with you. Last time I saw him play, he was fat, lethargic and unmotivated.

Hmmmm
Yeah, that would be great – perhaps we could get Isiah Thomas to play point along with him – and Artis Gilmore to play Center – and bring back Reggie Miller! With that much veteran talent we could rename the team the Indiana Celtics Midwest.
Agree with all of you.
Will definitely take a pass on this one but just out of curiosity, since a lot of once retired players have come out of retirement for one final run, just in case we had to sign a veteran and our choices are narrowed down to Rasheed, laterell spreewell, derrick coleman, isiah rider or Harold miner, who would be the best fit among that lot? Let us assume they’re all 37 years old.
My pick is sheed. He can play 2 positions including a stretch 4 or 5. Good back-up to Roy,west and Tyler.
I would take Derrick Coleman. . .
He could be an eating coach fro Hibber and PG. Doesn’t he have his own line of BBQ sauce

spreewell
hasn’t it been 5 or 6 years since latrell spreewell made an NBA roster?

Are you seriously kidding me?
Rasheed Wallace summary
1. plagued the pacers for years
2. is completely over the hill and starting the next
3. has hurt every team he has played for with his immaturity, technical fouls, and stupidity
4. wouldn’t fit into our rotation
5. has a strange spot on the back of his head, which I always said was the place his mother put her crack pipe out on his head .. just odd
so anyone no … slap this guy for this comment SLAP
No thanks
Would set us back 10 years with a guy like Sheed. Next caller.
That doesn't make any sense.
Taking a flyer on a talented over the hill vet with character issues for the last 3/4 of a season can not possibly set us back 10 years unless he shoots Paul George in the face and frames Hibbert for the murder.

TASTELESS!!!
Insulting anothers Mother should never be tolerated, EVER!!!
I'm going to have to disagree with everyone.
We are a good team, with good character guys. But, we don’t have world class talent. I wouldn’t be drooling over the chance to sign Wallace, BUT….you guys are thinking with your hearts too much. I always hated him. Not so much for his whinning and temper. But, I hated the fact that he was talented enough to be one of the best players, like top 5 or so, when he was in the league. But he just seemed to play when he felt like it.
However, it’s not like we have to sign him before working him out. I’m sure he’d be pretty cheap. And as someone above said, even a shell of Rasheed Wallace (if his attitude is in the right place) would be better than Lou of Pendergraph. If he were to act up….waive him or just buy him out. Foster hopefully will remain healthy enough all season to make this a moot point. But, if Foster gets hurt (crossing fingers he doesn’t) or if we realize we could really use a PF/C to stretch the floor for our limited front court…It can’t hurt that much to give it a try.

Imagine the Up-Roar
of having to buy him out…No Thanks
$1.5 million...
….pro-rated.
What about the uproar when he goes to a good team, averages 18mpg, 9ppg (48% FG), 5.5rpg, 1.3bpg off the bench and helps a team get to the finals….and Hibbert and/or Foster miss long stretches (including playoffs) and we finish with 8th seed and a 5 game boot.
Hate to say it, but that scenario is nearly just as likely….assuming he really has worked himself into great shape and is focused…which we will have the ability to find out if we work him out.
There’s also a decent chance that he wouldn’t consider us enough of a contender to mess with and an even greater chance that he wouldn’t look good enough in a workout to consider signing.
I’m not saying we should jump all over it. Just something we should consider if the elements look right. I think too many of you are letting your emotions rule your thinking on this when we owe it to the team and us fans to make our team as good as possible. I guess most of you are also assuming he’s too old and a malcontent which I agree with. I just think it would be worth working him out to see if his body and mind are in the right place to overcome some of his history. Low risk, potentially high reward kind of thing.
Bird would never do it either unless he really said all the right stuff in person with management.

I would rather
sign Jonathan Bender…not what he once was or ever could have been but at least he won’t get 2,588 technical fouls.
