recently, there's been rumours flying around that J.O. is planning on retiring after next season. Everyone knows the celtics are on their last legs, and might go into complete rebuilding mode in the next couple of seasons. The Pacers currently needs help at the power foward position. here's my proposal:
james Posey + 2013 2nd round
for Jermain O'neal
Now, I know J.O. is a shell of his former self but the man is a professional and a leader on and off the court. At first I was somewhat accepting of james possey's role as a veteran who shot threes and drew offensive fouls, but towards the end of last season, I and many Pacer fans cringed whenever Possey came in. James Posey was clearly an impediment to the progress and development of this team, especially since he and vogel had a falling out, clearly the only value James Possey has is that of an expiring contract next season. Although Jermaine is just as old as posey, he would not jack up threes and do nothing else. Instead the guy will still roam the paint, give you rebounds, thoughness and add a real defensive presence in the paint.
On a personal note, I don't understood why pacer fans booed him when he came back to indianapolis as a raptor, I thought of all the major players of the brawl, he had very little to do with instigating the awful event. The piston fans were clearly targeting J.O. because he was the best player on their rival's squad, they attacked him and hence he retaliated. I can not defend Ron Artest, Jackson, or Tinsley for their part, but J.O. was an okay dude in my book. I don't think I've ever heard him being arrested for anything. J.O. joined the celtics solely for the pursuit of a championship, but clearly the celtics aren't getting past the heat next season, so why not let J.O. finish his career in the City that brought him stardom. And who knows, maybe, just maybe a return to the Pacers will reignite that fire in Jermaine and carry him through his last legs. A rejuvenated and professional J.O. can possibly do intangible wonders with a young team like the Pacers, if not that then do it simply to allow J.O. to ride into the sunset with the team that he identifies and wants to be remembered as.
