A trade proposal...if the season actually happens
Just a quick idea for a trade. I don't know how this will all work with (the old) salary cap, but if anyone knows then please weigh in on it. Here goes:
Let's say we sign Nene in the $11-12 million per range. We could have him and Big Roy starting up front for a pretty wicked front court or we could start Nene at the 5 and then trade Roy and Brandon Rush to Minnesota for Anthony Radnolph and Darko. Alternatively we could have Derrick Williams instead of Randolph.
The Wolves now have Adelman as their coach, which may also mean that Kahn's input in the front office will be minimized, thus increasing the likelihood we could get a trade done with them. They are also likely to be looking for some veteran presence, which Roy brings, although I'm not sure if he fits into their up-tempo plans.
For the Pacers, we get rid of Rush, which is addition by subtraction right there, but we lose a great guy and solid 5 man in Hibbert. It would pain me to get rid of him, but I think we'd have a pretty formidable frontline with Nene and Williams or Nene and Randolph and then bringing Tyler and Darko (who puts up good backup numbers, but is overpaid for doing it) off the bench.
I'm not sure how this would work under the current cap i.e. signing Nene to top dollar and then the ability to trade for Darko and Williams/Randolph. Nor do I know how this would affect our ability to resign some of our younger players. Any comments on this would be welcomed.
Let's get some chat going and maybe, just maybe, we'll have a season.

If we could get Derrick Williams...
Yes.
If it’s for Randolph…
No.

Yeah....
I dont think so! I honestly cant seeing the wolves giving up Williams for Rush/Big Roy. They will move Beasley outta Minny long, LONG before D. Williams…. I wouldnt mind trading Rush for Randolph, but we can get a more PF in Jordon Hill or Jason Thompson than Randolph (who i have always liked, but 6-11, 225lbs). NOW, about trading Roy, Im not sure, I love the big guy and he has a ton of heart/soul…just needs to play pissed off and play like the other bigs from his Hoyas ala..Ewing, Mutumbo, Mourning. He is getting up to around 260-265lbs to gain more dominance down low. As for signing Nene, I was wanting this since last season. A line up of Collison, George, Granger, Nene, Hibbert with G. Hill, Tyler, Lance and maybe J.Hill and Foster could be a solid group especially that starting 5.

I don't see how dumping Rush is addition by subtraction
I’ve seen a few other posters imply this also, and I don’t get it.
Yes, Rush is a frustrating prospect who sometimes makes boneheaded plays, and it would be so, so nice if he’d ever live up to his potential. But those problems can be solved by sitting him at the end of the bench. I don’t hear any accounts of him being a locker room cancer and his contract isn’t an albatross. Besides an extra 3 million in cap space, I don’t see the team being helped any more by cutting him loose than if they just never played him in games. Are we still mad at him for taking Magnum Rolle’s roster spot?
-208
This number is part of a statistic. A statistic that explains how the team performed while a certain player was on the floor. When Rush was on the court the opposing team scored 208 more points than us. So, by subtracting Rush from the team, we automatically get better. I don’t want him on the bench because, omnipotent being help us, someone could get injured which would cause him to be getting minutes with the team again and thus make the team awful when he is on the floor. I don’t want the team to be awful, so by subtracting Rush the team becomes non-awful and thus we get a beautiful addition to the team by subtracting a minus.
P – R = GT
Try and figure that out ^

I call bullshit
I assume you’re using some sort of +/- stat? If it’s an individual one I don’t give a shit what it says, it’s completely useless. If it’s a 5×5 one then Dunleavy’s (who’s actually a solid player) was one of our five best players last year (as was McBob, which I’d agree with). Before last season and early on into the year I supported Rush quite a bit, I’m sure a lot of you remember, then there was absolutely no development and now he is what he is. Which is a very good defensive player with athleticism that knocks down an open J. That worth a lotto pick? Not in the vast majority of drafts, but I can’t think of any other reason for people to harp on him so much other than him not taking advantage of his physical abilities and not being a 2 that puts up 20 a night. People apparently just need a scapegoat, someone they can say “oh that guy sucks.” He gets paid (relatively) next to nothing, far as I know he’s no locker room problem, he gets (got?) high. God forbid.
Rush is not a starter, he’s not a 6th man. But he’s a quality role player. We’ll dump/trade him and the team he goes to will have a clear role for him that suits what he is and he’ll succeed. I honestly have no doubt about that, if he doesn’t then forever call my player evaluation abilities into question.
With the 16th pick in the 2012 NBA Draft the Indiana Pacers select Thomas Robinson, Kansas
Yeah...
It’s +/- net kind of stat. I don’t really put much value into this particular stat either, but -208 was just incredible to me. I felt that it illustrates how lethargic the offense gets with him on the floor. Even if he is a quality defender ( I think people really overstate this), it can’t make up for the problems he causes to the offense.
I have a few problems with Rush.
1. He doesn’t live up to his physical gifts.
2. He doesn’t seem to work at his craft. From his rookie year, he really hasn’t changed at all in any aspect of the game. This is compounded when you look at guys like PG and Hibbert working/improving their games, then see Rush flat lining. Even if he doesn’t get physically better at the game (i.e. ability to dribble), you would have at least expected a mental development.
3. Doesn’t seem to have a competitive spirit. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t mean the animated stuff like Reggie hopping around or Hibbert doing the dougie, he just looks like he’s floating all the time.
When watching Rush, I get the feeling of a man who is just going through the paces at his job. He does the bare minimum, just to get by. He doesn’t enjoy appear to enjoy his job, it seems that he’s just doing it because he could make money at it. I suppose some of my hate comes from the perceived ‘meh’ attitude he has when he’s playing a game I love.

Rush
My rationale for including Rush in this trade proposal was because the T-Wolves are thin at the 2 (I’d actually expect them to trade one of their many 4 men for a two guard once the season starts) and Rush would fit a need for them. To be fair, you can throw in Dahntay Jones if you like, but I’d rather have him around instead of Rush for the fact that he does work harder.
As for Rush taking Rolle’s spot, that was more Solomon Jones than anyone and at that point I still thought Rush would get better. So no, I’m not holding any grudges. Further, I think it is addition by subtraction as he may get the odd minutes here and there which takes away from Paul George, Dahntay Jones, Lance, and George Hill, all of whom are more deserving, in my opinion
If we are frustrated
with Rush’s erratic play why do people always seem to think that other teams would want him? He has potential but the NBA benches are full of potential.
What about a trade with Utah?
James Posey, Brandon Rush, Darren Collison and a protected 1st round pick for Paul Millsap and Devin Harris. What do you guys think of this trade? Being neither a fan of Indiana or Utah it’s hard to gauge what y’all think of it, but I think it works for both parties. Indiana gets two starting quality players while Utah gets cap relief, a young point guard to play along with their young core pieces and a future pick.
I think Indiana’s roster looks pretty balanced after this trade:
PG: Devin Harris – George Hill – AJ Price
SG: Paul George – Lance Stephenson
SF: Danny Granger – Dahntay Jones
PF: Paul Millsap – Tyler Hansbrough
C: Roy Hibbert -
So you’d still need a backup center, but with a cap figure of 42 million after the trade, you could honestly still go after one of the marquee free agent centers like Nene or Marc Gasol. it would be putting Hibbert in a backup role, and goddamn that team would be deep and talented.
The smarter you are, the more likely you are to be tripping balls at any given moment.
Bring Back Dre.
I’d leave the point guard swap out of it (doubt Larry Bird would go for that anyway), switch Jefferson with Millsap, and then you probably have a deal. I’m not that high on MIllsap, especially since he would have to be a starter for us. I really don’t see him as more than a really good guy to bring off the bench and give a lot of minutes.
As for Jefferson, I don’t think he’ll ever be more than a good stats guy on a mediocre team and his defence is the polar opposite of what we need, but his rebounding and scoring would really help us. This essentially becomes a salary dump for Utah as I’ve made it and I’m not sure if they would go for that.
