George Hill Didn't Take Trade News Well
The Indiana Pacers were quite excited to bring local hoops legend George Hill back home through a trade on draft night. Apparently, the feelings weren't mutual.
Mike Monroe reports that Hill was down after learning he'd be leaving his buddy DeJuan Blair and a San Antonio Spurs team he loved.
The fact Hill was traded to the team that plays in his hometown was no consolation. One of the most affable of Spurs was not up to speaking to the reporters he always accommodated, win or lose, hero or goat.
"He is real emotional right now," said his agent, Michael Whitacre.
Trading Hill wasn't easy for Gregg Popovich and Buford, either. The GM called Thursday "one of the most difficult nights in Spurs history since we've been here."
Seems like a pretty natural reaction when people you trust and respect tell you they don't want to spend the money to keep you and are letting you go. Fact is, the Spurs decided they wouldn't have the money to sign Hill which made this a straight business decision.
Just not an easy one.
I'm sure Hill will be all smiles during his intro presser with the Pacers on Monday.

Blair
He does not play the best D mostly on pick and roll defence. Also Blair was gaining to much weight as the season went on starting with a solid year and ending with not getting the same numbers on the board and effort on the defence. That all being said Glad that the spurs did not let him go because of the cheaper deal you can get cause of the ACL thing and other teams being afraid.

How would you feel?
It is not easy having to move for anyone. The good thing is that George will recover and see the good side of the move when he gets back home.
Keeping the dream alive for 2012!
This is what happens when you give Jefferson
all that money for no reason.
SA has one of the best FO in the NBA.. but even they make mistakes (Scola….)
No reason to read in to this..
I agree. Seems like a pretty natural reaction.

No problem with this.
How would you feel if you went from the best overall org in the L with all the comradery (sp?) in that lockerroom, great weather, and you’re being seen as the replacement if (or when) they deal Parker?
I love the Pacers, but I could see how Hill would cry a bit inside (and outside) about this move. But, he’s a pro, and he’ll turn that sadness into motivation, and see this as a chance to be a Terry-like leader off the bench for this team. Welcome home, George!
Cant wait
to see how every turns on George H once he turns out no better than Collinson. Everyone was so high on Collison when he came here. Both players looked great in the system they were in but once they get here they tend to look average. Its only a matter of time. I like Hill but this move isn’t going to turn out like everyone thinks. This team is still a 37 win team if they don’t make some better moves.
so youd rather have had the pacers
using their 15th pick in one of the weakest drafts in recent memory? i highly doubt, actually, i am certain that whoever we would have picked at 15th would not contribute to the team like george will next season.
Harper's on Miller, McKey, gets in to Miller for the win and...

Yes
George will not make us infinately better than if we would have pick for example Alec Burks or Marshon Brooks. Both were more accomplished scorers in college than George in better conferences. Hate to burst some bubbles after such positive reactions but George isn’t going to get us an extra 10 wins. I’m glad they traded Leonard but we need more scoring punch and Brooks or a trade for Burks could have done that better than George Hill. He is a 6’2" guard that has skills like a shooting guard but has pg size. If he was like Iverson or Monte Ellis I would be excited but he is no more than a step above Jarret Jack.
It isn't all about Hill's scoring
he is a damn good defender as well.
Hill
He has a large wing span that help with he D so not tall but does have length.

Accomplished scorer in college does not = Good scorere in NBA
see; Morrison, Adam – Reddick, JJ as recent examples.
Hill may not be the #1 scoring option that we wanted but he has one thing that NO ONE on our roster does: Experience.

Very true
And…um…George Hill WAS an accomplished scorer in college. He averaged 22ppg his last year. He was/is accomplished at a lot of other things. The trouble people should be having is not with his college pedigree, size or inability to score. It’s all about his potential vs. the potential of any draft pick we could have made or traded for instead of him. Picking Hill was MUCH safer than drafting someone like Burks or Brooks. They payoff may be lower, but probably not, given the odds.

I think we're up to .500 right now
We finished the season 20-18 under Vogs, and that was before getting Hill, (reportedly) Brian Shaw, and just the improvement we saw during the post-season. LB is still working things out.
I say over .500
Everyone is really undervaluing what Hill can mean to this team.

We Spurs fans are going to miss Indiana George. You guys take good care of him, OK?
Time to build a new dynasty from the ashes of the old one.
What do you think of the trade?
I say only time will tell what do you think of that??
PS.
The Spurs got a steal in the draft.

Sad to see George go, but it seems to be for the best. I was shocked to see Leonard fall that low, and glad we scooped him up. We needed a big, athletic perimeter defender, and we got one.
P.S. Bertans might make this trade look even better for the Spurs in a couple of years.
Time to build a new dynasty from the ashes of the old one.
if the spurs like him...
then I’m sure Bertans is a stud. Your team has an amazing nose for talent
He'll be in even more smiles when he see's how much the Pacers have to spend
ESPECIALLY WHEN HE SEE’S MIKE DONELEAVY’S CONTRACT TERMINATED!!!!!!!!

I just saw a bleacher report article speculating
that George Hill may be dealt to acquire the big PF that we’re missing… namely in a deal with Utah for either Jefferson or Milsap.
What are the thoughts around here on this?
By the way, here’s the link to said “talks”
Peyton Manning = GFQTWHESINTHOEF
All of Bird's deals seem to come out of nowhere
if there are talks, I don’t believe it anymore.
Well, not really any reports of "talks" per se
Just a bleacher report writer speculating based on current team need.
I think it’s something we may be able to solve in FA, but I’ve seen trade suggestions involving Hill, as well as another involving Rush and AJ price seeing as how they may be out of the picture with George coming to town.
Getting rid of Rush and AJ seems more logical to me, that is if any trade happens at all.

AJ will just get cut I think
And Rush is a cockroach.
Our ability to absorb a large contract is worth more than anything on our roster at this point.
I've been out of posting here for awhile.
Who’s the relative consensus FA PF that we should go for?
Zach Randolph’s going to be out there, yes?

Which is why I clarified by saying that there weren’t any actual “talks”
Just trying to gauge people’s thoughts about those trade scenarios.

considering Hill more or less = 15th draft pick
If you had told me 3 days ago Utah would give up Jefferson or Milsap for the #15 (plus parts like Rush and Price), I would have said the Jazz were crazy. So yeah, I like Hill with the Pacers, but if they can get either of those guys and still keep the core, it’s a pretty good trade
I f*cking love Bleacher Report
The only quote this twat supplied was from “his buddy Leo.” Awesome journalism there. I know it’s a fan site, but it has got to be the biggest piece of shit on the internet.
And I have no problem with trading George Hill. I’m just sayin. I wouldn’t wipe my ass with that Web site.
