NBA Draft OpenThread: And With The 15th Pick The Indiana Pacers Select...
The Indiana Pacers remain on the board with the 15th pick in the NBA Draft set to begin at 7:30PM.
Prior to the draft we've already had a some news to digest. For starters, there are reports of a large 3-way deal between the Charlotte Bobcats, Milwaukee Bucks and Sacramento Kings which has deliciously brought together Stephen Jackson and Scott Skiles among several other moving parts.
More importantly for the Pacers, Mike Wells tweets that former Lakers assistant, Brian Shaw has agreed to join the Pacers as an associate head coach. So now all the Pacers need is an actual head coach. See you soon, Frank.
Continue sharing your thoughts in the comments as the draft progresses to the Pacers pick.

As long as we don't draft any of the above an obvious guy like Burks or Singleton, what's the problem?
You’d rather have Marshon Brooks than either Morris or Klay Thompson? Not me.

Scott Skiles? haha
Im pretty sure he wasnt part of that trade. I think you meant Cory Magette and John Salmons
This is a little off topic
but does Klay Thompson seem like a Dunleavy clone or what? Don’t get the hype
In this draft, Dunleavy without the injuries would be a pretty good get in the lotto
But no, he doesn’t really pass like Dunleavy. Strictly a shooter IMO

Definitely
It’s bad for business, but I’m pretty damn attached to Roy. He’s gone a long way towards becoming the face of the franchise. Besides, I’m not as sold as most on Williams being some superstud.

Anyone making this deal would win over Minnesota
Because Minnesota is so far behind everyone else that the team trading up is going to fit Williams in perfectly.
Honestly
I don’t hate that trade for Minny. They need a two guard and talent. You’re talking about a team that finished with a worse record than a team that lost 26 straight games.
yu can't win with Ellis though
he can’t defend and shoots like crazy. His +/- stats are TERRIBLE
What does Minnesota care about winning?
They aren’t anywhere close to winning. They just need some players that don’t suck.
No
But drafting Williams means they’ll have to move Beasley and/or Randolph, who aren’t going to land you a player as good as Ellis, even if he doesn’t help you win.
Personally, I don’t think you ever trade the #2 pick in the draft because you are worried about Randolph’s playing time
Rubio/Ellis would be the worst defensive backcourt int he league. + kevin love at the 4? dear jesus

I was watching alot of his game tape and still not sure what the buzz is. He seems like an undersized PF that is slow. I know his D is good but he really doesnt impress me. I like Hill for the 15 in this draft
Remember just because Kawhi was projected top 8 doesn’t mean he is top 8. Hill gives the bench some scoring punch and can be a nice fill-in starter.

I prefer Hill over Kawhi too, If present day Hill were in this draft he would have been a lottery pick.

but I would like to get a pick out of it too
I'm done. See you guys. Pissed off right now. At least NYK just reached on Iman Shumpert.

Hill's PER last year
14.8
we better be getting back into the draft
of course everyone says there was nothing in this draft for us now
bird is bitter his trio of suck was gone before us
I guess Hill is better than Thompson, Morris, or Jimmer
WojYahooNBA Adrian Wojnarowski
The Pacers will also send the 42nd pick in this draft to the Spurs as part of the package to get George Hill, source says.
seriously Bird
are you telling me SA would have been like “no george hill” over a 2nd round pick?
wtf
Wait wait wait...
why the George Hill hate? STOP THE MADNESS!

seriously what didn’t we give the Spurs?
im sick of solid
I want hope for awesomness
14.8 PER isn’t going to excite me
eh… at least its a huge upgrade over Price
Welcome G Hill
I hope Stanko and Stevenson are ready to step up.
Here is an idea
Wait to start freaking out until the trade is actually announced. It’s the internet guys…
Info from reliable sources though.

The more I think about it, the more I love the deal
Hill will make the bench exponentially better.
well its draft night
every draft pick is an “unknown player”
I don't mind George Hill
He’s solid, and could grow if he gets more minutes. Leonard was a great pick, but do the Pacers really need another swingman? He was probably picked to be traded.
I think Peyton Manning could win both the Super Bowl and Presidential election in 2012.

Truth be told:
Leonard was great value and George Hill is a pretty good return
Wow.

If you told me yesterday that the Pacers would trade their picks for George Hill
I think I would have been happy? The fact that we got better value than expected at the pick, though, makes it hard to judge. I definitely don’t hate as much as some seem to.
Hill...
hasn’t had a PER over 15 and actually got a little worse last year.
Let us please not overrate him. He is a HUGE upgrade over Price but he is still a back up and I don’t ever see him taking Collison’s job, who also looks like a back up a lot of nights.
Did we get better? Of course… anytime you go from Price to Hill its an upgrade. But I am not going ot act ecstatic just because a home town kid comes back.
When you pick 15th...
…and you get a good value there…you’re supposed to get better.
Just b/c we got better doesn’t make it a good trade. Is that what you’re saying?
peac.e
I'm still torn...
I like hill and know virtually nothing about Leonard but if its the 42nd and Lorbek as well that’s steep. Then again Leonard is unproven and plays the one position where we’re probably set at so maybe its not so bad.
They have it as straight up on ESPN.

We need a name. A player. A somebody.
We land a lottery pick. And instead we end up with a backup point guard.
TD is ancient...
…It makes perfect sense. They are rebuilding and they are surprised that they didn’t move Parker. But, that’s why the Spurs win rings. They have patience and foresight.
peac.e
George Hill is not a shooting guard
Is GH just a backup? Why can’t we get a shooting guard? Are we going to start DG and PG at the same time?
Ok, then I'm okay.
DG can shoot the lights out. PG can dunk the rim down. And GH can be 2" taller than DC, and that’s about as exciting as he can be. Seriously? What is GH bringing to us?
PG at SG, DG at SF
I think PG makes a big time leap his sophomore season. Kid can ball.
I think Peyton Manning could win both the Super Bowl and Presidential election in 2012.

Not feeling it
Neither pick nor trade have felt right to me. Not necessarily what we really need in either case.
not kidding
going to give up a first round draft pick for back-up minutes? not exactly what I had in mind when we need a 2 and a 4 badly
didn't pick it...
…and didn’t trade for it
I feel exactly the same way
I was a little confused about both picks but hey we do need a backup PG price sucks
If this is the last thing that happens before the lockout.
I’m gonna have a bit of a bad taste in my mouth for a long time.

George Hill
How could anyone not like this move
We turned a 15 (look at the history of 15’s-they don’t amount to much) into a very good Guard who can play the point or shooting guard and has proven he can play…. at least your getting someone who you know can play versus a rookie who may not make it
you mean like the number rankings or the formula?
it rates players (essentially) based on pace instead of just hard numbers
has a bunch of good stuff minus bad stuff lol
doesn’t rate defenders well and overates rebounding a ton
I know what it is
well, in concept. but it’s severely flawed.
i did less complicated formulas in calculus.

What is Minny Gonna do with all of those Bigs?
Lets see….Kevin Love, Derrick Williams, Darko, Beasley, Brad Miller, Anthony Tolliver, Anthony Randolph, They have to have more trades in line. But you never know with Kahn
The Rockets are loading up on 4 men; I’ve been high on him for a long time, but do you think this will make Jordan Hill available for us?

Felton/Andre Miller
And a pick swap according to Yahoo’s Marc Spears. Seems kinda pointless.

Contracts are pretty similiar I think
I dunno, maybe Miller’s a good Lawson mentor? Miller and Felton are on about the same tier of PGs, like Miller a little more. Obviously Felton’s younger. Whatever.
KEEP COACH FRANK
I think one of the reasons im bummed
is that instead of dreaming of some draft pick I didn’t know being something special during the lockout… i get George Hill lol
brb back to dreaming about George becoming what Tmac should have become
Rule #1 in 2011.
When the Spurs call about the guy you just drafted….the Spurs that drafted Tony Parker, Manu Ginobili, Dejuan Blair, and George Hill (pretty good value where he was drafted)…you hang up the phone and keep the guy. Do you question what SA has done?
When it’s all said and done, the Spurs had another good draft and in all likelihood the Pacers just moved laterally. Loosing some of our solid vets. I don’t see us surpassing what we did last year and we gave up a quality young guy with potential to be a great compliment to George if he develops his offense.
peac.e
quality young guy with potential to be a great compliment to George if he develops his offense.
You could say the same about George Hill too…
But...he's at his ceiling...
…or very close.
Kwahi wasn’t a guy I really wanted. But, I think he could develp into a guy with trade value….or if Paul George develops offense, could make Granger much more expendable. Are we only looking toward October 2011 or are we looking to be a great team some day?
peac.e
Did we end up sending 42 also? I had seen conflicting sources
