IC Cold Links: Pacers Consider Dwane Casey In Coaching Search

On a rare personal note, I spent a large swath of hours on both Saturday and Sunday this weekend at the ball park (six games and two major rain delays between my two boys) so my head was out of the NBA clouds most of the time.

Fortunately, four of those games were wins by my son's 9U team, earning them a tournament championship. Go Bombers!

As for the Pacers, things have been pretty quiet with regard to their efforts to hire a head coach, although Eddie Sefko reports this morning that the Pacers are taking a look at Dallas Mavericks' assistant, Dwane Casey. Casey is a highly respected assistant coach, currently working under Rick Carlisle so this news shouldn't surprise anyone.

After focusing on the NBA pre-draft combine at the end of last week, the Pacers may be putting more focus on the coaching decision this week. Larry Bird minimized expectations about a quick hire, saying the team's priority was preparing for the draft which includes player evaluations and chatter with other teams looking to make a deal.

Although he said otherwise, I find it hard to believe Bird and the rest of the front office don't want to resolve the coaching situation before the draft to give the coach a chance to evaluate the talent and offer input on the players he's going to have to coach. Maybe the lack of noise out of the Fieldhouse indicates something is brewing.

After the jump, a few links of interest gathered over the past few days.
