Bulls Fans are annoying, Pacers fans are invisible.
Bulls fans seemed to find necessary to chant over and over: "MVP, MVP, MVP". This in game 3 where Derrick Rose shoots an extremely poor 4/18(22%) with 5 turnovers on only 2 assist and 3 boards. Rose did have 21 points but he wasn't void of help from the officiating crew. 13 of those points were from free throw line. Most of those are from drives that could be considered charging, that is if you aren't a superstar for a large market team, otherwise they become blocking fouls. Regardless, it only accredits the quality of the defense (of Dahntay Jones and Paul George) by continually pointing out that the player with the worst statistical performance in the game is the league MVP. Even after the game you could hear the mindless chants of "MVP,MVP,MVP" from the drunk Bulls fans fill the streets and walkways of Indianapolis. Way to go, keep shooting 22% and turning over the ball, MVP.
Another chant they seem to like is "Pacers suck, Pacers suck". Not only is this a snotty and classless thing to do, it also makes them look stupid. The Bulls had the #1 record in the regular season while the Pacers had the #19th record. That being said the Bulls won all 3 games by the skin of their teeth. The Bulls have the definite advantage in getting the NBA's superstar handicap, plus having home-court advantage in the series but they still haven't won a game by more than 6 points. This series could easily have ended up 3-0 in favor of the 8th seeded Pacers and yet "they suck"? What does that say for the #1 ranked Bulls? Its simple, either the Bulls are overrated, the Pacers are underrated, or both. You choose Bulls fans. But I wonder what you will be saying next season when we get a better lottery pick and have lots of extra salary space to get some pieces to get us over that 4-6 point 4th quarter bump. A win is a win but good teams don't struggle against sucky ones, especially when you have no injuries and you are in the Playoffs.
But worse than the way Bulls fans behave was the Bulls to Pacer fan ratio at last nights game. It was literally like 1:1 in the sold out Conseco Fieldhouse. Indiana is supposed to be the "Basketball State" yet they won't support the Pacers like it their team. Ok, yeah I know some Pacer players had a brawl like 6 years ago. The Pacers were also pretty good then, but the fans said they didn't want the bad guys anymore. So the team responded and got rid of Ron Artest, Stephen Jackson, and Jamaal Tinsley. In the rebuilding process the Pacers had some pretty poor seasons and some pretty bad play, but the organization did what we asked. We should have supported them then but now the Pacers are clean, young, in the Playoffs and are getting better daily but we still won't support them. This one is on us. So no, Indiana isn't the Ultimate Basketball State but the State of fair-weather fans and its just kinda sad because I think we might lose this team. Thing is, once Peyton Manning is gone, the same thing will likely happen with the Colts. So there is something we could learn from Chicago fans... Chicago Cubs fans, that is. They support their team even when they are bad... year, after year, after year....

Although it may not have seemed like it, the majority of the fans in Conseco last night were Pacers fans. Most of the idiot Bulls fans were up in the balcony doing what they do best, getting drunk and talking shit. I found that the appropriate response to the “mvp” chants was an “SAT” chant. Seemed to piss the ones around me off.
"I really don’t want to offend you, Bob, but I don’t read your column, I really don’t," - Peyton Manning
I found it very odd that they were being so cocky. If I were a Bulls fan I would be embarrassed, not bragging about this series.
Embarrassed
What’s there to be embarrassed about? Bulls are up 3-0, Rose is playing lights out, everything is A-OK
Embarrassing: Being a #1 seed and consistently struggling against a sub .500 team.
Embarrassing: The MVP shooting 22% with 5 turnovers in a NBA game and calling it lights out.
It's the playoffs
Its funny how people will just shit on their own team, basically calling them bums just for the sake of an argument. No wonder your attendance sucks, even when the Bulls sucked, Chicago still had pride for its team.
Shit happens in the playoffs, sure maybe we would be embarrassed if you guys actually WON A GAME, but the series is 3-0 bulls so like I said, everything is A-OK
Oh, and I’d take 22% with 5 turnovers, and the game winning shot over Danny Grangers stat line and a brick worthy of Lebron James in the clutch any day
when the bulls sucked, chicago still had pride for its team?
that’s funny, because i lived in chicago when they bulls sucked, and there weren’t that many bulls fans, and the bulls were the butt of jokes. now, everyone is a bulls fan. sort of like how everyone in chicago likes the blackhawks now when 3-4 years ago no one really cared

You really should stop, you know nothing about Chicago
Just to let you know, even when MJ was around, Chicago wasn’t really a basketball city, so just stop while you are ahead (or were). Two, Chicago will forever and ever always be a Bears and Cubbies city first, Bulls a far distant third. Three, the United Center has been on the higher end of the attendance throughout the years when they were terrible. Four, no one cared about the Blackhawks because they weren’t on TV, but you wouldn’t know that because you don’t care to know. It’s hard to follow a team when you can’t watch any of their games because of very shitty owners. Five, and you must be kidding if you think Bulls fans didn’t come out for the “Baby Bulls” owners.
Look, I get it, Chicago and Cook county has more population then your entire state, people from Chicago are dicks and it’s called the Windy City, it’s a big market. But don’t go spewing out crap like you know anything, living some place for a few years doesn’t make you knowledgeable of everything of that area.

And?
Just because tickets are given out, doesn’t mean people would go if they didn’t give a shit about em
Same could be said about your squad, yet nobody gives a shit about the Pacer’s in Indiana so they don’t go
Apples and Oranges
We are comparing apples and oranges. The Pacers don’t have the industry, population density, and revenue that Chicago does.
And? What does this go back to? That Chicago is not a Bulls town?
Duh, it’s not. Bears or Cubs, it’s all they talk about on sports radio. At a local bar I had to ask to put the Bulls game on over the women’s college hoops final four. But when the Bulls did suck, the fans still came out (I went to a Bulls – Pistons game, Bulls were in a 17 or 18 game losing streak, easily the best game I’ve ever been too). I still don’t even understand what you guys are arguing, any fan from any fanbase can be an annoying homer, who cares.
Bears. Bulls. White Sox.
They do that for every sports stadium, for any sport
It’s not just companies, they provide fun prizes to in case you haven’t gone or listened to the radio. What more can be provided that, the team that had the worst record from 2000-2005 also put up the highest attendance? You can keep talking about your unintangible thing as in “it’s not a Bulls city,” or how the original author of this post (or somewhere else in this post) talks about BaB as in “refuses to believe in any stats.”
But then when I bring out the one attendance stat there is, you throw it back in my face.
Bears. Bulls. White Sox.
Um...you have 3 X as many people in your city
"You're hitting the wrong person. Don't you know you're hitting Ron Artest?"
Come visit The Fantasy Ninjas. We'd love to hear from you.
I love the Pacers and don’t think I called them bums to make a point. They still are a sub .500 team and that is just the reality. Doesn’t make me a worse fan to point that out or a worse fan to wish they had achieved a better record.
But maybe embarrassed wasn’t a good word. I just would think Bulls fans would be talking about how they need to play better or that it was a good game instead of shouting out their greatness and trying to shove it down the throats of the fans for team they barely beat.
I don't speak for all Bulls fans
But when I go to a stadium for a game, my intention is not to talk intelligent basketball. I think you will find a surprising amount of Bulls fans that think the Bulls need to play better, there is no denying that. A Bulls team that is up 3-0 on the Pacers feels more like a 3-3 game heading into the final match. Please don’t base your judgment on fans that ended up driving to your stadium/city for five hours to have a good time and make a weekend of it. That’s being a bit harsh.
Bears. Bulls. White Sox.
Ok thats fair, but it wasn’t mean’t to be an all-blanketing statement about every Bulls fan, just the majority of the ones I observed. Like you said yourself: “people from Chicago are dicks.” It was just the lack of civility that was shocking not the lack of intelligent bball talk. But I never lived in Chicago, maybe that is their default demeanor. Doesn’t change the fact that it was annoying.
I think it's the default demeanor, it's never really bothered me, and honestly didn't notice it
Until I went to Phoenix, everyone there is just so damned nice. Same with Colorado where my father lives, everyone is just super-friendly and very different from reactions you would get from Chicago. An example, I went to go pre-pay gas at the pump (because every place in Chicago you have to do that), and the gas clerk in Colorado had no idea what I was doing since no one does it out there. I had asked him and he had never gotten a “Gas’n’go”
Bears. Bulls. White Sox.
You're right...
this post totally puts blame on the fanbase for the loss. I assume your just another bulls fan who doesn’t know how to read, much like your star player.
And the Indians are a baseball team.

Where were you sitting?
It wasn’t a 50-50 split at the Fieldhouse last night, more like 70-30. Thought the crowd was plenty loud last night.
I was in the cheap seats
I looked around and looked at pictures and I saw more red than gold in the crowd. While it was loud I also heard equal cheering when Bulls hit basket as when Pacers hit them. That being said the Chicago fans probably made extra effort to wear lots of red and to be extra obnoxious. 70-30 is still unacceptable to me.
I guess we'll agree to disagree
I sat in the exact same spot I did for the regular season game with the Bulls and it was a far better Pacer crowd.
Pacers had the worst attendance this season. Why wouldn’t there be a lot of Bulls fans? Winning solves that problem people.
I do agree that some fans can ruin an experience though. Glad that hasn’t happened to me…yet.
You are making my point. If we did have the worst attendance it happened while also not having the worst record or being the most boring team to watch. If it was just winning that correlated to attendance then we wouldn’t have the worst attendance in the NBA, plain and simple. But winning isn’t the only factor into attendance(i.e. Chicago Cubs). It is because we are fair-weather fans and because the fans abandoned this team even in the playoffs.
i agree. it will a great when the pacers become contenders again
but it will also be very annoying when all the fair weather fans come out of the woodwork.

You're in a small market and the rival of a big one.
This stuff is inevitable but I can surely understand it being irritating. Given the situation reversed it would drive me nuts. I hope your team continues to improve and this becomes an even bigger rivalry with your fans showing up even more.

Thanks. You are right, we are a small market team but this state has supported it before and could do it now if it wanted to. We easily fill Lucas Oil with the loudest screaming fans every game. The Pacers have fans that will fly in from Japan to watch a game but the people of Indy won’t dish out $20 to walk 15min and support their playoff team. I’m sure real Bulls fans heard the “the Bulls suck now” thing not too long ago also. Its just stupid hyperbole and has no place in a rivalry or real sports fans mouths.
I was there
They really are a classless bunch. No class at all. On another note I’d rather lose than need help from the refs to win. That 4th quarter was a joke. Look at the foul ratio for the 4th absolutely STUPID! We took it to the lane a number of times drew contact and can’t get a whistle. Yet you look at rose the wrong way and you send him to the line. Does it feel good bulls fans winning with a 6th man on the court. Having a fake mvp. Your team is like the patrick ewing lottery RIGGED. Like Jordan betting on his own games pete rose style or I mean his first retirement FAKE. It would make me a little sick to my stoumach to be honest. Living a lie and all.
I really thought a theme of last night's game
was that Indiana was going to foul Rose hard and not let him get layups. Credit to Indiana that they played hard and made this game plan reality, and on the drives he eluded fouls he seemed affected by them anyways and missed shots he normally makes.
But the fouls on Rose were hard fouls and I thought he played through some fouls that weren’t called as well. But the hard fouls were clearly fouls and clearly hard.

I don't know what game this guy was watching.
The refs tried SOOOO hard to give this game to the Pacers but they still couldn’t pull it off. Rose gets fouled a ton that’s not called. Even got hit in the face by Granger on that go-ahead basket. And don’t even get me started on dirty Foster.
I think the proper question is: Are you Pacer fans proud of your flopping and dirty-playing team?
MN: 14
wow. i don't know what game YOU are watching
yes, there were hard fouls on rose, but they weren’t nearly as hard as they were making it out to be. it’s playoff basketball. it was not dirty. the bulls need to sack up and play grown men basketball. and no, we don’t flop. as hard as it may be for you to believe, the bulls actually foul sometimes. i think you listen way too much to that idiot stacey king and all those homer play by play guys on CSN

Fosters foul on Rose and Deng were flagrants 1 or 2.
Playing hard is fine. Playing dirty because you don’t have the talent to match up is understandable but not cool.
Hibbert, Foster and Hansbrough all flopped in the game causing fouls on Deng and Rose. Go back and rewatch.

Yes. Your team might be faster and stronger.. but our team is smarter and tougher.
Heh, yeah, when the team I root for makes aggressive plays

The NBA officiating is by far the worst in all of sports.
I think this is one reason why many people can stand to watch. It is particular upsetting when it seems like it is used for marketing purposes. Helping big market teams win may help revenue short term but a level playing field is much better for the entire NBA’s long term profitablilty. Make the rules less ambiguous and take steps to remove any doubt that the officiating is fair and balanced. Trust me NBA, it will actually help you line your pockets.
how can you say this with a straight face
when the bulls were the clear beneficiaries of the reffing in games 1 and 2? i’ll admit game 3 might have had the calls go more to the pacers, but it was still the most fairly called game of the series yet.

There is kind of a very obvious reason why the Bulls get a lot more foul calls then the Pacers
It’s called Sample size:
Happen to notice something? Oh yeah, the Bulls had 13 more attempts within 9 feet of the rim then the Pacers (44 to 31).
Happen to notice something again? Oh yeah, the Bulls had 14 more attempts within 9 feet of the rim then the Pacers (29 to 43)
Look, the Pacers aren’t going to get calls if they do not drive, not a single person on the Pacers was forcing a ref to call a foul by driving like the way Derrick Rose did. You can go on and on all about how refs favor big markets (not going to argue with you) or that Chicago fans are annoying (not going to argue with you), but the bottom line is, if your team is not driving, you are not getting calls.
Bears. Bulls. White Sox.
MVP MVP MVP
Your honestly bragging about holding Derrick Rose to 23 points (only 2 points below his average) despite all the attention he’s drawing from your team?
The way you guys are playing him, you’d think they were playing Jordan out there.
As far as the refs, dude just stop. Are you honestly watching these games? Your team is hacking the shit out of Rose every time he drives to the damn basket, hell even they admitted it. He actually earns his trips to line unlike other stars. The Pacers haven’t been able to get in front of Rose to take a charge all series (except for this game, twice actually, Foster drew both of em and both were questionable calls)
wow. please don't talk if you can't admit
that the bulls were got the better end of the calls in games 1 and 2. and no, you are wrong about rose. there have been plenty of times where i thought rose should have gotten called for a charge but wasn’t. don’t try to say that he does not get superstar calls. the only game where i thought the pacers really “hacked” rose was in game 3. in games 1 and 2, those were hardly dirty fouls. rose was getting calls every time he got touched in the paint. even so, it’s playoff basketball. the bulls should sack up.

Well it is a good thing the award is called Most Valuable Player award
And not the Most Dominant Player award, cause LeBron would win the offensive award every year, and Dwight the defensive award every year. Also, who would you rather have as your closer? Kobe? Please, he is a chucker first and foremost, just because he makes the last hero shot doesn’t mean we forget the 10 other shots that put him in the hole. I would rather have Melo taking the last shot over just about any player in the league, but I would much rather have the ball in D Rose’s hand to drive/kick it out over any player in the league, because that is something Melo doesn’t do.
Bears. Bulls. White Sox.
Do you know what a charge is?
Do you even know what one looks like? Find me one highlight of Rose’s during this series that was a charge that wasn’t called one. Either your players didn’t have their feet set or Rose just grazed their shoulders and they flopped.
Game 1 and 2 were played in Chicago, they got the majority of the calls I’d agree, but none of those calls had any major impact on the way the game ended. Every foul on Rose was justified, its not like nobody touched him on his way to the basket. In game 1, your team didn’t close the lanes so Rose kept driving and you guys kept fouling. Game 2, you guys did a better job but Rose is Rose and he’s gonna find the lane sooner or later.
Game 3 was played in Indiana, and despite what ever the hell you guys are saying, you guys got the better end of the calls. Boozer not going to the line not even once? You have got to be kidding me.
rose got to the line 21 times, more then the entire pacers team in game 1
so don’t even bring that up.

And attacking Rose’s intelligence…lol what the hell does that gotta do with me, the guy could be dumb ass shit for all I care, still on of the best in the league and is the MVP
and don't you dare insult my intelligence
I’ll gladly put my my intelligence up to yours any day of the week.

rose was getting a foul call any time he waltzed into the lane in game 1
it was honestly like dwyane wade in the 2006 finals. i had neutral observers tell me how many calls rose was getting. the only people who thought all those calls were good were stacey king and the homerific play by play guys over at CSN

A little caveat to that. Have you ever considered this? Indianapolis and the economy didn’t do to well the last part of that decade. Your ultimate fans tend to be blue collar with it’s fair share of white collar as well. Those ticket prices skyrocket. The good fans can’t necessarily afford them. The play gets shitty with a bunch of thugs we, the fan base, didn’t like. When a family has to tighten their belts like so many have had to do in the region, entertainment expenses are the first to go.
One thing also to consider is television coverage. If you don’t remember, the 90’s up until the Pacers got the contract with Fox Sports, the home games were never on television. It was a treat to get home games on the TV. It made going out to MSA more appealing. Add the evolution of the TV from a 27" CRT pussy-wimp to a 60" 1080P LED destroyer-of-worlds with surround sound and rewind-live-TV technology. Some people just flat out can’t afford to go to Pacer games all the time. It’s more efficient to just be sitting in your living room, where the beer is A LOT cheaper and the lines at the bathroom are dependent on whether you got catering from Qdoba or not. You cannot deny the fact that we need dedicated fans, but I don’t want them sacrificing their well-being, their marriage, or future by trying to stay ‘dedicated’ to their team. But the sad truth is that the fan support at Conseco has been very thin. As far as word of mouth goes, most of Indianapolis just sort of repeats what everyone else says without checking it out for themselves. I keep hearing the same bullshit about the brawl. Let it go people. It’s in the past. They are behind the Pacer power curve. Hopefully this playoff series will enlighten them.
That being said. The Pacers have responded with by creating Area 55. However, this was it’s Rookie year and has not had a whole lot of recognition yet. Hopefully we’ll have some prospects next year.
Its all relative
We still fill Lucas Oil despite the economy. The fans of other teams have 60in TVs and they still make it to the game. We removed the thugs a long time ago.
i know other people won't agree
but i personally never really cared that much if they were thugs. i just wanted them to go out there and win every night, or at least try their damned best.

Well this really tells me all I need to know:
“i personally never really cared that much if they were thugs”
Hoping for a well deserved Foster suspension and fine and a deserved Pacer loss in game 4.
MN: 13
Yeah wel
I hope you get suspended from life. NYEH!
Does suspended from life mean a vacation?
‘Cause in that case I think I’d welcome it. ;)
Somewhere warm please? (You’re gonna say Hell, aren’t you?)
MN: 13
Yes, but I am sure we are both biased for our team in foul calling which is highly subjective. That being said, regardless of how this particular game was officiated, I do believe that the officials are supposed to favor superstars and big-market teams and I think this series has been no different.
From my view I saw a lot of dirty off-the-ball contact from the Bulls and very little from the Pacers. While the Pacers may of had some hard fouls on Rose, most of them were called. As a Bulls fan it is probably easy to ignore that the Pacers got their arms slapped on most layups as a Bull sat in the restricted area for the entire possession. But it did happen, over and over. Noah pushes and pushes people all over and doesn’t get the foul call. Rose hand-checks, elbows, and charges consistently. Bulls make no attempt to take charges so Roy gets charging fouls when the defender is deep in the restricted area and Foster get a blocking foul when he is set outside the area. But again, we both are probably a little biased.
I'm telling you, this is Knicks/Pacers of the new millennium
Superstar #1 overall pick, check. Big oaf of a big man that’s unorthodox yet usually effective, check. Huge market vs “heartland of America” market, check. Rampant emotions, check. Rough, physical play, check. Somewhat overlooked 4 man that’s turning heads, check. Young up and coming coach vs old school guy (albeit nowhere near as accomplished), check.
I’m tellin ya. Chicago vs. Indiana is going to be big. BIG I TELLS YA!
KEEP COACH FRANK
lol
Although I hate the dirty play and blatant ref bias in game 3, I have to give you guys credit for the way you played in games 1+2. The intensity on defense was awesome and the Bulls have been sloppy with the ball.
But when you try to tell me that Foster’s fouls on Deng and Rose are not flagrants I really can’t take you seriously.
MN: 13
wow.....
so the bulls NEVER benefit from the refs, and the whenever the refs mess up, it’s always towards the pacers? what a joke

No, generally the Bulls have gotten shafted by refs throughout this year.
Obviously not EVERY call is correct, even in the Bulls favour, but when it comes to Rose I have no problem with him getting some calls. He’s so good at finishing through contact that if anything he doesn’t get enough calls.
And when it’s been the pre-stated strategy of the Pacers to “Check” Rose at the rim, I don’t see how you can complain about him getting calls. He doesn’t get them every time he’s fouled even.
MN: 13
lets clean these comments up a bit yeah?
no problem with some debate, but try and stay civil
KEEP COACH FRANK
Nah, I get it
Spur of the moment urge to defend your franchise and all, we’ve all done the same. Just no need for any of us to get personal.
KEEP COACH FRANK
I could find copies of the game, cut and splice the clips and show the charges with my analysis but that would take too long and wouldn’t change anything. You are biased if you think Rose doesn’t get away with charges and it has happened many times in this series. I am not question his ability or his MVP status but he played a bad game last night and it doesn’t matter if you can do a spin move in mid air, if you make contact with a set player and knock him down, it is a charge.
Y'all need to chill
Bulls fans run their site a little differently than Tom does over here. Bulls fans are loud and obnoxious. Big deal. Let’s all try to be civil, and if we can’t let’s just not respond to one another. This is game thread shit. We don’t normally talk to each other this way over here. I personally have no problem with it (I learned a long time ago that the internet is a great way for people to bash others without having to face any consequences, so why bother getting unruly? It’s not like you can reach through your ethernet cable and kick someone’s ass…) but a lot of folks are taking stuff way too personally, and I gotta tell you, it’s not worth it. Don’t let some internet tough guy talk ruin your day. It’s all fun. It’s all just a game. While I’m sure there are a fair amount of bandwagon jumping Bulls fans, take it from a Colts season ticket holder…it goes both ways. When you’re good you’ll have that. I’ve been a Colts fan since I was a toddler and they just moved here, and I remember being able to walk up to the box office 20 minutes before kickoff and buy tickets. Chicagoans have their history and their tradition, but like any other sports town, there’s going to be some folks who really care and some who are annoying douches. There’s no way to prove who’s who on a blog. There’s no reason to get into this he said/she said childishness. Let it be. Breathe deep. You guys are bumming me out.
Not trying to be holier than thou, just sayin…it’s not worth it.

yeah i guess..
these idiots should be thanking God that they even have rose given that their probability of winning the nba lottery that year was like 3%.
1,7%
But when you are a big market and with a corrupt commissioner like Stern, that number gets rounded up to a 100.07% (I don’t actually believe that, but it wouldn’t surprise me, and every Bulls fan still remembers that hopefully).
Bears. Bulls. White Sox.
League of stars...
John Wall was JUST what the Pacers needed last summer. He would’ve been a perfect fit. The only negative is he would’ve probably saved Jim O’Brien’s job. If corruption in the league really exists, Indiana’s streak of failing to win a top 3 pick is a pretty good indicator of it. Not a conspiracy theorist or anything…

Like Voiss says
every Bulls fan worth their salt knows it was 1.7% (before the Stern adjustment).
And even after the Bulls got the number one pick, a large portion of Bulls fans thought the Bulls would screw it up somehow (ahem … Beasley).

I still don’t think he plays enough D for what we need. Why not Chuck Hayes at half the price (even though he’s half as tall)? He’d be a nice contrast to Tyler at PF, he rebounds almost as well as AV (at least for a 6’6 guy) and he plays great D.

I'd be fine with either
Just think Andy’d be a lot more readily available. Even with the apparent looming Houston rebuild it’s hard to see them letting him go. Cleveland really has no reason at all to keep Varejao.

plus I'd have to get on HoopData and look but this Irish Stout's got me tied to the table
But Andy does have a bit of an offensive game, short little jumpers and whatnot. Hayes is just all putback, going off memory.

This all seems kinda dumb to me.
I thought that was one of the best crowds we’ve had in a long, lonnnnggg time. I can’t understand hating on a fan base because of a few, so no particular hate towards the Bulls fans from me. Maybe it’s because I’m less confrontational. Quite simply most fans are ‘fair weather’ and are only interested in winners I think Heat fans are the penultimate example of ‘fair weather’ fans.
