Hansbrough is the REAL DEAL! (I knew he didn't)

This evening my 12 year old son and I came home from the gym.  My boy went to the den and I began to fix our dinner in the kitchen, about fifteen minutes later he came to me and said dad the Pacers are playing the Bulls on TV. I told him "yeah I know and I am recording it so please do not tell me about the game." He fired back dad I just want to tell you one thing, I said okay but not the score, and to my surprise my son said “DAD I JUST WANTED TO TELL YOU THAT HANSBROUGH IS THE REAL DEAL!” I laughed a little and told him son I already figured that out.

Now here’s the thing my 12 son cares nothing already the Pacers in fact we live in California and I became a Pacers fan only after DC (who I watched play in his youth with my older boys on there travel teams) was traded there. So here’s a 12 year old boy who only two teams in the world he cares about is his own AAU travel team and the Miami Heat because of his idol LeBron James but he could figure out that Tyler Hansbrough in for real. So my question to you fans is how in the world did Coach O’Brien not know. It amazes me that he couldn’t see the kid is special; The sad part is because of JOB I was also fooled but it’s becoming so obvious now that even a 12 year old can see. Thank you so very much Mr. Bird for saving us fans for a full year of JOB’s MADNESS and look what’s happen now we are play well and have a good shot to make the playoffs.

Def. the real deal. He just has unique style of play. also its not just because he plays hard ( he does). Knows how to play and is much more atheletic than he gets credit for.

I think you'll have to admit though.

Shooting 36% from the field and never passing up a shot, would give a coach pause from just handing the job over to an awkward looking, somewhat undersized PF.

What's with you and the way Hansbrough looks?

Also since when is 6’9 250 “undersized”? I mean, it is, sort of, if we’re talking IDEAL size (like I’d love a 7-footer with quick feet, a 20 foot jumper and who is a great passer to backdoor cutters, but those people are very rare). The average PF is around 6’9-6’10 240-260, I’d wager.

6'9" probably is average, but it's also considered undersized.

It wasn’t like Hansbrough really looked like he belonged out there and clearly JOB was in favor of sticking to his guns.

36% is a pathetic percentage for any player, any position, at any stage of his proffesional career. That was the key. I don’t mean he doesn’t dress well or has a funny hair cut when I say awkward, I’m talking about how sloppy he looks on the court. He still does, but now he’s actually figured out a way to use that to his advantage in keeping defenders off balance.

I would say "unorthodox"...other big men who "looked awkward:"

Brian Grant, Dennis Rodman, Rasheed Wallace, Glen Davis, Kevin McHale…

As for the 36%, dude was a rookie with erratic playing time and a long-lasting inner ear problem. As a starter this year (16 games) he’s shooting 52%. I think it’s time to admit last year is not a very valid sample of how efficient of a shooter he is, and also that Jim O’Brien is a horrible coach with no instincts. Anyway, given all the crap this guy put up with from almost universal doubters, I’m shocked he’s even still got any heart left. As far as I’m concerned, he’s been playing with house money since he had his first good game as a Pacer. I thought he’d be a career backup (though to my credit, I wasn’t mad at the pick).

JOB marched to his own drummer...

…and made everyone else try to keep step. Which seemed very hard to do. Few people seemed to understand his system, and it definitely was not designed to showcase someone nicknamed Psycho-T.

What I am waiting for, is for this to take pressure off of Danny, giving him more open looks. I don’t know if it is his recent illness or the quality of the defense, but it hasn’t happened yet. As Tyler gets more double-teams, and as the REAL DEAL he will, Danny should benefit.

Wish we had Duns back. I think he could benefit from Hans’ success as well.

I think Tyler could benefit from Duns as well.

No doubt in my mind Tyler would move with out the ball. And I think Duns could find him for jumpers and in good spots deep in the post.

Loving Hansbrough right now

He’s been playing great recently, and hopefully it’s a sign that he can handle these extended minutes and get into the rhythm of the game and succeed. If he keeps playing like this, it helps out the Pacers summer plans a lot. Also, he’s getting close to 30 a night for dirt cheap, what a great investment for this team.

Hansbrough was recovering from a concussion for much of JOBs tenure...

and also had a bad injury to his shin…
You can see the progression of his game coming back to him throughout this season…he couldn’t have put up these numbers early in the season because he was still shaking the rust off.
