Update: Pacers want Crawford and Gasol
Here is the link: http://www.hoopsworld.com/nba-saturday-pacers-want-crawford-gasol/
We have the cap space to make this happen. Should we, though? I personally would not be a huge fan of signing Crawford. Signing Gasol would also make me question the future of Roy Hibbert in Indiana. The last note of interest in this article is that we remain confident in Tyler Hansbrough at the PF position. We did see good things out of him last year, so hopefully he can impress.
I suppose our roster would look like this:
C: Gasol, Hibbert, Foster
PF: Hansbrough, Gasol, FA (McRoberts, hopefully)
SF: Granger, George
SG: Hill, Crawford, Stephenson
PG: Collison, Hill
Bird has stressed creating a deep team. This would be a very deep roster, but what are your thoughts on it? See any issues that could arise? I would personally like to see more of Paul George, but in this scenario, his minutes could be limited to 20 per night.

Line up is very off
C: Hibbert, Gasol,, Foster
PF: Gasol, Hansbrough, FA (McRoberts, hopefully)
SF: Granger, George
SG: George, Crawford,Hill, Stephenson
PG: Collison, Hill
man that is a pretty naughty lineup one of the stronger ones in the east
I would try
to trade Rush who’s on is still on his rookie scale pay in a sign and trade for the cash strapped Hornets’s Belinelli. Let George start at SG but add 3pt shooting to the team.
If the Pacers can snare Nene, a quality big man rotation (PF & C) is usually 3 players deep anyway, I would take a flyer Yi. Just to get another 7 footer on the roster but he’s never really gotten a proper chance to play his minutes at center in the NBA.
C: Hibbert, (Nene), Yi
PF: Nene, Hansbrough
SF: Granger, Jones, Posey
SG: George, Belinelli, (Jones)
PG: Collison, Price, Stephenson

At least it is right this minute, so I can’t read this story.
I don’t understand how it’s possible to play Hibbert and George off the bench, and I’m not for it. If Crawford and Gasol are coming in, I’d hope that means they don’t mind playing Crawford as a sixth man to give George more time, or that Granger/Hibbert are being traded for some sort of monster stud PF, but I don’t see any out there who are realistically on the block besides Josh Smith, and I don’t really want him.

There, now it works
The source said they’re thinking about signing both and “calling it a day.” The prospect of targeting Marc Gasol for Hibbert in a sign-and-trade is interesting because it means the Pacers could dedicate more money this year AND next to free agents this off-season, because Hibbert was the only big extension coming up for next off-season. If we really believe Gasol is a huge upgrade over Hibbert, offering him a contract in the $10-12 mil a year range and shipping back Hibbert in a sign-and-trade actually will only dedicate $3-5 in future money if we were assuming all along that Hibbert was going to eat up $7 mil a year starting next off-season. The Pacers could do this, and as long as they didn’t spend too much on a guy like Crawford, could still afford to make a move for a big free agent next off-season, OR still have money to extend Hansbrough and Collison the following season.

I like Gasol and not sure about Crawford
We will be deep with him but he cuts into George hill an Paul George’s minutes. If we don’t sign him we have enough for Roy next year

I'm all about getting Gasol, but a sign-and-trade with Hibbert would be dumb.
What, so we can sign him for one more year and at maybe a million or two less a year? It doesn’t make sense. We have cap space, use it. If we want him, make a bid Memphis can’t comfortably match.
As for Crawford, he’s going to get too much money. He just is. And that’s for a guy who wouldn’t be a starter. I’d much rather spend the cash it’d take to get him on someone who could actually start at PF.
While I like Gasol a lot
I agree it’s dumb, really for both sides. I get that they’re trying to be frugal, but if the idea is we send Hibbert to them to keep cost down, if it’s a solid market value contract for Gasol (IMO the same 5/60 range as Horford and Noah) why don’t Memphis keep him themselves? So they can have a year of cheap Roy then do it all again when he’s an RFA next summer? It wouldn’t help their immediate cap enough to make it logical.
For us, we sign Gasol to whatever Memphis won’t match (which apparently is an imaginary number, they’ll allegedly match anything) then put Roy out there as a major piece for a stud. I’m not really in favor of that, I like Gasol but to make Memphis not match you’d have to go into the max range for him and that’s just dumb.
Sup Jello Shot?
Well I guess my point is at least call their bluff on "matching anything."
I think it’s more of a statement to try and get leverage and a sign and trade worked out more than a factual declaration.
They are currently at roughly $55 mil in salary with Zach Randolph’s big recent extension. So they’re very close to the cap. How much is Memphis really willing to shell out in luxury tax? This is Memphis we’re talking about after all.
If we make a bid that’s high for them (but still reasonable for us) and they match it, so be it. It’s no real loss if they decide to keep him. We just move onto other options without sacrificing too much.
I agree with this
If they tell Gasol they’ll “match anything” and scare other teams off then they ask him to play for the qualifier for a year so they can get some contracts off the books, he ought to be pissed. If Bird wants him he should throw a $10 mil/year offer at him and see if the Griz are for real. Worst case you don’t get him. Best case you get him for maybe a few mil more than you ought to pay for him, but only a few mil more than you were eventually going to have to pay Hibbert anyway.

Makes Sense -
Let it fly then, but no to crawford. We can get someone else and for that matter we have a good nucleous at the Guards that will loose playing time to Crawford who will jack up half court 3’s and play very little “D”
