Finally, Howard to Nets???????????
"If a report late Monday proves to be true, Dwight Howard could finally find his way out of Orlando.
According to John Ireland of ESPN Radio 710, superstar center for the Orlando Magic could be a member of the New Jersey Nets as early as Tuesday. Ireland's tip came from a source who accurately predicted last summer that LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh would end up on the Miami Heat together.
Howard had told Magic GM Otis Smith before the start of training camp that he wanted out of Orlando, with New Jersey listed as his destination of choice, ahead of the Los Angeles Lakers and the Dallas Mavericks. A move to New Jersey would allow Howard to team up with fellow All-Star Deron Williams and serve as the face of the franchise as it prepares to relocate to Brooklyn in time for the 2012-13 season.
The Nets figure to send a package including young center Brook Lopez and a bevy of draft picks back to the Magic in exchange for Howard."

If this is true,
how will this affect our Pacers? Will we still have a lesser chance to finish top 4 in the east? Miami will probably get #1 and Chicago and NY will battle for 2 although I am still hoping we will battle the Bulls for the Central to get a better seed come post season.
Should Howard team up with Deron Williams, will we be relegated to battle for 5th or 6th seed behind the heat, bulls, knicks, nets and celtics?
As much as I believe we can be better than the bulls and knicks this season and the nets need to beef up their bench, let’s face it, our boys have not had much time playing together so chemistry can still be an issue not to mention health.
What do you guys think?
Standings
It’s not exactly the subject but : I don’t see why everybody is thinking the Knicks are gonna be that good this year.
I mean, they have 2 all stars, ok, a good defensive injury prone center with no offensive game in a offense oriented system, and that’s it ! the bench is really really bad, PGs are old and done. and the SG is a 2nd year.
Maybe I know nothing about basketball but losing Billups for Chandler is not a move that will turn a not so good team to elite.
Agree
But I think they can win their division, meaning they’ll get no worse than a #4 seed. The Celtics, in my opinion, are going to crumble into a slightly above average team. Their deterioration was evident in the playoffs last year, and they’ve done nothing to improve (in fact their depth is getting worse, with Jeff Green out for the year).

Well...
The Nets would be improved but the Magic get worse… much worse. I think we could still conceivably get the 4th seed, I’m not really sold on the Knicks.
Honestly, I don’t think this changes a whole lot in terms of seeding. The Nets really have a pretty lame team as is, I like Dwight Howard and Derron Williams as much as the next guy. But the lack of depth on that team could prove costly throughout this condensed season. Howard and Williams can only score so much. Marshon Brooks will have to step up big for them.

I think Marshon probably have to go along with the package
the nets have Lopez and Marshon as chips and that’s it, they’re whole team is full of crap.

Magic should ask for Marshon too, but...
This is Otis Smith we’re talking about here.

he can't be that dumb
those picks won’t even be lottery picks given how much Howard and Williams will single handedly turn them into a playoff team.

I never underestimate how dumb a person can truly be.

I'm not so sure this trade will go down
it doesn’t make sense for Orlando, Jersey just doesn’t have enough pieces to give orlando. How many picks are we talking about? 3?4?5? I’m not buying this story.

If true this is awesome
The Nets were already a contender for the 8 seed. But if they gut their team, they won’t have enough time to fill the holes with cheap vets who want a title like the Celtics and Heat have over the past two off-seasons. So essentially they’ll be left with Williams and Howard. That’s great, but their depth will shot, and they won’t have a chance to grab a great value at a low-ball MLE offer until next year. So for now, they’re going to be gassed, and possibly devoid of chemistry, well into spring. I still see them as no better than a 6 or 7 seed. Meanwhile, the Magic will be terrible. Brook Lopez is no good. Combine him with the rest of the craptacular contracts in Orlando, and besides the youngsters/picks they’ll get in this deal, the team will be pretty hamstrung for the near-future as well. This puts us squarely in contention with the Knicks and Hawks for a 4-5 seed. If Boston deteriorates like we all think they will, the Pacers will have a shot at the 4…

I think with or without the trade Pacers are already better overall than the Magics
Orlando’s team chemistry is already seriously mess up, forget Howard for a second, that team has serious holes up and down that team, plus they didn’t get anyone this off season. The hawks lost their main bench guy in Crawford, The Pacers are already 4 or 5 as we speak. I doubt Amare’s going to hold up by the time we get to next season, the way his knees were forcing him to sit through the playoffs last year and he’s already talking about resting days before season even begans.
