Around SBN: Where Do The Lakers Go From Here?

Various sources reporting on Twitter that the Grizzlies have decided against trading their guard O.J. Mayo to the Indiana Pacers in a sign-and-trade that would have involved Josh McRoberts. Thanks to The Dawson for breaking it here.

Well...

At least now we know. Let’s go get Michael Redd or Jamal Crawford…

by Ejay Lawyer on Dec 13, 2011 1:38 PM EST reply actions

No thanks....

We already have better options than Redd or Crawford on the roster. Redd won’t stay healthy. You already are taking a chance on David West staying healthy. Crawford will affect team chemistry negatively in that he will only be brought in to score and wont want to work hard enough to play defense. I’d rather have Dahntay who may be limited offensively, but works his butt off. Chemistry is incredibly important to what they are building here. Don’t waste money on a second of third choice just because you have money to spend. Save it for someone you really want to acquire that will be the answer long term.

Agreed

And actually aside from this season your not taking that big a risk on David West if your the Pacers. His contract can be bought out this season to make a splash next season in free agency. Plus 10 mill is a bargain for West anyways. And just for the record even tough I don’t want him to be a Pacer, I’d rather have Jamal Crawford then Dahntay Jones. Dahntay Jones is a classic Duke the poop that makes you wanna puke bust.

well am not hurt!!

Why don’t we just keep Jmac?? We already have a lot of combo guards.

by the pac on Dec 13, 2011 1:58 PM EST via mobile reply actions

JMac just signed with the Hell.A. Lakers according to Sporting News

Now everyone wants to know what the Hell.A. Lakers are going to do with Odom since the Magic may ink Howard long-term or trade him to the Nets and lets just face the facts no one in their right mind is going to match the Clippers trade offer for CP3 since they just threw Gordon back in the mix.

I think the Lakers was the best choice for McBob. He should fill the Odom roll quite nicely.

Pacers need to add a defensive specialist....

Under JOB, the Pacers lacked a defensive identity and tried to outscore the other team. We saw how that turned out. The best thing the Pacers could do at this point is bring in a player who provides leadership and sets the example for the rest of the team in terms of work ethic on the defensive end. This needs to be a shot blocking big man who can discourage Lebron, DWade, and Derrick Rose from driving into the lane for fear they are either going to get their shot blocked or fouled hard. Don’t worry about outscoring the other team. Defense wins championships.

Seriously, again!

F*ck. Their GM likes toying with the Pacers.

He's an idiot anyways

He was actually dumb enough to take by far the worst trade of the decade when he traded away Pau Gasol, at least Bird isn’t that stupid that’s why he doesn’t do business with the Hell.A. Lakers.

I’m fine with our guards. Seriously, we need to max playing time for DC, Lance, PG and Hill.

Let’s get another backup PF/C and call it a day.

defensive specialist ?

What like dahntay jones? I think jones & george are better defensively than any of the 2 guards left out there

by GrangerSCK33 on Dec 13, 2011 2:05 PM EST via mobile reply actions

Well

I will be happy going forward with what we have but feel bad for JMac. He will likely just sign elsewhere.

by Ejay Lawyer on Dec 13, 2011 2:34 PM EST reply actions

Psh

You shouldn’t. He’s signing with the Lakers. Although, to me that isn’t a must go to location. I’d rather be in Indiana :)

by The_Dawson on Dec 13, 2011 2:38 PM EST up reply actions

Agreed

But serously, their is one thing I feel sorry for JMac about with his new signing and that’s putting up with the Hell.A. Lakers drama queen rapist SG in Kobe Bryant. Oh well things could be worst, McRob could be signing with a stolen team from Detroit and their convict fans. And look on the bright side now that McRob is a Hell.A. Laker Odom could be shown the door,

by PatsR18andDONEwithoutCHEATING on Dec 13, 2011 3:22 PM EST up reply actions

McRoberts now officially a Hell.A. Laker

Josh McRoberts has now officially signed with the Lakers according to Sporting News. Deal not officially announced. Oh well, we prolly couldn’t have got much out of him in a sign and trade anyways. Either way it should be interesting to see what happens with Lamar Odom, since the Lakers likely WILL NOT get Dwight Howard or CP3. The League doesn’t want the Lakers to have Howard and their is now way in hell the Lakers can match the Clippers new offer of Minnesota’s first round pick which is also unprotected, Eric Gordon, Chris Kaman, Al-Faruow Aminum, and Eric Bledso. Plus now the Nets could be offering the Magic Nene, Brook Lopez, and 2 first round picks for Dwight Howard. Yep looks like the Hell.A. Lakers are the past and the L.A. Clippers could be the future team in L.A.

Theory

The Second Brandon Rush gets mentioned in a Trade, said Trade dies. Seems like solid logic to me

When Bynum takes his yearly injury vaction the Lakers are so screwed . . . .

Pacers offer Jamal Crawford 2 year $10 million

Marc Stein reporting for ESPN. No word on whether Crawford has accepted or rejected…

by Ejay Lawyer on Dec 13, 2011 3:41 PM EST reply actions

wow

now that’s sly larry bird. You playing hard and smart.
Wether he singns or not i like that deal, take it or leave it Jamal.
Not many seemed interested here in David West(me included) till larry singed him for 2 years $20 mil. I was not interested in Crawford but i’ll take him for that price any time of the day. Go Larry!
F.A. Is not deep this year but the amount of teams with money and/or quality management are not overwhelming either and larry seems to be showing them the ropes. Yes!

by bibb on Dec 13, 2011 4:07 PM EST up reply actions

hey guys, lakers fan here with a question.

wanted your honest thoughts on mcroberts. from the few pacers games i’ve seen, mcroberts seems like a solid pick-and-pop with 3PT range, pretty good ballhandler and passer, and a player who at least tries hard on defense and can play some center. seems like a solid rotation player for years to come to me.

is that a fair description of who he is? or does he have the potential, in your opinions, to be something even better?

thanks!

Slava.

Sure. . .

Excelent ball handling skills for his position, always helped to break a press
Good Passer
Good at the Rim
Can shoot 3’s but I don’t think you want him to take to many
Great Attitude and team player

Get’s used by stronger PF
Liability on D
Next to Bynum that may not be as noticable as it was next to Roy Hibbert.

If we didn’t have Tyler Hans . . . for cheap . . . we prob would have found a way to keep him. . .

Have you seen how Kobe's reacting to this deal

http://espn.go.com/los-angeles/nba/story/_/id/7341952/los-angeles-lakers-lamar-odom-dealt-dallas-mavericks-asking-trade

Oh well, that’s what happens when your team is facing a 45 million dollar luxery tax penalty in future seasons that could be raised to 65 million if your repeat offenders for 4 seasons. Plus a revenue sharing plan allowing you not to receive most you yearly income of 200 mill from time warner cable. Face the facts the NBA isn’t a corporate culture any more, teams like the Lakers simply cannot dominate everything any more like they have this past decade.

by PatsR18andDONEwithoutCHEATING on Dec 13, 2011 4:56 PM EST up reply actions

A more pessimistic view point...

- above average passer
- Can shoot the three but I can’t think of a single time where I WANTED him too. It was one of those situations where I was like… NOOOOOO and then it would go in. I can’t remember his threes coming off pick and rolls though. He would just spot up from memory
- above average ball handler but no Lamar Odom or anything.
- very average around the rim unless it was a dunk
- good leaping ability and will get out on the break
- From memory, it seemed like it was a dunk or a 3 pointer whenever he made a shot
- shitty defender
- weak physically and gets bullied around
- below average rebounder
- too short and too weak to play center

He has gotten better every year. He is a solid back up #4, but he would have been 3rd string for us. If he is starting for your team, your team is average or absolutely stacked. Probably average.

Good!

I think I would rather give Lance more minutes than see Crawford here and save 5-10 Million. I also hope Bird never gives up his pursuit of Mayo

by Shrilly Ray on Dec 13, 2011 6:45 PM EST reply actions

Good Minnesota or Portland can have that Stephen "Just Shoot Me" Jackson clone

I’d rather get back and New Orleans if they make the CP3 trade for what they did to us after we traded for Peja Stojakovic. The David West signing just isn’t the same thing.

http://espn.go.com/nba/story/_/id/7345461/new-orleans-hornets-chris-paul-los-angeles-clippers-trade-dies-price-too-high-sources-say

There’s a few good one and dones in terms of contracts that expire who may not want to play for the Hornets, the Pacers could steal from the Hornets just like they stole Peja Stojakovic from us a year after we traded Ron “Rappin Ron” Artest for him.
