What we should do as of now. Agree?

I've been thinking really hard about a lot of options we could pursue. There are many possibilities here, and many different roster line-ups we could come up with. But in my opinion, this could be the golden roster, and the best possible scenario over-all.

1. Make trade for Mayo
2.Trade Brandon Rush and 2nd round pick to anyone, for ANYTHING
3. Amnesty James Posey
4. Waive A.J. Price
5. Sign Carl Landry and Hilton Armstrong
6. Sign Michael Redd(preferred 1 year deal so he can prove his worth to the league)

The reason we trade brandon rush and amnesty James Posey will merely be for roster space, and a little more cap room to pick up Landry and Redd. At the same time, we get a decent sized center in Hilton Armstrong who could be a nice back-up in case one of our centers goes out with an injury.

If we went through with this, our line-up would look like:

Collison / Hill / Stephenson
Mayo / George / Redd / Hill / Stephenson / Jones
Granger / George / Jones / Redd
West / Hansbrough / Landry / Pendergraph
Hibbert / Foster / Armstrong

Our roster would be set at 15 with this line-up. Obviously some concerns are apparent, including the fact that we’d be short at the SF position, which could put a damper on our defensive abilities towards players like Lebron James, Melo, and Kevin Durant who all play at that position. Never the less, I still think we’d perform excellent with this line-up. Let's not forget, that by waiving price, we would be giving lance a little more room to improve, especially at the point guard position. Larry has faith in him, so it's time to put him out their on the court to see how he reacts.

What do you guys think? Is this a reasonable roster that you would like to have? Or more realistically, is it a roster that we have a chance to attain?

Landry would be superfluous at this point.

No need for him when we just signed West for 10 million and have hansbrough on the roster. Redd is pointless as well, he’d just add to an already overloaded glut of guards. Don’t care much for Hilton Armstrong. Prefer a rookie free agent or Kwame Brown. Should probably keep Price because the point guards on the market aren’t all that great and he would just be a insurance policy if there is an injury.

1. DC
2. Hill
3. PG
4. DG
5. Hibbert
6. Foster
7. Stephenson
8. Jones
9. Mayo
10. Pendergraph
11. West
12. Hansbrough
13. Price
14. Greg Smith
15. Rush (he just won’t go away)

This is what I figure will happen

I’m actually good with not even going after Mayo, but whatever. Greg Smith, or someone like him, makes the most sense to round out our roster. I assume the Pacers will try to deal Rush and Posey, and will eventually find a taker for Rush, even if it’s just for a conditional second rounder. Posey will either be amnestied or bought out. If there are more undrafted guys we could use to fill their roster spots, I’m open to that. But I don’t think there’s any point to adding any more legit depth, nor do I think real free agent vets would be interested in being a third-stringer here.

Core=DC/PG/DG/Hans/West/Hibbert/Hill/Foster and possibly Mayo
Insurance Policies/Matchup Plays=Jones/Stephenson/Price
Practice Dummies=Pendergraph/Smith/Some other dude, or hell, no one and we just roll with 14

we can always go get Mayo during the season if things do go quite as planned. Is Greg Smith even in our camp right now? I do like his upside as a back up and potentially filling in once David West’c contract runs out. It’s funny how we should already start planning for West’s replacement although we just signed him yesterday.

I don't think Greg Smith is an option

He’s already signed a make-good offer with the Rockets. I’ve heard a few people mention that Kwame may end up being expensive, so I’m not sure he’s a realistic option for Indy, especially as a third option at C. We may not like him, but someone like Hilton Armstrong is probably more reasonable, or as you said, an undrafted FA.

Landry

Larry bird has said many times that he wants the best bench in the league. Signing landry would help him achieve that goal. a PF duo of landry and hansbrough, plus a guy who can come off the bench and provide needed 3’s for us is a plus in my opinion. We could probably get him for a cheap 1 year deal since he’s coming off a huge injury. Last year that was dunleaveys job come off the bench and hit 3’s. I think Redd would do a much better job than dunleavy ever did. Plus we need a full on shooter out there. Most of our guys are athletic combo guards with a mid range game

I mean

I like Mayo and he had his times last season, but if we decide NOT to go after him that would be OK. Who knows, Lance may blow up this year. However, I’d take a shot at another big like Kwame as I started lobbying for him on Friday and it looks like alot of Cornrow fans want him as a back up Center.

I say we trade for Mayo.

Mayo this season especially, there are minutes to go around. 3 games in three nights. Depth is the key and Larry and Vogel know this.

I also say that we dont go after another big unless we dump posey and Rush for them. I like the Greg Smith idea.

DC/ Hill/ Price
Mayo/ Lance/ Jones
Granger/ George
West/ Hansborough/ Pendengraph
Hibbert/ Foster/ Smith

That is a solid team with Depth coming out of its ears. Love it. Mayo would be huge for this team. Starting unit of DC, Mayo, Granger, West, Hibbert. Scoring Machine. Second unit of Hill, Jones, George, Hansborough, Foster – thats a defensive machine. Lance where you need him, and pendengraph for added athletism. Wow! a full team that will be fun to watch.

Mayo won't be a difference maker

going 11-12 deep is a terrible idea no matter how bad the schedule is. If you go that deep, nobody is going to have any flow to their game. Should we go 10 deep? yes, absoluetly, but 11-12 is just too much of a stretch.

by latrell spreewel on Dec 12, 2011 12:03 PM EST up reply actions

I’m down with Kwame.

We don’t need Greg Smith, since we have Pendergraph. Looks like he’s signed elsewhere anyhow.

And it's now my sig

J.O. for Posey and Rush

Let Jermaine finish out his last year as a pacer. He can back up Foster and or Pendegraph and just be here for when ever he is needed. They want to get rid of him, let them.

NO TO MAYO..

Only because of this….it sounds like the Clips are the frontrunner for Chris Paul. I just read on ESPN that Eric Gordon IS part of the deal to NO! I think that truly enhances our chances on landing EJ – which I’m a huge fan of! Here’s the link:

http://espn.go.com/los-angeles/nba/story/_/id/7342778/if-no-new-york-knicks-los-angeles-lakers-chris-paul-wants-los-angeles-clippers

Not unless Mayo is trade bait for NOLA, I’d rather stick with what we have with our guards and wings…and wait to add Gordon – however it needs to be done! Maybe some others can comment on IF the trade goes down…how can we land Gordon because NO should know he won’t sign an extension there

Mayo has one year left on his deal, EJ one year left on his deal....

What is the problem. either resign Mayo, or sign and trade for him with Mayo? I dont see a problem with getting extra talent for a first rounder?

by jhadley86 on Dec 12, 2011 11:51 AM EST up reply actions

gotcha..

I wasn’t sure how many years Mayo has left on his contract…I mean I like Mayo, but I just want to get EJ anyway we can!

by BringbackReggie#31 on Dec 12, 2011 11:59 AM EST up reply actions

The deal I read was a sign & trade McRoberts for Mayo & we throw in Rush

who I would throw in for a warm 6 pack – Mayo for FREE! Not a bad deal!

by Rick Z on Dec 12, 2011 11:51 AM EST reply actions

I haven't heard that

If that’s the case I’d say no. I don’t like Mayo enough to even sign him, let alone give up any future assets for him. I hope Bird feels the same way. George Hill gives us leverage at the backup combo guard spot, so we don’t NEED Mayo like he may have felt we did at the deadline last year. We do need a “shot creator,” but I don’t even know if he is much of one. Shoots a lot, doesn’t shoot well. The best thing about him is that he’s cheaper and has fewer years than we’d have to sign Crawford for.

I didn’t think this would happen because one of the only reasons the grizz are doing this trade is because they have too many guards…so why take on rush?

I assume a 3rd team'll get involved

Flip Rush wherever for a 2019 2nd rounder or something

Rush

Is holding up the deal though. Memphis has our problem, logjam at the guard spots. Doubt Rush gets thrown in to be honest. We should amnesty Rush, and try to trade Posey and Jones. Those two together would be easier to move than Rush alone.

by The_Dawson on Dec 12, 2011 11:55 AM EST up reply actions

you don't amnesty a dude making 3 million

you just waive him. i don’t understand why so many people are acting like Rush is some toxic influence. he just isn’t very good, it’s not like he’s shooting up strip clubs.

it was over a year ago, how long are you gonna hold that against him?

I’m not advocating keeping the guy or defending him. I’m just saying this constant Rush must be moved! stance doesn’t make any sense

I get that

But let’s face it, he isn’t the best character on their. To each his own, and you do whatever, but he’s a public figure. He’s supposed to be a role model. Plus, he sucks like you said. This team is winners only from here on out. Ship him. He’s not toxic no, but he makes me sick when he’s playing.

by The_Dawson on Dec 12, 2011 12:29 PM EST up reply actions

I know, I'm fine with that

I’d rather him be moved for whatever than kept as well. But if he’s a Pacer on December 26th I’m not really going to care one way or the other.

Makes two of us

When it comes down to it. Even if he is a Pacer, it’s a numbers game, and he’ll get placed on the IR eventually. I see JP doing some good things here.

To be fair...

Mayo failed a drug test too, less than a year ago, and we’re talking about trading for him.

Mayo’s was steroid precursors (also known as supplements), Rush’s was weed. I don’t care about either one really, but they were different

Good call

Me either. On a basketball standpoint, I’d rather have Mayo. Huge upgrade in my eyes.

Mayo aslo got into a fist fight with Tony Allen over gambling debts. Also has been a pain in the ass to the memphis management, it’s not like Mayo is an angel either.

by latrell spreewel on Dec 12, 2011 5:54 PM EST up reply actions

We should just do the deal without him

It’s not like we’re going over the cap by keeping Rush. I WOULD NOT throw in a first round pick though. Mcbobs and a 2nd rounder would be fine.

Michael Redd will be trying to prove to the league that he’s still a “star”. We don’t need that. We need Chemistry building additions only.
