Now that we have West,

how does Indy fare up against the other Central Division teams? What seed are we going to get in the East? Granting that we get another center like Kwame Brown or any third stringer center who can back up Roy Hibbert and Jeff Foster, what are the chances that we will do a lot of damage in the east?

As of the moment, I think our line-up would look like this:

Collison / Hill / Price / Lance

George / Hill / Rush / D. Jones / Lance

Granger / George / Posey

West / Hansbrough / Pendergraph / Posey

Hibbert / Foster / Kwame or another 3rd stringer

In my opinion, that would make some noise. Just not sure how loud that noise would be. Hopefully, loud enough to get us to the East Finals.

Collison Chalmers Rondo Rose

George Wade Allen Evans

Granger VS. James or VS. Pierce or Vs. Deng

West Bosh Garnett Boozer

Hibbert Anthony J. O. Noah

Bench:

Hill / Hansbrough / Battier / Miller / Green / Bass / Korver / Gibson

hopefully, lance is above price…at least eventually. That is, unless he beats more women…

Seriously, what is it with people on this web site

There is something in this country called innocent until proven guilty. Furthermore, the damn charges were dropped; he wasn’t even tried so there didn’t even have to be a presumption of innocence. He’s certainly no choir boy, but who are all the angels on this site who feel free to pass judgement on a guy about a case for which he was never tried?. Get over your purity; it’s bloody annoying.

OJ would like to have a word with you.

In all seriousness, I don’t think Lance was guilty from the start.

In case it wasn't obvious.

I think

It gives a good shot to win the Central Division, as long as West returns to pre-injury form. The Bulls are obviously the team to beat right now, so let’s compare starting line-ups.

Collison v Rose
Ok, obviously Rose has the huge advantage here, no need to talk it over at all.

Advantage-Bulls

George v Evans
Even without growth, i believe George to be the better of the 2, then you add his expected growth from year 1 to 2, then

Advantage-Pacers

Granger v Deng
This is a fairly close one, and i may be biased, but i’d have to give it to Granger. Deng is better defensively(though maybe by less, depending on how much effort Granger puts on the defensive end this year, now that he wont be our only scoring option), but Granger is a legitmate 20ppg scorer, a player that defenses HAVE to key on. Also, everything points to Granger going back to his all-star year form, as he has put it a TON of effort this past offseason…well, for him.

Advantage-Pacers

West v Boozer
Before, with Hansbrough starting, Boozer obviously had the advantage. But now with West, assuming he returns to pre-injury form, i believe we have our own, better, version of Boozer. An 18-8 guy, slightly less than Boozer’s 20-10, but he plays better defense(not saying much, as Boozer doesnt play defense). Plus, he doesnt go into hibernation in the playoffs.

Advantage-Pacers

Hibbert v Noah
Even though i fully expect Hibbert to continue to improve, i just cant put him on Noah’s level yet. Noah is an anchor defensively, a great rebounder, and his offense isnt too bad either.

Advantage-Bulls

That gives the Pacers a 3-2, positional advantage. This is without even taking into account the bench, which the Pacers have one of the deepest benches in the NBA, and that will hopefully only improve as free agency continues. So i fully expect the Pacers to be a contender in the Central division, and as such, the Eastern Conference this year.

It could just be my homerism speaking in that entire post. :D

Coach...Bench...fact that the Bulls are used to winning?

I think those all deserve categories, right? If it were as simple as whose starters were better then whose, wouldn’t Miami have won it pretty easily last year?

Thibs is good, but not sure it's that huge a difference from Vogel

As for the bench, I’d be willing to say the Pacers may have an advantage there as well. Rose is obviously phenominal, but seeing the lineups stack up makes me feel a lot better about this team.

by bigdawg9292 on Dec 12, 2011 9:08 AM EST up reply actions

i think the bulls could be had.

granger was right before. shut down rose (very difficult) and you shut down the bulls. now that we have george and hill to alternate on rose, we have a better chance at beating them.

ny has good starters but not a deep bench. plus, anthony and amare are known chokers. tyson does not have an offensive game other than an alley oop.

it’s the heat and the savvy celtice that worry me. heat have the tools now with battier and if they get a good center, it’s going to be more difficult than before. celtics are too experienced especially in the post season.

by denggoy7 on Dec 12, 2011 9:26 AM EST up reply actions

Guys...

We won once in five. I know some games were close, but that’s probably just as much a product of them overlooking us then us “matching up well,” or whatever. Let’s get a better seed than #8, and then we’ll talk about who we can beat. I’m not saying the team isn’t capable of big things, but the Bulls were the winningest team in the league last year for a reason.

thank you very much

finally, an answer or opinion to my post and not some….well, something entirely unrelated

by denggoy7 on Dec 12, 2011 8:23 AM EST reply actions

I think we would rank...

5th in the Eastern conference. 4th, depending on who else we pick up in a trade or free agency. So my Eastern Conference power ranking would look like this.

1. Miami Heat
2. Chicago Bulls
3. New York Knicks
4. Boston Celtics
5. Indiana Pacers
6. Atlanta Hawks
7. Orlando [Depending on Dwight Howard trade]
8. Milwaukee Bucks

by naptowngreat on Dec 12, 2011 8:39 AM EST reply actions

We could even be as high as #3..

With the season set up the way it is, Boston and New York may have trouble playing strong through the season. Boston’s really old, New York’s counting on Amare staying healthy and productive. Neither team has much depth. If there’s a team that benefits from such a rugged schedule, it’s the Pacers.

I can’t believe I’m saying this, and a lot would need to go right, but the Blue and Gold could get home court advantage for the 1st round of the playoffs… Sweet.

not unless we beat the bulls for the division.

Or did that change in the cba?

giving knicks way too much credit, they got swept out of the playoffs

the Celtics are old. Hawks have serious turmoil on their team. I think we can be the anywhere from 3rd to 5th. Plus don’t sleep on the Nets, they might have a say in the east.

by latrell spreewel on Dec 12, 2011 11:06 AM EST up reply actions

i prefer to play the bulls

mail=nly because we have a better chance against them than boston or miami. as for ny, see my opinion above

by denggoy7 on Dec 12, 2011 9:28 AM EST up reply actions

i meant

mainly because we have a better chance against them than we do against boston or miami

by denggoy7 on Dec 12, 2011 9:29 AM EST up reply actions

i think we're better than NY.

they may have good starters especially anthony, amare and t. chandler but their bench is not better than ours.

by denggoy7 on Dec 12, 2011 8:50 AM EST reply actions

Yeah

I feel the same. I think we can mess around and get 3rd, because we upgraded so much. And we aren’t done.

by The_Dawson on Dec 12, 2011 10:30 AM EST up reply actions

Chandler has zero offense, Hibbert is better than Chandler

Amare’s and Melo’s defense are very questionable. They have no point guard at this point after waving Billups. Pacers are definitely better.

by latrell spreewel on Dec 12, 2011 11:03 AM EST up reply actions

Don't agree

Just because a guy may have more all-around skills doesn’t automatically make him better. Chandler is such a a good defender it often makes up for his deficiencies. You can’t say that about any aspect of Roy’s game because he spends so much time being so darn inconsistent. Chandler’s problem has been and always will be health. I’d take Hibbert over Chandler right now because he’s cheaper, and hopefully still improving, but putting those things aside, if you’re asking me strictly who the better player is, I’d give the nod to Chandler. He’s far more consistent, and so effective on one side of the ball, he often changes the nature of games.

by Glenn A. on Dec 12, 2011 11:34 AM EST up reply actions

Totally agree

However, I think Big Roy finally has his break out year.

by The_Dawson on Dec 12, 2011 11:37 AM EST up reply actions

what we should do as of now

1. Make trade for Mayo
2.Trade Brandon Rush and 2nd round pick to anyone, for ANYTHING
3. Amnesty James Posey
4. Waive A.J. Price
5. Sign Carl Landry and Hilton Armstrong
6. Sign Michael Redd(preferred 1 year deal so he can prove his worth to the league)

The reason why we trade brandon rush and amnesty James Posey will be merely for roster space, and a little more cap room to pick up Landry and Redd. At the same time, we get a decent sized center in Hilton Armstrong who could be a nice back-up in case one of our centers goes out with an injury.

If we went through with this, our line-up would look like:

Collison / Hill / Stephenson
Mayo / George / Redd / Hill / Stephenson / Jones
Granger / George / Jones / Redd
West / Hansbrough / Landry / Pendergraph
Hibbert / Foster / Armstrong

Our roster would be set at 15 with this line-up. Obviously some concerns are apparent, including the fact that we’d be short at the SF position, which could put a damper on our defensive abilities towards players like Lebron James, Melo, and Kevin Durant who all play at that position. Never the less, I still think we’d be able to put up pretty good fights and become an incredibly good team with these type of players

by pacers4life on Dec 12, 2011 9:54 AM EST reply actions

Lineups are sexy to talk about, but winning is about all about collective team effort

the biggest question is can this young team sustain the effort through the entire team from starters to the bench through times good and times bad. How will Vogel and Braian Shaw with the rest of the coaching staff implement their offense and defense, and will it eb an effective system. How good can this team be on defense as a unit. Those questions will decide the Pacer’s success more than individual success.

by latrell spreewel on Dec 12, 2011 11:11 AM EST reply actions

I would rather

we pickup McRoberts than Landry. Signing Redd for a year would be a great move..
