Around SBN: Seahawks Trade for TE Kellen Winslow

While you were sleeping

If you didn't stay up to watch Lamont Peterson win a questionable decision against Amir Khan (decision aside it was a great fight) you may not see this until the morning. Normally I'd put this in the rosterbation, but I reckoned it was a big enough deal to put in a fanpost

Stein is now reporting that the Lakers have pulled out of the Chris Paul trade saga and are focusing their efforts on landing Dwight Howard, which is the far smarter move in my opinion. In addition, they have dealt the disgruntled Lamar Odom to Dallas for what sounds like nothing. The link is pasted below.

http://espn.go.com/los-angeles/nba/story/_/id/7340640/los-angeles-lakers-pull-trade-talks-chris-paul-according-sources

It will be interesting to see if Paul to the Celtics is revived and if we could get in on it and if the league would give it the ok. Probably not promising because the last reports were that NOLA would take Rondo instead of our players. That being said, the guys the Celtics have recently acquired and could conceivable be part of the deal - Bass and Jeff Green - can't be traded right now.

Should be fun to see what happens and here's the prediction we don't get Rondo (which is a complete reverse jinx)

Clippers are the front runner

Stein has tweeted:

Sources close to the situation tell ESPN that Clippers have emerged as “early frontrunner” to acquire CP3 now that Lakers out of running.

Apparently they can have Paul if they give up Gordon. Don’t see us getting anything out of this.

Until next year when Gordon demands out of NOLA...

…And we use all the money we save this year to sign him outright. Sometime in the mean time we clear out a starting roster space by trading Granger for a PF upgrade and move PG to his natural position.

LA to ship its attention to Dwight Howard

Pretty sure Orlando will demand young assets and draft picks from LA which the Lakers do not have right now. Can the Pacers be that third team to facilitate the trade?

I’m afraid with the CP3 to LA talks broke down, Boston will again try to get the Pacers involve in a three team deal with NOH with us getting Rondo that will cost us our young assets and 2012 first rounder. Rumor has it that we have to give up Collison and Hibbert and we end up with Rondo.

Which three team deal would be better for Indy?

celtiics -pacers trade ain't happening

why would the Pacers give up hibbert now when there’s absolutely no one else to place the center position.

by latrell spreewel on Dec 11, 2011 2:53 AM EST up reply actions

Link to the rumor involving Hibbert?

If that’s true, then either trade sucks. I don’t see that Orlando or the Lakers have anything we could possibly want. I would’ve been in favor of helping out to get Bass, but that ship has sailed.

The only reason I could see the Pacers helping out an Orlando-Lakers deal is that it would knock Orlando out of the playoffs, keep the Nets weak, and send Howard to the Western Conf. Nevertheless, who would we want from either of those teams? Maybe Jameer? Don’t see it.

Just saw it on twitter.

I’m thinking of Bynum to ORL, Gasol to Indy as part of the three team trade. Then we’ll get a chance to attract free agents to come here in Indy. I would prefer the younger Gasol, though.

One that doesn’t include Collission or Hibbert..

I don't understand them moving Odom

At all. The trade exception isn’t big enough for any of the crap deals Orlando wants to dump in a Howard trade. Just really, really weird.

I think the bigger question is

What is the future of the Kardashian’s now with Odom no longer being a Laker?

(Ponders)

They just didn’t want to deal with the fall out from him knowing they almost traded him for Paul. Already skipped out on the first 2 practices.

Trades announced before they are official is a problem that must be addressed.
If the deal eventually falls apart (or is "blocked), the teams involved are usually left with players that are both Disgruntled and Devalued.

Fortunately the Lakers were the one of the victims!

I agree with you Indypacers

Odom for the trade exception is very strange and to Dallas of all places. I almost think Lamar had to piss mangement off after the Paul trade did not go through. I will tell you this the NBA is looking more and more like a freaking CIRCUS!

didn't Odom commit one of the flagrants against Dallas last year in the playoffs?

The Bynum clothesline move sticks in our memory the most, but IIRC that was the second and most blatant one. I think a couple plays earlier Odom or World Peace (lol) was ejected for committing a foul that the refs decided was too hard. Then Bynum came back and basically said: “That’s not a flagrant foul. THIS is a flagrant foul.”
But I think it was Odom that was the flagrant. Just kind of interesting that they’ll be teammates now.

Ron/Meta is probably amnestied

I think all along the Lakers would’ve needed to amnesty Ron Ron in order to absorb Turkoglu just like Nets will need to amnesty Outlaw to do something similar. I suppose it comes down to whether Orlando likes Lopez or Bynum better.

Personally, I’d take the Nets’ package, but with Otis Smith one can only wonder.

by pendulum55 on Dec 11, 2011 3:03 AM EST up reply actions

They can amnesty whomever they want after moving Odom

Including Kobe and his $25 million, they’re still over the cap and have to do something really creative to make a swap possible. Either that or Otis Smith’s going to look in the mirror and remember he’s Otis Smith and just keep Hedo.

He was torn on whether he was going to report to camp

They almost had to trade him. Plus he kinda sucks. I’m sure some team out there would’ve given them more, considering he doesn’t much left on his deal, but he’s such a pain in the ass every time his name comes up in trade rumors (remember the JO rumors?) that they probably just said “f*ck it…ship him off for nothing.”
