The "King of the Castle" matchup between the Knox Indy Pro Am All-Stars and Mario Chalmers' Rio All-Star team involving several NBA players has been officially canceled. The game was slated for Sunday afternoon at historic Chrysler Fieldhouse in New Castle, Indiana.
From the Knox Indy Pro Am press release:
Due to the uncertainty of the outcome of today's meeting in New York City, many of the professional players scheduled to participate in tomorrow's (Sunday, Nov. 6) "King of the Castle" match-up in New Castle, IN were advised to prepare for the NBA and NBPA reaching an agreement; leading to today's cancellation.
Carlos Knox and Mario Chalmers, organizers of the charity game, issued the following statement:
"We hate that we have had to cancel the game and disappoint so many Indiana basketball fans. It is our hope that we will be able to find a way to show our appreciation to Mike Bergum, New Castle Chrysler High School, and the City of New Castle, IN for their support and hospitality"
I love the part about NBA players being "advised to prepare for the NBA and NBPA reaching an agreement," but I have to wonder if they were having issues getting players to show up in New Castle. Any NBA player should be focusing on what is going on in New York this weekend, if not in NYC directly involved in the proceedings.
Hopefully Chrysler Fieldhouse will host an incredible NBA all-star event next summer after a spectacular, albeit shortened, NBA season.
