JOB's PT Distribution

As per JOB, this is what I see as the playing time distribution to be for the beginning of this year.  Obviously, with time, players will either earn or lose minutes depending on how they perform.

C: Roy Hibbert - 30  /  Jeff Foster - 18  /  Solomon Jones - 0

PF: Troy Murphy - 30  /  Tyler Hansbrough - 15  /  Josh McRoberts - 3  /  Magnum Rolle - 0

SF: Danny Granger - 35  /  Paul George - 13

SG: Brandon Rush - 22  /  Dahntay Jones - 17  /  Paul George - 9

PG: T.J. Ford - 25  /  Lance Stephenson - 20  /  A..J. Price - 3

Do you think this is a realistic break-down of how PT will play out?  How would you divide the playing time, if you were the coach? (notice I didn't say JOB)

I think Dun

will play a lot this year. JOB loves that dude. If I were coach, and all the expiring guys are still here at the start of the year, I would play them a lot until the All-Star break to increase their trade value, then dump’em and then let the youngs COMPLETELY take over.

I'd be okay with this however

I think it is a rosey outlook on how we want things to play out. I AJ getting more minutes, Roy getting less, and Dun getting a lot.

If it were me

Before the trade deadline…
PG-Ford: 35/Price: 10/Stephenson: 3
SG-Dunleavy: 28/Jones: 15/Rush: 7
SF-Granger: 30/George: 15/ Rush 3
PF-Murphy: 27/Hansbrough 15/Granger: 3/Rolle: 3
C-Hibbert: 30/Foster: 12/McRoberts: 6/Jones: 0

After the deadline assuming we can land a new PG and PF for, let’s say Murphy, Rush or Jones and Ford…
PG-New Guy: 30/Price: 15/Stephenson: 3
SG-George: 25/Jones (or Rush): 13/Stephenson: 10/Dunleavy: 0
SF-Granger: 35/Dunleavy: 13
PF-New Guy: 30/Hansbrough: 15/Rolle: 3
C-HIbbert: 35/McRoberts: 10/Foster: 3

I really like millertimes time alottment.

Does noone think Solo willl be a good back up after foster leaves, is he salvageable? I would like to see Rolle get some time here and there. I think miller hit it just about perfect though. Let’s hope that’s how its seen by the powers that be.

Move Troy up to get some minutes at center for Jim O’Brien and move Danny up to play power forward too. He loves his small ball. Ha remember when Phil Jackson thought it was a joke that he played Troy at center against Bynum and Gasol? Ha…. classic…. idiot.

No Play List

If the entire roster is healthy these players should only see garbage minutes because they would be taking time from better players during tight games.

McRoberts, D. Jones, S. Jones, Stephenson, Rolle

I’d take Stephenson off this list.

Dahntay Jones is anything but garbage. I think Jim O’Brien has gotten to your head. I don’t care that he can’t hit the three, the guy can ball and puts in a ton of effort.

super crazy idea...

Dahntay Jones running the point sometimes…. did you guys see how many times he made the top 10 pacer plays… idk if im kidding or not, I think I am but something about it intrigues me..hmm

He did have 72 more assists last season than he had ever had before.

You can place some of that on improvement as a player, certainly, but I think some of that goes with him understanding the system very well. You’d think JOB would like that but I guess the lack of 3 pt shooting gets you in the doghouse regardless if you’re a good basketball player or not. Seriously, the dude hates guys who can’t shoot it. He wouldn’t feed Hibbert, hates Ford, and hates Jones too. In all seriousness, though he probably doesn’t have the court vision or handles for playing the point. I just feel like Jones got a raw deal last year because of JOB.

I'd like to see thae pacers quit jackin up so many 3's

somebody made a joke on a coaches post put lil while back about bobby knight as a coach for us, but maybe we need a college coach or someone like that who says you’d better pass the ball 3-5 times before you shoot or im gna bitch slap you. I mean seriously thats been a problem for a while going back to stephen jackson jackin em up instead of taking it to the hoop or feeding the post. We can score in high volume, we need to score more efficiently, develop a mid range play set and for goodness sake can we play an ounce of defense plz?

by Justin Arnold on Aug 8, 2010 12:13 AM EDT up reply actions

It confusing to me

because JOB always says that the Pacers need a pass first point guard but he wouldnt want to use Jones at point because he cant hit the three very well. JOB really cant have it both ways. Which is it a PG who can shoot really good or pass really good??? I just think JOB is awful and I hope he give the young guys way more Playing time than he did last season. I think hes gonna have to considering the roster is like half young guys now.

by supercolts on Aug 8, 2010 1:10 AM EDT up reply actions

Yeah...

Not a very good chance that you can find a point guard that does both well. I guess Nash, Paul, Williams, Rose, and Wall are guys that can do both. If you can believe it it seems he is being told to play the younger guys now by the FO, but I’ll believe it when the season starts. Oh and just because I can I’ll say that Wall will be a better player than Rose.

You and every other fan. Too bad JOB and management can’t understand that.

Replay fail. I meant that for Justin Arnold.

by Sparhawk on Aug 8, 2010 9:16 PM EDT up reply actions

Rather he play than Rush at this point.

He plays the defense just as well (if not better) and actually scored more than Rush who has a much better offensive skill set. His percentages are better, outside 3 pt shooting. He had more assists. He put together a better effort overall.
