Rent Jamal Crawford?
Crawford wants to be traded if not extended
He's got one year remaining on his deal, at $10.8 million. He's 30 years old, coming off an 18/3/2.5 year as an Atlanta "supersub" type role. I have admittedly limited knowledge of Crawford, but he's always struck me as a large (6'5) combo guard (7 out of 10 years averaging over 4 dimes a night).Jamal Crawford has told the Hawks he wants to be traded before the 2010-11 season if the team doesn’t offer a contract extension to his liking, according to a person with knowledge of the situation.
I wouldn't give up the farm for Crawford, especially at 30 years old. We're obviously a young team and have no interest in signing guys on the wrong side of 30 for the long term. HOWEVA, I do think he could help push us back into the playoffs, something I think our franchise is in desperate need of to stave off the aura of irrelevancy.
Usually this is where I'd offer up some kind of trade proposal, but I really can't find one. The realistic scenarios I went through between just us and Atlanta did nothing but add to our team that's seemingly full of wings. Perhaps if we could get another team or two involved?
What say you Pacer Nation, any interest?

Meh.
No interest from me. Takes some questionable shots and I fear what would happen in a JOB system where he could shoot all day long. He probably wants to get overpaid too.

Valid
He certainly isn’t gun shy, but I think him coming off the bench (and shooting his best FG% ever) may show he’s matured and sort of “realized what he is.”
I just want to be clear, Crawford’s not a guy I think we should chase hard or anything like that, just a recently available guy that I think could help, interested in what everyone thinks.
٩(͡๏̯͡๏)۶ The sky is falling!
Definitely a volume shooter
I agree with infinty. He would “thrive” in a JOB offense. But “thrive” would mean something different to JOB and Crawford than it would to the rest of us. He would successfully chuck up constant 30-footers and JOB would love it. Meanwhile, the rest of the league would just laugh at us.
But, obtaining Crawford could be a win-win. We could ship off Ford and Rush, which would work financially and may be addition-by-subtraction. Then we’d have a roster spot to sign Rolle and Amundson (assuming they also cut Stephenson…it would be a roster spot for just Rolle if they kept Stephenson). We’d “upgrade” at SG (at least to JOB). Crawford’s volume-shooting may then be enough to get JOB fired, but the team would probably be fun to watch in the meantime. Worst case scenario, he and JOB leave next year with nothing to show for the experiment here. Best case, he likes Indy, and the Pacers hire a real coach who can reign him in somehow (Mike Woodson still looking for work?).
"You're hitting the wrong person. Don't you know you're hitting Ron Artest?"
Come visit The Fantasy Ninjas. We'd love to hear from you.
He was actually pretty damn good last year… his shoot percentage shot up to a passable level.
Unfortunately, it looks like an outlier when comparing his other years. I mean his per shot up 3 points last year. Either Woodson controlled him or he just had a year.
Then again, this is a contract year… he may have another one of those. And of course he wants an extension… after the lockout players like him might not make so much…
But, anyway, I am not much of a fan of renting players but I kind of like Lukes idea. Gets rid of 2 problems in one AND his contract may be able to used at the deadline to a team that is contending but needs a scoring punch off the bench.
I dont think i would have interest in crawford
the pacers need a PF they are loaded at the sg spot and with collison running the point I dont think this is an area of need as much as a PF spot. plus the pacers need to find a way to get rolle on the roster
