In evaluating the current Pacer team and their needs to be ready for training camp, I would love to see this final trade (3 teams) made for the summer:
Pacers send TJ Ford, S. Jones and if necessary, trade exception from the Murphy trade to Charlotte.
Charlotte then sends Dampier to Atlanta.
Atlanta then sends Josh Smith to Indiana.
Why this works? Charlotte receives a PG (Ford) and a Center (Jones) for Dampier instead of just losing him by cutting his non-guaranteed contract. Atlanta can then cut Dampier to save them money to help them sign their own coveted fre agents for next summer. Indiana gets an all-star PF in Josh Smith while moving the expiring contract of Ford and Jones. The Pacers also free up a roster spot to sign Magnum Rolle.
Pacers starting five:
SG- Dunleavey/ D. Jones/ or Rush
PF- J. Smith
Thus leaving a deep bench in Price, Stevenson, George, McRoberts, Hansbrough, Rolle, and Foster. All I can say is WOW. I believe this team can compete with anyone in the league. This would be enough to make me rush out for season tickets. According to this ESPN Trade machine this trade does work.
