Is It Finally Time to Shine?

The Indiana Pacers finally made a big move in the off-season other than in the NBA Draft. They traded away Troy Murphy, who went to the New Jersey Nets. This went along in a four-team, five-player trade. I think Indy benefited the most, getting the needs that deeply needed to have.

Obviously, they finally got the point guard they badly wanted in Darren Collison. Collison striven as a rookie last season when filling in for the injured Chris Paul. He will be the point guard of the future and can create points and some other great breaking plays.

Indy also got James Posey, who is a solid three-point shooter and can really bring some clutchness to the Pacers and that energy they need off the bench. With Posey, Indy is stacked at the small forward position with Danny Granger, Paul George, Posey, and Mike Dunleavy.

With everything done and all, the Pacers are set to go for the 2010-11 season which begins in late-October. Their season-opener will be against the San Antonio Spurs. I finally feel confident against a contending team like them. If Indy could beat them last season, they can sure beat them this season by a comfortable margin. It's finally their time to shine.

Entering the new season, their depth chart will be nice, full, and ready to go:

PG: Darren Collison/Lance Stephenson/T.J. Ford/A.J. Price

SG: Dahntay Jones/Brandon Rush

SF: Danny Granger/Paul George/James Posey/Mike Dunleavy

PF: Tyler Hansbrough/Josh McRoberts/Magnum Rolle

C: Roy Hibbert/Jeff Foster/Solomon Jones

Now obviously if you count all that up in the depth chart, it equals 16 players. Indy will have to at least cut one of those guys or trade them. I'll let you decide on which player that would be.

Indy finally has everything that all the bloggers, journalists, etc. said they needed. Everything is pretty solid at each position. I really think Indy can contend for the eighth or seventh seed. I like their chances at the playoffs now, finally. I am more confident than I have ever been for the past couple of seasons for the Pacers.

Even if they don't make the playoffs this year, there is a guaranteed spot in my mind for them in the playoffs for the 2011-12 season. But I can't wait too long. This has to be the year.

It's finally the time for the Indiana Pacers to shine.

We are thiiiiiiiiiiiin up front.

2 second round picks (rolle, mcroberts)

Hans who we don’t know can walk a straight line yet

Foster will get hurt

please oh please let their be another deal. I don’t want danny at the 4 all year

Can Posey still play the 2 or has he gotten old and creaky? and does anyone know if George can?

I think Indy will try out Tyler at power forward this season. If things don’t go well, I expect something at the trade deadline or somewhere in the 2011 free agency where indy is likely to have tons of cap space.

foster will get traded in my mind.

i think danny will play the 3 all year. I think Posey will probably just stay at 3 while George plays SG and SF.

Boom baby

The thing is does anyone even know if Tyler can play basketball yet with his vertigo issues? and will these issues be long term?

Posey's more of a 3 and was always a little big to play the 2

but apparently, Larry’s still gunning for a trade to aid the frontcourt depth so I’m optimistic about finding somebody.

Nice

I know they don’t contribute to the win/loss column, but the Pacers uniforms are first class (especially the home unis). I hope they don’t have any plans to change them for a while.

How can you not be excited about Collison? This kid has his head on straight (he even mentioned the importance of character when building a team in his presser). Watching him grow along with Granger, Hibbert and Co. is going to be a lot of fun.

Yeah...

Because no would have thought of saying anything about the importance of character given recent events. Man, I bet those guys that write this stuff up are so impressed with themselves.

Yeah

Maybe it is just lip service, I don’t know, but Collison hasn’t done anything in college or his short NBA career so far to make me think he doesn’t believe what he’s saying.

I think George will play more 2 than 3

so i would put him above D.Jones and I would have Rush starting the season out and if he is the old Rush with no Offense then he should be a sub but from what Collison said about Rush I have a feeling Rush will be a different Rush than what the Pacers have seen. I have a feeling Collison knows what Rush is capable of and is going to distibute the ball a way that the Pacers havent seen before. THerefore I have the SG spot as Rush/D.jones until George gets comfortable then George will be second off the bench. Collison also said he is excited the most about Hibbert in his chat on pacers.com so I have a feeling that hibbert will have his breakout year.

Im also a believer that

Posey is not only just a fill in on that trade but he is going to be a huge difference maker out there. his defense and leadership is going to set the tone and i think give the Pacers a toughness that has been missing. Posey with Hansbrough is going to be a mean combo that will be very fun to watch

BANGERS!

Collison was a massive coup no doubt, and one we can probably take great confidence in going into the future, but we need size up front. There is no way we should depend on Hands-bro, plus Hibbert and Granger need relief! Give me some bangers ala the Davis brothers!!! Please!!! With some size down low, and promising development from George, we’re some solid role players away from contending. Lots of things need to fall in place though, so don’t get TOO excited about this year yet!!
