2010 Summer Game Thread #4: Indiana Pacers vs. Boston Celtics

Forget LeBron James talking, the real action today is at the Orlando Summer League!

It's Day 4 so the Indiana Pacers have a quick turnaround after last night's game when they tip off against the Boston Celtics at 3:00PM today. Former Andrean High and Notre Dame biggin' Luke Harangody has been playing a lot and playing well for the Celtics down in Orlando averaging 16.3 points and 6.3 rebounds in the first three games.

The real job will keep me from watching this one live so if you have a chance let me know your thoughts and observations in the comments.

Rosters after the jump.

Glad there's no late game tonight

NBA TV seems to be starting LeBronageddon at 8:30.

Also looks like a Summer League MVP showdown between Stephenson and Harangody.

McBobs coming off the bench today

Seemed to have gotten enough work done. Koch getting the start.

by Nathan S. on Jul 8, 2010 3:03 PM EDT reply actions

Speaking of the Celtics

Our good buddy J.O. signed for the mid-level. Thanks, ESPN text alerts. You’ve been pissing me off way too much lately.

by Nathan S. on Jul 8, 2010 3:04 PM EDT reply actions

Pacers popping threes

Stephenson and George with misses.

by Nathan S. on Jul 8, 2010 3:05 PM EDT reply actions

Marcus Williams puts the Pacers on the board

Smooth jumper. Harangody just got a beautiful turn around. Phew.

by Nathan S. on Jul 8, 2010 3:06 PM EDT reply actions

Celtics look cohesive

Pacers lack direction. Wonder if McRoberts’s leadership was that important to them.

by Nathan S. on Jul 8, 2010 3:07 PM EDT reply actions

Nice work from George

To find Rolle.

Whoa, ugly free throw attempt. Front iron getting plenty of work, though I’m not entirely sure that even hit rim.

by Nathan S. on Jul 8, 2010 3:10 PM EDT reply actions

Too flashy, Lance

Rolle wasn’t even in a good position to catch that one.

by Nathan S. on Jul 8, 2010 3:15 PM EDT reply actions

Koch airs a three point attempt

Wide right. Don’t need to be reminded of that.

by Nathan S. on Jul 8, 2010 3:16 PM EDT reply actions

Bad defensive effort as Harangody drills a wide open three

Harangody sets the pick. Koch switches his man even though George doesn’t. Hmm.

by Nathan S. on Jul 8, 2010 3:17 PM EDT reply actions

Team 0-5 from deep

Harangody about 110-110. Monster stuff.

by Nathan S. on Jul 8, 2010 3:19 PM EDT reply actions

Heurtel

Leaning jumper extravaganza. Gets to the line though.

by Nathan S. on Jul 8, 2010 3:22 PM EDT reply actions

Stephenson hurt again

Ran into Krastov, bumped knees, his thigh hurting, limping roughly off the floor, but it didn’t look all too seriously. Hopefully he can get back on the floor.

by Nathan S. on Jul 8, 2010 3:26 PM EDT reply actions

Thanks for the updates. I’m able to peek in while at work. Wish this game was on tonight so I could watch.

by Sparhawk on Jul 8, 2010 3:27 PM EDT up reply actions

Krastov

Didn’t dribble once as he banged his way down low. Awesome. George driving to get to the line. That’s what we need him to be doing while he figures his offensive game out.

by Nathan S. on Jul 8, 2010 3:26 PM EDT reply actions

End of 1

30-15 Celtics. Pacers not giving me much to talk about, I’m afraid. They look tired and are just getting beaten on both ends.

by Nathan S. on Jul 8, 2010 3:28 PM EDT reply actions

"We've seen some... ...good...basketball from both sides."

Clearly that’s a lie if you have to pause for that long, haha.

by Nathan S. on Jul 8, 2010 3:30 PM EDT reply actions

Solid jumper from Rolle

Fights hard for the board on the other end. No doubt in my mind Magnum is on the team. It’ll be surprising if he isn’t.

by Nathan S. on Jul 8, 2010 3:31 PM EDT reply actions

Watkins three turnovers

Pacers seven.

Credit to Watkins for knowing what the Pacers do.

by Nathan S. on Jul 8, 2010 3:31 PM EDT reply actions

Too much watching on the defensive end

Lots of fundamentals, not a lot of action. Let’s see if Kramer can help out there.

by Nathan S. on Jul 8, 2010 3:33 PM EDT reply actions

Magnum P.F. knocks down the short J

Dude’s impressed me a lot for a 52nd pick or whatever he was. I’d take him over Solo.

Hey, 3 year plan y'know

by IndyPacers on Jul 8, 2010 3:35 PM EDT reply actions

Magnum.

4-5, showing some offense.

by Nathan S. on Jul 8, 2010 3:36 PM EDT reply actions

Another Pacers three left short

Another Celtics three goes. No wonder the Celtics are up 20.

by Nathan S. on Jul 8, 2010 3:40 PM EDT reply actions

Robinson in for Heurtel

Still no Lance.

And yet another George three left short. I have a bad feeling about his playing time this year if those shots don’t start falling.

by Nathan S. on Jul 8, 2010 3:41 PM EDT reply actions

Sims gets the tough tough shot to fall for Boston

George played solid defense on that one, just better offense.

by Nathan S. on Jul 8, 2010 3:44 PM EDT reply actions

Team has 25 points

Nearing half. This is a troubling sign without the offensive abilities of Lance and Bob. Thankfully, George getting to the line and living up to that percentage.

by Nathan S. on Jul 8, 2010 3:47 PM EDT reply actions

Paul george loses the ball once again

by pacers4life on Jul 8, 2010 3:48 PM EDT reply actions

I can certainly understand why he "only" averaged 16.8

He’s got a lot of work to do to become a quality offensive player.

by Nathan S. on Jul 8, 2010 3:49 PM EDT up reply actions

including his ball handling

by pacers4life on Jul 8, 2010 3:50 PM EDT up reply actions

Yup

The whole package needs work.

by Nathan S. on Jul 8, 2010 3:50 PM EDT up reply actions

he’s lost the ball a couple of times this quarter

by pacers4life on Jul 8, 2010 3:50 PM EDT up reply actions

Where's Marcus Williams at anyway?

A big scorer last year in the D-League, showing absolutely nothing when the team needs some points.

by Nathan S. on Jul 8, 2010 3:53 PM EDT reply actions

he’s not really aggresive, same with everybody on this team. paul george looked to be pretty aggressive in this game but it didn’t really work out for him. we just need some direction, we look lost out there, especially on the defensive end

by pacers4life on Jul 8, 2010 3:55 PM EDT up reply actions

Halftime, 58-31

Ugly game. We have to watch another half? Team is lost, absolutely lost, without Stephenson and McRoberts.

by Nathan S. on Jul 8, 2010 3:55 PM EDT reply actions

Whats the chances of paul george even getting to play a game in this upcoming season? I’d say no chance, if he’s having this much trouble against people in the summer league, i’m not sure. we should just sit him down on the bench and work him out in practice to get his game on track. maybe even send him to the d-league

by pacers4life on Jul 8, 2010 3:58 PM EDT reply actions

Still plenty of time before the year starts

No clue how the wing situation even looks by then. Will need to see lots of work though.

by Nathan S. on Jul 8, 2010 4:08 PM EDT up reply actions

Sweet update guys

Sounds pretty painful. That 8AM tip tomorrow ought to be a beauty.

by Tom Lewis on Jul 8, 2010 4:00 PM EDT reply actions

WTF?

that’s crazy right there.

by Sparhawk on Jul 8, 2010 4:02 PM EDT up reply actions

lance stephenson still sitting out @ the start of the 3rd quarter

by pacers4life on Jul 8, 2010 4:05 PM EDT reply actions

Gets his own rebound

Heurtel wastes it by taking a three.

by Nathan S. on Jul 8, 2010 4:12 PM EDT reply actions

Marcus gets a three to fall

Not entirely sure, but I think that was the first all game.

by Nathan S. on Jul 8, 2010 4:13 PM EDT reply actions

That dude loves to get his shot.

by Sparhawk on Jul 8, 2010 4:14 PM EDT up reply actions

If Koch shoots the ball again

I may revoke his basketball license.

by Nathan S. on Jul 8, 2010 4:18 PM EDT reply actions

Sorry guys but

Paul George sucks.

Im out, peace!

by pacers4life on Jul 8, 2010 4:19 PM EDT reply actions

Landry

Overshot that three by abuot ten feet. No sense of depth there.

by Nathan S. on Jul 8, 2010 4:25 PM EDT reply actions

Pacers forcing turnovers in this third quarter

Unfortunately, when you have the offensive capacity of the 2009-10 Indiana Pacers, these things do you little good. But it has been trimmed to 19.

by Nathan S. on Jul 8, 2010 4:26 PM EDT reply actions

High energy Pacers

Trying to stay alive in this one. Down 13.

by Nathan S. on Jul 8, 2010 4:31 PM EDT reply actions

High pressure defense

Gives Landry an easy dunk. 11-0 run.

by Nathan S. on Jul 8, 2010 4:32 PM EDT reply actions

Celtics finally looking frustrated

Pacers need to get some points with this unit while they’ve got the momentum. Taylor cuts it to 10.

by Nathan S. on Jul 8, 2010 4:33 PM EDT reply actions

Great ball movement!

Shame the end result was a no call.

by Nathan S. on Jul 8, 2010 4:34 PM EDT reply actions

Figures

Team gets some positives going, and start settling for threes. Little brother much like the big one.

by Nathan S. on Jul 8, 2010 4:35 PM EDT reply actions

George

1-10. Really off today. Nothing’s falling. Fatigue?

by Nathan S. on Jul 8, 2010 4:41 PM EDT reply actions

Rolle called for the elbow

Shows the ref what an elbow is, haha. Quick apology on the inadvertent whack to the head.

by Nathan S. on Jul 8, 2010 4:41 PM EDT reply actions

You know it's a rough day

When you force in for an easy shot and get a bad roll on the and one. Hitting his free throws though. 6-6.

by Nathan S. on Jul 8, 2010 4:43 PM EDT reply actions

Oohh

George with a baseline steal and jam! 78-74.

by Nathan S. on Jul 8, 2010 4:45 PM EDT reply actions

Late whistle

Bad whistle. Celtics at the line.

by Nathan S. on Jul 8, 2010 4:46 PM EDT reply actions

Misses both

Ball dont’ lie. But Harangody takes the board to lead to a Celtics bucket.

by Nathan S. on Jul 8, 2010 4:46 PM EDT reply actions

Rolle

at the line, hopefully can hit both.

by Nathan S. on Jul 8, 2010 4:49 PM EDT reply actions

Misses one

15 and 10 are the numbers right now. Hustle!

by Nathan S. on Jul 8, 2010 4:51 PM EDT reply actions

Oh my!

Monster board for Rolle on BOTH ends to get a tough two.

by Nathan S. on Jul 8, 2010 4:51 PM EDT reply actions

Rolle keeping the Pacers in this one at the end

Big transition jumper, 19 points for Rolle. I’m pleased with this kind of offensive showcase. I wasn’t a big fan of his offense this week, but he’s stepping up when the team needs him. Glad someone is.

by Nathan S. on Jul 8, 2010 4:54 PM EDT reply actions

George redemption!

Big steal. 8.7 to go, two point game. Final play. If this were the regular season, Obie would take out Rolle (best player) and draw up a three pointer for George. I expect a three pointer drawn up for George regardless.

by Nathan S. on Jul 8, 2010 4:58 PM EDT reply actions

Call to George

Drives it baseline…lays it up…GOOD. AND the foul! Who would you rather have at the line right now?

by Nathan S. on Jul 8, 2010 4:59 PM EDT reply actions

Rattles in

Pacers win! Paul George caps the incredible 27-point comeback!

by Nathan S. on Jul 8, 2010 5:00 PM EDT reply actions

86-85 Pacers win

Glad to see our guy bring it home when it counted.

by Nathan S. on Jul 8, 2010 5:00 PM EDT reply actions

and without Stephenson too, right?

by Sparhawk on Jul 8, 2010 5:00 PM EDT reply actions

final play from paul george

Fantastic final play by paul george, also Magnum Rolle was fantastic at the end. Back from 19 points in the end of the third quarter

by fontes on Jul 8, 2010 5:02 PM EDT reply actions

Ahh

The time before JOB ruins all these players is wonderful.

by infinityzero.systemerror on Jul 8, 2010 5:05 PM EDT reply actions

Holy smokes

I thought this game was long over. Sounds like it will be worth watching after all.

by Tom Lewis on Jul 8, 2010 5:13 PM EDT reply actions

rookies show mettle

even though george was struggling all day, he had the confidence to step up when it counted. i like this. rolle better make the team

by WesleyY on Jul 8, 2010 5:16 PM EDT reply actions

WHAT A GAME!!!

Ok at first the game was way boring…but then i decided to give the fourth qtr a chance just cause…and then I witness A great deficit get flipped and it gets turned into a Win…I know its just summer league but that made my day.

and i totally agree with you wesleyY who ever is coaching that summer league team should be considered for a bigger role.

by Pacersfan33 on Jul 8, 2010 5:34 PM EDT reply actions

Haha

JOB outdone by his assistant again. Guess that means he’s gonna be fired.
