2010 Summer Game Thread #3: Indiana Pacers vs. Utah Jazz
Like yesterday, the Summer Pacers will close out Day 3 of action from the Orlando Summer League when they take on Gordon Hayward and the Summer Jazz at 7:00PM.
This game should be a test of intestinal fortitude for the young players on both teams as they play their third game in three days with two more remaining. In fact, since the Pacers play at 8:00AM on Friday morning, this will be the start of three games in roughly 36 hours. Time to see who is up for finishing strong. Hopefully the Pacers will coerce a few more perimeter shots through the rim tonight.
Leave your thoughts and observations in the comments. Rosters after the jump and note that Thomas Heurtel was wearing number 51 yesterday, not 7.

Keys to the Game:
-Paul needs to be more aggressive tonight. 90% Free Throw shooter needs to get to the line.
-Lance needs to attempt at least 1 3-point shot to give JOB a boner.
-All players need to hit their shots when Lance passes them the ball and they are wide open to shoot.
I was so close to saying he needs to attempt 15 today, but I didn’t have the heart to do it. It would depress me.
On the bright side, I get to watch Gordon Hayward tonight.
Solid over/under
Have to consider whether he’ll get tossed out of the game, also. I’ll take the over especially if he makes one or two early. Apparently that’s why he went to Orlando, to shot 3-balls.
Over
He’s going big tonight to try to make up for yesterday’s performance. I’ll be surprised if he launches less than 13 3’s tonight.
Game 1 Stephenson, Game 2 George.....
Is Game 3 Magnum Rolle’s turn? So far, so good!
Might have been goaltending, but...
Jeeeezzz does Rolle get up!!
Funny
how Dennis Scott has apparently not seen McBobs play since college. Shocked a the three attempt and athleticism?
McBobs
Already looks like a completely different player than yesterday. Didn’t have this much energy last night.
Friday’s 8 a.m. start should be interesting

he seemed to have a bad attitude yesterday

is Born Ready getting assists on those shots?
wish i could watch the game
Under is looking good for McRoberts from behind the arc
Only one 3 attempt and he’s having a much more efficient game so far.
Wonder how much of that is coaching staff or McBobs looking at his own game from yesterday

NBA.com
Can someone explain to me why I spent $15 to watch the summer league games if the NBA.com broadband link is going to go down and/or be consistently lagging on a high speed connection?
Good news on salay cap
About $2 million higher than anticipated with a luxury tax threshold of $70.3 million.
that wasn’t in the post, but, nice to see he can hit the 18 footer

yea but you see he has the ability to score, they should keep feeding him the ball and experimenting
Rolle on D
He’s been covering 7’ 1", 265 lb Koufos a good bit.
Not to be a downer, but paul george really seems to struggle with his ball handling and getting past his defender, which is crucial to getting your own shot. i like him on defense though…at best i think he’ll be at trevor arizas level which isn’t that bad….He has all the talent in the world though.
It most certainly will develop(if his work ethic he’s promised us is true) but in order to do that he needs a more consistant shot, needs to learn how to shoot off balance, and needs to get better at ball handling. You notice how his shot is sort of a set shot where he has to get his feet set, so fade-aways aren’t really his thing. Even when he is set, sometimes his shot is really inconsistant for some reason, but that’s just my opinion. It will improve, the question is, how much? Not a lot I think.
Funny
on his inconsistent shot in summer league even George was wondering what was going on based on his comments after the game last night. That’s his bread and butter. I still think he’s getting used to the physical demands the past week has put on his body.
I think he handles the ball better than Granger right now. I like Ariza but I think he should at least be a step above that. Who would that be?
by SpaceCowboy1984 on Jul 7, 2010 8:32 PM EDT up reply actions
Hard to say. Maybe Rudy gay? But I think him being like rudy gay is a long shot. I’d say more of a mix between ariza and travis outlaw. But do you really think his ball handling skills are better than grangers??? This is the summer league, and he’s having a hard time shaking up guys who might not even belong in the nba, and i remember back when danny was in the summer league, he got to the rim without even trying, and getting a lot of open shots.
You notice how he set his feet before he shot it, any other player in the nba would probably swat that away.
I seem to recall Granger using that move a lot, maybe Granger can help him improve it

McBobs
getting it done, much better than yesterday. I wonder who got in his ear about last nights “performance”
only 4 3-ball attempts for the whole team
Lot of hoops at the rim, tho. Little easier to score that way, no?
Has it been an honest inside effort
Or more of a “We’ll show you can we can play inside…” sort of deal?
I guess an honest effort
they’re just attacking especially McRoberts, he’s been going to work in the paint, drawing a lot of fouls
I can't believe I'm saying this, but...
McBobs has been a monster!
Yeah. I really like George’s defensive effort but his offensive game is going to take a few years to develop.
George’s offensive game definitely isn’t any worse than B Rush’s

Jazz getting a lot of second chances here
I assume it hasn’t been happening all night judging on the score, but Utah’s coming back, time to start working to get those boards.
What the
Did this run start when I called McBobs a monster? Never again…
you guys think because of stephensons size and strength that we should be posting him up a little more? The few times he’s posted up he’s really muscled his way into a basket down low…
After
All the praise Rolle has been getting from JOB and his Summer League performance so far, I think there is no doubt Rolle makes the team. The Pacers will make room for him via trade or cutting someone
Got a full 15 man roster right now
Assuming Head and Watson are gone. Gonna have to send away some guys to keep Rolle, unless we really want to head into the season with five F/Cs and one healthy PG.
I’d assume Solo will be an add-on to any trade, I don’t think the team wants to part ways with Rolle or McRoberts. Lot of work to do.
Stephenson
To his credit, playing like a ball hog, but also playing with the swagger of a closer. So I’m ultimately torn.
only bad thing about him tonight is 0 assists, and i also don’t know how he ended up with 19 points tonight, crazy. he is a scorer for sure
Seems he's gotten his points efficiently
He hasn’t taken a lot of unnecessary shots, so I’m not going to kill him for it. I don’t know how often he worked to set up teammates when running the point tonight though, but he set up McBobs for what seemed like at least ten of those three point attempts last night.
I just don’t know how. He’s playing well, but if we want him as a PG…he’s going to be a black hole PG.
Stephenson
I’m diggin’ the swagger. Love that confidence. Now, school is in session…time to learn some assist magic!!!
Pacers offense is apparently pretty tough to pick up
Wonder how much of that is having to shift your entire basketball philosophy away from high percentage shots and into low percentage threes.
good game by the Ps
each player (mcbob, george, and lance) took turns taking over the game.. but i gotta say, love how stephenson takes over in winning time.
