2010 Summer Game Thread #2: Indiana Pacers vs. New Jersey Nets
The summer versions of the Indiana Pacers and New Jersey Nets play tonight in the Orlando Summer League.
For the Pacers, all eyes remain fixed on the rookies as we see if Lance Stephenson can follow up his phenomenal debut with another solid effort against the Nets who will be able to throw a little more size on the 19-year-old rook trying to learn the point guard position. Gabe Pruett offers a little more size although isn't nearly as stout as Stephenson. However, Terrence Williams played plenty of PG for the Nets last night and checks is a little bigger than Born Ready. TWill should be a tough matchup at both ends, so hopefully he's matched up with Stephenson quite a bit to make things as challenging as possible.
It's summer league, remember? Time to go to school, if need be.
Paul George looked more comfortable late in the game yesterday so hopefully he'll bring that type of game from the opening tip.
Leave your thoughts and observations in the comments. I'll be watching this one late thanks to Little League practice so keep me posted. Rosters after the jump and note that Thomas Heurtel was wearing number 51 yesterday, not 7.

Shoulda, woulda, coulda had Jrue Holiday running the point tonight……. Get well Tyler!!
A nondescript
10-5, but made a lot of plays. Certainly wouldn’t mind that alternative to not seeing #50 on the floor.
Like the cutting George
No alley oop, but a nice lay in. Gets the hand on the ball on the other end. Like the hustle here.
Slow down Steve Smith!
I saw Paul George make a layup. Steve Smith saw Paul George look like Kevin Durant and George Gervin making a layup.

Now I know who McRoberts is always watching from the bench
He plays like Murphy in that all he does is stand outside and wait to launch a 3 when the team’s on offense
McRoberts
I bet he’s standing at the top of the key when they come back from commercial….
.....or sitting on the bench
Either place, he’s right a home

End of the first, Nets up 20-15
Stephenson getting injured every other play, George with some good plays, McBobs camping. A lot of nondescript going on from everyone else. At least everyone’s hustling.
Landry with the nice transition three
Not a fan of the transition three, but he hit it, so that’s fine.
Dork commentator
NBA TV couldn’t find anyone cooler to do their commentating than this goober? Someone needs to tell him to stop saying “y’all”.
You lost me when you said you actually listen to him

McBobs must be under strict orders to take every three he can so that JOB can evaluate his ability to become one of those coveted “stretch 4s.”
He said he wants him taking that shot
Clearly Josh is following orders to a T. I think he’s been within the three point line once this whole half. Got blocked.
Or maybe just the foul
Thought he was in action on that. Nevermind.
Josh takes an attempt inside the three for once. Misses it.
Marcus Williams drills the three
Looked like a bad defensive effort prior by George.
Lance goes coast to coast for the lay-in. No ill effects of those “injuries.”
Josh frustrated
Hanging away from his teammates as they all huddle after a bad rookie foul from George.
Pacers up 37-34 at the half
Lance didn’t get injured this quarter. Made a tremendous transition play at the end with George, just not enough time to finish.
Can't find one by looking around real quick
From what I can recall, I’ve got George with 6 points, Lance with 2 with 2 or 3 assists, Josh leading with 8 or 9 points on a 2-9 or 2-10 shooting (2-7 deep), a block, and a handful of boards. Rolle seems to have a couple of fouls.
Sorry that’s about as specific as I can get it. I can tell you the Fever are up 11-8 though…
McRoberts
2 – 9 from the field, 8 points. Him hitting 2 3-pointers early might be the worst thing that could’ve happened as AT LEAST 7 of those attempts are from behind the arc.
George
6 points, 2 boards, 2 assists, 3 steals, 3-8 shooting. I may have missed the boards and assists by one or so.
So...
Are they allowed to cut players during the game? McBob’s gotta go!! Seriously, the guy has 3 years experience under his belt and looks as lost as anyone out there.
It’s pretty bad when even the announcers are saying “jeez man, enough with the 3s”

Swear I'm not only looking at the guys we expect to be on the team
But aside from one or two plays from Heurtal, Marcus, and Watkins, the only guys worth mentioning are George, Lance, and McBobs. Magnum’s pretty quiet as well.
There we go!
George gets another steal, and gets it to Magnum for a monster jam! See ya Terrence Williams!
Who'd have thought?
A PF actually fitting in inside? Don’t tell Obie. Concerned by his lack of three point shooting in the past few minutes though…
hopefully george is in our starting lineup this season
i like what i see
End of three, Pacers trail 55-52
Paul George came to life in this quarter. Looked tremendous defensively. Josh looked angry, finally got some positives going when he went inside, finished it the only way he knows how: popping a three.
So it was Dennis Scott yesterday, and Steve Smith today
Also starring with Reggie in these Summer League commercials, wonder he’s going to be calling any games.
Heurtel doesn’t look to darn bad. He looks pretty smooth and comfortable running the offense, appears to have some skills at it and hasn’t really turned the ball over (other than his recent slip on the court).

Certainly will take quiet and smart
Over loud and bad. He doesn’t look too bad out there though. Certainly knows what he needs to be doing out there.
Rolle working the fouls
I’d say he should probably work on his free throw shooting, but this is not a free throw shooting game. Both teams abysmal from the line.
We can make fun of McBobs for taking so many three pointers
But we could be watching Damion Jones shooting 6-18.
Rolle finally cleans up the mess. Good work, Magnum!
Nets win 80-69
Some positives and negatives from the Pacers in game 2. See how the guys do tomorrow!

Hopefully the box score is up quickly.
Shocked Stephenson ended with 15, but he did come to life at the end offensively.
