2010 Summer Game Thread #1: Indiana Pacers vs. Orlando Magic
The Indiana Summer Pacers take on the Orlando Summer Magic at 3:00PM today in their first game at the Orlando Summer League.
Rookie draft picks Paul George, Lance Stephenson and Magnum Rolle have attracted most of the attention so far in camp and I certainly look forward to seeing how they play today, even though, and get used to this statement...it's just summer league.
Also looking forward to seeing French PG, Thomas Heurtel and of course Josh McRoberts. Don't forget Purdue's Chris Kramer will also be on the roster in Orlando. His time may be limited but at least he made it out of camp.
Here's the schedule for today's games in Orlando which tips off with Charlotte playing Utah including Butler's Gordon Hayward running with the Jazz.
| 1 p.m. | Charlotte | Utah |
| 3 p.m. | Indiana | Orlando |
| 5 p.m. | Boston | Oklahoma City |
| 7 p.m. | New Jersey | Philadelphia |
Please leave your thoughts and observations on the game in the comments. Also, after the jump is the full roster so you can match the names with the numbers. Not always easy to tell who's who in these summer league games.
A quick link of interest, David Thorpe works out lots of NBA players and offers his thoughts on summer camp at True Hoop.

Summer League Broadband
Against my better judgment, I paid the $15 for the Summer League Broadband. Watching the Charlotte/Utah game right now. On the plus side, the feed is really high quality. Compared to the awful feed from last year, this is a HUGE improvement. On the down side, no Dante and Gallante….
Really looking forward to seeing our rooks in action. I also expect McBobs to dominate. Should be fun.
Can't believe they're charging
but I’m glad to hear their offering some quality for the cost. Kamla can’t hold Dante & Galante’s jocks.
Hayward played about half of 1Q
Absorbed a dunk, just playing along at this point. Lost his man a couple of times defensively. of course…it’s just summer league.
Haha... he should just go to Europe.
Though they probably don’t want him either.

Game 1 in the books, Charlotte 85, Utah 83
Corner game-winner from Sundiata Gaines bounced. At least we avoided overtime.
Nice finish from Lance
Looked to make a play the whole way up the court, then took it to the rim to finish
IND up 17-14 end 1Q
Pretty ugly end to the quarter.
Stephenson and Rolle both have 6 points, Rolle drew 3 fouls on Daniel Orton but has 2 of his own. George has the 1 three and 2 turnovers.
Half: Pacers up 47-31
Lance: 11 pts, 2 asst 2 reb
McBobs: 10 pts, 2 rebs
George: 8 pts
Rolle: 6 pts, 3 fouls
Heurtel; 4 pts, 2 asst, 3 rebs
Stephenson is fine, fine, fine
Stephenson is showing us some hope for a good nba season, also Heurtel is all over the court, nice shoots. Mcroberts more athletic and is making very good improvements on three points shoot and goin thru the basket. What i see for now, i like it
Thoughts on Stephenson
Had a great first half.
Pluses – appears to have great vision, finishes well, seems reasonably quick, very aggressive to the rim.
Minuses – he looks a bit awkward running the point, too much behind the back dribbling, etc…, a couple defensive lapses.
All in all, I’m impressed. I’m not sure he is a point guard though. When I say he is awkward, I mean he looks a bit knock-knee-ed (sp?). He also plays very straight legged. As a result might be a bit slow laterally.
I love the aggressiveness though. He plays like he thinks he is the best player on the court. We could use a little swagger like that.
Looks like the Pacers
made a little adjustment, why I don’t know, but forcing Randle to deal with Stephenson in the post. Not sure JOB would do this.
McBobs mixes it up with Orton under the hoop
Josh appears a bit frustrated with his game, think he was ready to take it out on someone.
Nice pull up J from Heurtel on the break
Bryce Taylor knocks down a couple of shots.Pacer up 10 after lead was down to 3
Durant..
just posted on his twitter that Lance is killing it down there. Thats what I like to hear…STEAL OF THE DRAFT!!!
lance stephenson remind me a little of tyreke evans….not saying lance is at the same level but they both have similir body types, height, and can handle the ball well at the point guard position. if lance keeps it up he’ll be the starting pg for the pacers next season no doubt
Good point, had the same thought earlier
LS not quite the athlete, but his size can expose smaller PGs.
George just went 1 on the gym and drew a foul
Not a great play but nice to see some assertiveness out of the rook.
born ready
did he play any point in college? i think he is a player that needs the ball to be most effective, its surprising he hasn’t always played as a PG… i am beyond impressed with him, and its hard not to get over-excited about his possibilities. cool demeanor on the court, and insanely strong and quick.
I guess not
although he was supposed to be somewhat of a black hole at Cincy so he had the ball in his hands a lot. He’s been looking to pass a lot today. Probably dribbling too much but not always for his own shot.
George on post-game show
Admitted he was a little nervouse and tentative, looking forward to next game. Kamla mentioned George is dealing with a tender groin…aren’t we all.
lance
Awesome first showing from lance. Definitely future point guard material. That move he split the defense with and finished with the dunk was insane.
He just overwhelmed Randle at times with his size
Like to see him play some bigger PGs later this week. Regardless of position, kid can play.
The others
I thought Rolle also had flashes of a game. Has amazing hands for his size basically caught everything. Also impressive in defence – just putting hands up influenced shots.
Also the other point guard was not bad – better court vision than anyone on pacers- I think from France.
Mc Roberts was no defense all offence before ejected. More imposing than last year but I remember last summer league thinking the same thing.
Clearly stevenson was the best player – unbelievable he did not play point in college. Needs to improve defense though at PGat 6.5 should be no problem.
At some point he played the two – toward the end of the game – better defense but I thought less offence.
highlights?
Does anyone know if there will be highlights of the game? from what I am reading…I would love to see some highlights! hope the highlights are free at least.
Pacers Depth Chart, IMO
C: Hibbert/Foster
PF: Murphy/Rolle/McRoberts
SF: Granger/Dunleavy
SG: George/D. Jones/Rush
PG: Stephenson/Ford
I think Solo’s done as a Pacer.
solo or mcroberts
one has got to go, i really don’t care which one. rolle has so much more upside than either of them…
solo definately
I’m way to big of a mcroberts fan. He’s the hometown boy too. He’s got way more potential than solo.
one other thing
Josh is a pacer for life. I think he’d do anything for this team. Last season he was always up on the bench rooting the team on. Solo just sat there and moped because he wasn’t in. Josh is showing how much he wants to stay by participating in summer league. We need people who want to be here as much as they are talented.
