Coach of the future
Who is our coach of the Future? I'm sure most of us agree JOB is not the long term answer.
So who is?
I'd love to get Larry Brown back, but obviously thats probably not gonna happen.
So who then?
Cleveland's old coach maybe? An up and coming Asst., but that seems like a work in progress type of thing? College coach? Kelvin Sampson, Pitino, Calipari? Or is there an obvious answer?
Maybe, just Maybe. Mark Jackson or Reggie Miller? I don't know, what do you think? Who is gonna be the leader that brings this team to the level we need to be? Obiously it's not gonna be till JOBs contracts up so how about Van Gundy?
Love to hear your ideas. Heres to hoping.

Was hoping Lester Conner around February
But obviously that ain’t happenin. I’d welcome Jeff Van Gundy, but he’s turned down better offers already. Chances are it’d have to be a current ass’t, and I’m not too up on any. Maybe Lawrence Frank. Still a number of current head guys to be fired after next season as well.
It’s honestly pretty tough to say with how different the roster’s sure to be going into next season. If it’s a bunch of young guys you want one type of coach, if a lot of trades go down and there’s a lot of vets you want another.

Howzabout Carlisle again?
Not suggesting it, just asking for some thoughts. Bring Mike Brown back as an ass’t to teach the team to play defense.

I could dig it
Rookie head coach with a stellar assistant staff. Would be a lot like Bird’s stint, well, other than the roster being a lot worse.

come on
we know thats not gonna happen. i figure a smart guy like you might have a serious suggestion.

I want a coach with mono-colored hair and no bald spot.
Haha, how about Bruce Pearl and his sweet orange suit? Or Mike Davis? OH, I know let’s call back Isiah? Darrell Armstrong (is he still playing)? Charles Barkley (that’d be amusing)? Oh, let’s really reach and bring Red Auerbach back from the dead? Erick Spolestra (gotta figure Reilly will kick him out of that tasty position)? Nate McMillan (you think they’ll fire him if he doesn’t get them farther this year? He works for Portland by the way)? Wasn’t there another former pacer interviewing for jobs, Chuck Person, or something? Eddie Jordan? Lenny Wilkens (top 10 coach ever according to NBA.com)? How about Hubie Brown? Mike Fratello?

very nice.. but youre still a very funny guy
if they fire nate mc thatd be a good one. hey you never know. I don’t know if you meant to, but you might of just hit gold. Erick Spolestra. My money says Riley boots him half way through the season. That could be a very good pick up.

I meant to...
I’d actually prefer Nate, but Spolestra seems good too. He took a team that I felt was pretty light on talent and made them a pretty good team. It was Dwayne Wade and nothing last year, or it felt that way.

Bill Lambier? Not sure how good a coach he’d be in the NBA, but he’d bring a mental toughness to the team and focus on D. I bet he wouldn’t want to shoot 3’s all day.
Patrick Ewing? I know this guy has been working to be a head coach, but does anyone know how effective he’d be? He’d probably try to work through Hibbert, which sounds like a pretty good plan.
I love Mark Jackson, but at least Patrick Ewing is actually working to be a head coach. I honestly don’t like a person who only wants to be a head coach and not be an assistant for a few years. He could be good, but I’m not so sure. Though at this point, I’d take him over JOB any day!
I’d just rather see someone new and someone who will play our young guys and knows how to coach them to reach their potential. Find me that guy.
I hear Ewing's not articulate enough with the players to be an effective communicator
And that’s sad. Plus I hate him.
Mark Jackson would be a great coach I think, and the people of Indy would embrace him because he’d be like their basketball version of Tony Dungy, what with his religion and whatnot. Plus he was beloved when he was here. Really all a head coach has to do is motivate, as long as he has good assistants. Bring in Jack, Reggie Miller, some old defensive veteran assistant and make Ron Hunger an offer he couldn’t refuse…

Mike Woodson
- He’s already brought a crappy team from the trenches and made them play off worthy.
- He has Indiana ties
- If we hire him next year he might be able to help bring Al Horford here
Good points
A lot of people around the league talk about him like he’s a bad coach, but I think he got a bum rap in ATL. They blamed him for “overusing” Joe Johnson in the regular season and first round of the playoffs, when last year JJ averaged his lowest mpg total since he’s been an NBA starter, and it only went up by two mpg in the first round (and back to his normal career average). They were obviously just throwing someone under the bus for JJ’s epic choke job.

I agree with you LukeNukem. I live in Atlanta and he was fired unjustly. He did a terrific job and even got Josh Smith to stop shooting 3’s. JOB would think he’s our best 3 pt shooter that
really spreads the floor.
Sad thing is, I’m sure no one in Atlanta really cares or are even aware the the Hawks are a really good team.
Pacers would be lucky to get a coach like Woodson.
Kelvin Sampson??? HAHAHA thats gotta b a joke
i would like to see mark Jackson. I would of really wanted Byron Scott but thats not happening now that he is in cleveland. Reggie would be awesome choice but hes not coming here to coach. I like Lester conner he is a very good coach who knows how to adapt to his players obviously since he won those two games last season when JOB couldnt win. Maybe Sam Mitchell?? The Pacers liked him a few seasons ago before JOB.
I personally would like to see a up and comer coach a guy thats new to it like Jackson. SOmeone with fresh ideas and puts defense first and just doesnt talk the talk. Id like to see a guy come in who actually praises his players and takes responisbility and doesnt blame players for his shortcomings
JOB is just awful and I really tried to like him and thought he was going to be a good coach but his philosophy is terrible and cant win. its like he is a gimic coach and that wont get u anywhere.
