Granger, Gordon On Cut Line With Team USA
Team USA wrapped up their initial training camp last night with the USA Basketball Showcase. The team will be cut from 19 to 15 tomorrow and both Danny Granger and Eric Gordon are nestled right on the cut line.
John Schuhmann has been following the camp closely and made his best guess at the next round of cuts which have both Gordon and Granger likely heading home. Even if either makes the 15-man cut, it appears likely that neither will make the 12-man team unless an unfortunate injury opens up a spot.
Gordon made four threes and certainly looked worthy of making the team last night, but the numbers game is not in his favor. Granger made a three shortly after entering the game but didn't do anything extraordinary to stand out in the scrimmage.
Meanwhile, Kevin Durant was the MVP of the game and looked head and shoulders above everyone else on the court. His whole game is so smooth and strong from that long, lean frame. So much fun to watch.
Here are a couple more links with stories wrapping up the action in Las Vegas:
- John Schuhmann reports on Team USA leaving Vegas with an identity to build on for the World Championships.
- Chris Tomasson reports on the tough cuts waiting the coahces for Team USA today.

I'll call it right now.
Danny won’t make it. I hope it gives him the motivation he needs to keep improving going into the season.
Seems like they prefer Gay
I don’t really get it, Danny is a better offensive player I think. Although, he just never tries on defense, I do think he is capable… man I wish he would try. But yeah, he won’t make it.

Danny's versatility will help him
His ability to slide the 4, especially in the FIBA game, gives him a leg up on a lot of the guys I think. Coach K specifically mentioned they’re going to need guys who can play multiple positions. With the lack of good big men a guy whose multiple positions are the 3 and 4 is in pretty good shape. I’ll honestly be surprised if he gets cut.
٩(͡๏̯͡๏)۶ The sky is falling!
granger is not well respected
He is as good or even better than some of those players on that current squad and last year before the season began he was rank # 5 overall in the nba.
- L. James
- K. Bryant
- D. Wade
- C. Anthony
- D. Granger
- K. Durrant
Due to injury last season DG33 was slowed down a bit. From those top 6 above there are only 2 of them on this current roster of players. Granger only had like 5 shot attempts last night and clearly seen this is KD’s team.
Well, thats scoring wise.
If he would play defense with that offense of his, he could be a top 10 player probably. (I consider rebounding to be part of defense) Considering his size and skill set, I would think a 25/7/3 stat line is plausible. Someone needs to show him how much joy you can get out of playing defense. What better feeling could there be than frustrating the opposing teams best player, it sounds like tons of fun. I want to see Granger getting guys so frustrated that they starting throw punches, that’d be fun.

i agree
But wasn Granger the defensive stoper after Artest and those left when Dunlevy was the man
I feel like they said he could be better than Artest when he was a rookie.
But it seems that he gave up on the idea (JOB’s doing?). I think he has the physical tools to give all kinds of trouble for offensive players, its such a pity. I remember he used to block shots in his earlier years, I can’t recall seeing him do that much anymore. I want his offense with Artest defense, if he got that I wouldn’t even care about assist or rebounds much at all.

Meh. Granger not making the team could be a blessing in disguise.
Increased motivation, no injuries…
