USA Basketball Showcase Open Thread

Why not?

Since I'll be up watching the USA Basketball Showcase tonight I figured anyone else up watching Danny Granger play with Team USA could join me here to comment on the game and any other offseason topics. Also, former North Central and IU star, Eric Gordon will team up with Granger on the White team tonight.

For the Redeem Team in 2008, this game was an absolute blast. The talent level tonight won't compare but I imagine they'll show the same competitive spirit. The game will air on ESPN2 at 10:00PM. Here are the rosters:

Blue White
Chauncey Billups Tyson Chandler
Rudy Gay Stephen Curry
Jeff Green Kevin Durant
Brook Lopez Eric Gordon
Kevin Love Danny Granger
O.J. Mayo Andre Iguodala
JaVale McGee Lamar Odom
Rajon Rondo Derrick Rose
Russell Westbrook Gerald Wallace

Should be fun

Not how I intended to spend my Saturday night, but eh. There are worse ways I’m sure than watching these players.

Let’s go Danny!

Iguodala starting ahead of Granger on white team

Iggy one of a few players on bubble for roster with Granger.

Not too often

You see Odom play with this much hustle.

Nice drop from Durant

Man, he’s smoothing out all of the edges of his game.

I really miss

The Granger/Durant comparisons from 08-09.

Fast and furious

Gotta love the effort in this game. Not a thing of beauty at this point but much better than summer league.

Holy smokes

JOB must have his pants around his ankles watching all of these 3s.

McGee looking good

May help John Wall as much as Wall helps him.

Question

This might be a stupid question, but why is Durantula the only star playing?

by TravisBest on Jul 24, 2010 10:31 PM EDT reply actions

The whole olympic team bowed out

due to injuries/rest. Durant wants his gold in two years.

My word

Rose can’t take the ball and run.

I understand the concern about losing your entire team

For international competition, but Team USA’s replacements are a little better than the Hoosiers’ replacements.

I know the focus is team chemistry

But “Spain has seven players who have either played or been drafted into the NBA” doesn’t strike much fear from that standard considering twelve Team USA players will have “played or been drafted into the NBA.”

From John Schuhmann

In the first half, 39 percent of the shots were 3s. That’s a lot.

when Mcgee caught the ball I could see Danny waiting for him to go up soft

Hmmm

Didn’t realize FIBA was adjusting their rules in the direction of the NBA.

I am sorry I missed this open thread. I will be there the next time though! :D

White Team Has the Better Talent

It looks as if the White Team has the better talent..but I may be wrong. Should be interesting..Id say the Blue Team’s best player is Rondo..can be argued as differently not much tho.

And White Team best player…is the Future of the NBA..Kevin Durant!..if Durant and Rondo was on the same team..they’d be unstoppable.

Have a question though..how will they cut down the roster? Dont they only supposed to have a 12 or 13 men roster in World Basketball? Or am I wrong
